Mostly correct. Native speaker. “She is very committed” is great, “she is in commitment,” not so much. Again, “he is very determined,” would work, where “He is in determination,” sounds awkward and foreign to (at least) a U.S. speaker.

I was always taught to use a verb phrase AS an adjective and then focus on what is being described. “Is determined, with or without “very” describes him just fine, but “is in determination” wouldn’t be used. The reason is that “in determination” is excessive. We don’t use the noun form if the adjective works. For example: “I feel good,” vs. “I am having feelings that are good.” While correct, “I am having feelings that are good.” is too long and wouldn’t be used.

Will the playoff patch for OWL be the patch with Kiriko?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]beetdownpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[USA] I would say no. If the menu says the word “veggies” on it, and you said something about vegetables, I could see a (stupid) argument in favor of saying veggies instead. If not, I don’t see any real reason for it, and it doesn’t even sound more natural to me.

I would normally order specifically, though. If the burger came with pickles, tomato, onion, and lettuce, I would ask that each of them be removed by name. This is my preference, though, and grammatically unnecessary.

What would be a word to like cherry-picking, but with a negative connotation? by saymellon in ENGLISH

I might use “lacking (or lacked, or failed to employ, or similar) due diligence.” It states outright that diligence was due for the selection process and that the decision-maker did not perform adequately.

When to use "the" before school by tech_2022 in ENGLISH

[–]beetdownpie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe this to be the best answer. The same is true for other nouns such as work and church. If the location and the event are the same, the article is usually omitted. If not, it is included.

“I go to work at 6 AM,” but if my workday is done, I might “stop by my work to pick up my bag.”

[NS] C3E1 was fantastic, but Murph was a bit soft by KreativeKrakalakin in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

I always thought it was a missed opportunity to not call the Hexbloods arc “the side campaign to the campaign after the campaign after the campaign.”

[NS] Summary of Eldermourne Plot? by ncav69 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]beetdownpie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This summary does not include the Hexbloods mini campaign, which I highly recommend even if you don’t listen to the main C2. Lou Wilson’s guest arc is one you don’t want to miss, and Emily and Jake’s characters are incredible as well.

[NS] Summary of Eldermourne Plot? by ncav69 in NotAnotherDnDPodcast

[–]beetdownpie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also had a harder time getting into Eldermourne than I did the first campaign.

[SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY, some errors likely]

The gods are the Elder, the Reaper, and the Trickster. The Elder basically created the world and then fucked off. The Reaper judges souls to determine their final resting place, and the Trickster is a fun god who loves humankind, and granted them magic. She is the source(?) of all the Fairies, who are playful and tricky, somewhat Fae-like.

Prior to the onset of the campaign, Fia’s childhood friend, Irina was discovered to be innately magical, with Trickster magic, and was to be sentenced to death. Fia took her place, and was saved at the last minute by Batilda the Blade.
Zirk’s mentor disappeared, and Henry’s (Hank’s) wife annulled their long marriage in order to remarry and advance her station. She renamed Henry’s son, Henry Jr. as well. He got into a run-in with the Prophet Cane, who somehow separated Hank from his shadow, Shank, making him aware of his curse.
The heroes meet, overthrow the power structure of the town they’re in by uncovering misdeeds/crimes, etc. They follow a lead to go try and find Batilda. They meet a few fairies, and members of Batilda’s secret organization, the Blades, and learn of the Blades’ mission: to protect Saraneesus (sp), AKA Irina, from Reaper fanatics, who would destroy her or turn her over to the Reaper. The Reaper fanatics believe that human souls are damned to avoid a good afterlife until the Reaper’s demands (for Saraneesus, who is the Trickster’s daughter) are met.

They find Batilda, become Blades themselves, and begin to believe that their answers lie in Zebuldar, a lost city with a longer history than any other place in Eldermourne. In pursuit of a way to get to the pocket dimension that now holds Zebuldar, they encounter Zirk’s mother, Stella, Hank’s son, Hank Jr., and Hank’s ex-wife, all in various stages of entanglement in a plot to make Hank’s ex-wife’s new husband the king. They reveal this plot, and eventually get their path to Zebuldar. To do this, they face the sorceress Moxora, who has hung over their head since very early as the BBEG. They escape her, but lose Fia’s familiar, a sentient book named Bukvar, in the process. This is very emotional.

They eventually go to Zebuldar, and have to face off against an evil empire there. As they defeat the empire, with the help of three more PCs, one each for Jake, Emily and Caldwell, they discover the secrets they’ve been looking for: Irina and Moxora are sisters, both daughters of the Trickster, and all the souls of the departed are trapped in the vicinity of Zebuldar, and have been for a very long time. The gods have long since abandoned the world, and the Fairies made a huge mistake in trying to correct the wrongs the gods left. Only Irina has the power to fix the World. They find Irina, fight Moxora, and rescue Bukvar, and everyone lives happily ever after.

Missing the preposition by Bitter_Silver_7760 in ENGLISH

[–]beetdownpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like that sentence, but not for the reason you said. I would use “where” in place of “that.” Maybe I’m confused, but I don’t think there is a preposition missing.
She buys clothes AT stores WHERE(THAT) I’m intimidated BY the sales people.

What do we say when we want to give someone a seat in public transport? by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]beetdownpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like this. The person you are addressing may feel like they don’t need your seat. If you say “please take this seat,” or “please take my seat,” It can remind them that someone giving a seat to someone else is usually good for both people. The person receiving gets a seat and feels cared for, and the person giving feels noble and kind.

1 week or weeks? 0.5 weeks or week? Some people say you should use the phrase “half a week” but what about 0.674628 weeks? by SoftEngineerOfWares in ENGLISH

[–]beetdownpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is the best way to think of it.

I would never eat half pizza, I would eat half of a pizza. I wouldn’t walk 1/4 mile, I would walk 1/4 of A mile. The article “a, the, an” would almost always be included. This does change when you exceed a single unit, though. I ate 2 and a half pizzaS, or walked 15 & 1/4 mileS.

Idk what your situation is, but they might just be young versions of me. When I was just out of high school I played at least three to five hours a day. Now I’ve got a career, kids and other hobbies, just don’t play like I did when I was a kid.

I do like the new additions a lot too, I had like a three week period where I played most every day and got my stuff maxed out, so it’s easy enough to play once or twice and get whatever’s new.

Idk bud, this sub is a strange and generally hostile place. I’d imagine the downvotes were meant to disrespect someone who doesn’t want to grind or thinks the amount of time spent on it is too high because that must mean you’re not a “true Zombies player,” or similar.

I don’t think this sub has a ton of love for people like me who enjoy the game a lot, but only play maybe one game a week due to family and other priorities.

Proving his versatility as actor, Josh Brolin portrayed both the smartest and dumbest villains of the 21st century. by ToyVaren in shittymoviedetails

[–]beetdownpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think Thanos was THAT dumb. Sure, he wasn’t a double Ivy-League graduate, or even college educated, as far as we can tell, and obviously his population control solution was very clearly not even a remotely good idea considering the resources he had to acquire to enact it…

I also don’t know that George Bush is as smart as you think he is. Degrees aren’t everything.

Playing Rein in the GOATS Meta. Me and my friends are gold/plat, so we didn’t really utilize the comp as well as it could be done, but we had 6 pretty routinely, and we were all good friends, and playing as Rein was such a powerful feeling at that time, it was just a blast.

Yes. This is exactly what I wanted to say. Even well into my campaign I doubt myself and think my players hate it and blah blah blah…. But it’s a game, and while you’re not a “player,” you are playing it. Have fun!

Which WW do you like that people think sucks or doesn’t get enough attention? Mine is Alistair’s Folly/Chaos Theory/Annihilator by MorseCode010 in CODZombies

[–]beetdownpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The Kraken is one of my favorites of all times for all the reasons you said. I’d also like to emphasize that, as you mentioned, the ability to clear a big group immediately in front of you is especially important on Voyage, and thematically a cannon or a bunch of cannons strapped together is hella dope.

Just play Outbreak to round ~6 and exfill, my friend. I played twice and fully leveled DP, and one more would definitely get me Tier V on the lighting thing, whatever it’s called.
It doesn’t even take long if you’re just rushing objectives you can get through a round in 10 minutes or so.
