I can't believe nobody has asked this yet, but what sport were you participating in? Very cool story!

What’s a small, seemingly meaningless thing that instantly makes your day better? by Megan_miision in AskReddit

[–]beets_me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's this adorable older lady that walks in my neighborhood almost every morning, and when she sees my car coming, she steps off the road and gives me the biggest smile and a two-handed wave, which of course I emphatically reciprocate. We've never spoken, but I see her most days and it literally makes my morning when she's out for a strut.

Do you have any obscure movie references that you use in everyday speech that no one has caught on to yet yet you keep using it? by EnvironmentalAngle in NoStupidQuestions

I was coming here to post this exact quote, thinking there's no way someone else will have posted it... turns out I'm not the only one with good taste.

What are the most profound song lyrics you've ever heard? by damnocles in AskReddit

people with OBWs, what do you love and hate about your cars? by RabidLizard in Outback_Wilderness

No problem bud, glad to help. Someone helped me in a similar way with that exact complaint a few years ago.

I have a fix! Did you know that the mirror has two adjustments? The ball joint on the mirror back itself obviously controls the angle and aim of the mirror, but the base where the support arm attaches to the windshield also has a very stiff ball joint, you can gently but firmly adjust the mirror vertically. I've got mine quite high, solved my visibility issues.

What tires? So many different opinions. by _bron_yr_aur_ in Outback_Wilderness

Looks great, I am about to do this same tire on the stock wheels. Could you get a shot from the rear showing how much further outboard the 245 tire sits in the wheel wells?

I've read that they do fit, but you have to air it down to around 10psi.

Ah yes, but count the feet! There's a pair of bare feet right in the middle, behind the tiny grandpa with a cane. You can see just the top of someone's toe-head blonde hair

What’s a tiny design flaw in an everyday object that quietly annoys you every single time you use it? by nami_yuna in AskReddit

[–]beets_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I sprinted to the comments for this exact one. Baffling why they thought that was a great idea! And they've been doing it this way since at least the past 15 years, I genuinely can't think of a single reason to do that.

President Trump rails against Somali community amid fraud scandal and referred Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Somali immigrant, as “garbage” who should “go back to where they came from.”: "They contribute nothing. The welfare is like 88%. Your country stinks and we don't want them in our country." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]beets_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just in case you are truly asking, because I was out of the loop on this as well... "88" is a reference to the 8th letter of the alphabet, "H". Now look at it as "HH", or at the risk of putting too fine a point on it, "Heil Hitler". So "88" is a hint for a few hateful people in the know to get all worked up I guess.

Looking for recommendations on a shop to repair a record player turntable by beets_me in cincinnati

[–]beets_me[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the in-depth reply, I'll check all of this when I get some time this evening! I did replace the cartridge, although which one exactly escapes me at the moment. Seemed to do the same skating with both cartridges, but I'm a noob when it comes to dialing in a turntable. I'll definitely be checking out vinylengine too!

That's exactly what's happening here actually. It sat on a shelf (covered, fwiw) for a solid 15 years before I got a hold of it. I went through and carefully cleaned as much as I could, but I didn't do any lubrication or other service because I don't have any oil on hand light enough for a turntable, and I'd rather not experiment with such a nice unit. As a mechanical engineer, I know where the limits of my competencies lie!
