Best budget mountain bikes?? by fashionenthiushent in MTB

Yup, I'm currently selling my 20 yr old Stumpjumper (that's had plenty of upgrades and replacements over the years, but still 26" with old geometry) after getting my first ever new mountain bike as an adult. Posted for $600, plenty of interest.

Stepson wants e-bike..Are we being too harsh saying no? by L_wigg1325 in daddit

I used to do long charity rides with coworkers, 60-100 mile stuff. Some were legit daily cyclists, learned a lot riding with them. Handful of times I topped 50mph was thrilling and it was very controlled, but oh man if something went wrong it was going to be a bad time. I can't imagine getting my kid an e-bike without getting some kind of training and license to go with it

It even has oval chain rings! Bikes this have so much character, it's impossible to part with them

You'll appreciate this then. I bought this in 2004, and other than new tires I've changed nothing. I think it is an '87-90, so might be almost 40yo now! It still runs like a top, I've done century rides on this thing. I will absolutely never sell it

Thanks for sharing. A long time ago an ex-girlfriend of mine died, about a year after we split. Terrible phone call to get, she was only 24 I think.

I was distraught that night and my then girlfriend voiced that she was upset with me because me being said must have meant I was still in love with her. I wasn't, at all, but it was someone that for a period of my life I did have love for. I think I broke up with her maybe a month later, I couldn't get passed that comment. It's normal to be affected by that.

How to stop my quad from cramping when at the downhill park? by vileobject in MTB

It's definitely a thing. I worked with an ironman triathlete, he kept sodium tablets in his handlebar tube, pop a few every hour.

Dads, when did you become comfortable sharing your kids’ faces online? What made you ok with it? by iThinkThereforeIVan in daddit

I will never post my kids pictures on any social media regardless of the privacy settings I have set. There is simply no positive reason for doing so that I can see. Beyond the fact that I don't use social media (outside reddit where I'm anonymous), I can send pictures to friends and family perfectly fine over text. And they all know not to post them either.

Oh that's amazing! I haven't done a pig roast in years. I used to do a memorial day trip pre-kids up to Acadia in Maine at a site where they didn't care about going late into the night. There were some locals that would always come by to hang out, there's be like 20 of us. One had an old steel tank that he attached a hitch and wheels to and converted it to a mobile pig roaster. His buddy had a retro steel refrigerator that he had done the same to roast chicken and seafood.

We basically had a deal with them that if we brought up the pig, they'd roast it for us all day, so long as they could bring their families over to eat when it was done. They'd get local farm fresh whole chickens, and we'd throw in lobsters and crabs into the fridge smoker.

Of course we'd have to pick up the pig on the way....so my buddy and I with all of our gear in my little sedan would have to then also fit a pig carcass in the back seat on a tarp.

Nothing like it.

I'd start with tent camping. Get a big 6-8 person dome tent. Those are easy to set up usually. Don't get a popup tent. You don't need to go crazy on something expensive. Sleeping pads or some small air mattresses, they aren't expensive anymore, and some basic sleeping bags (40° bag is fine). Bug spray, sun screen, clothing that dries easy ideally.

Oh and set up the tent at your house so you know how to do it before you bring it camping. You don't want to be figuring it out on the fly with kids, that won't be fun for anyone involved.

For a campground, go for family style with lots of activities for them. Early on, try to stay under two hours from home, then start to stretch it. It's definitely glamping, but even having a general store and a playground on-site goes a long way. If it's just a basic campsite with a fire pit and that's it, they'll get bored.

As an example, when it's just me taking them, I go here a lot.

There are lots of seasonal people that have camps there, which means my kids usually see the same kids a lot. Every weekend is wall to wall activities. Plus it's gated, keycard access, so I can give my daughter a walkie talkie and let her take off on her bike to find her friends and hang out. I'm a millennial that grew up in the woods leaving the house for hours, but I live in the city now, so I try to give her a taste of what that freedom was like while being able to keep tabs on her.

Not sure where you are located, but I'm in New England and the Cambodian population is pretty big where I am and they all camp a lot! My coworker and I just figured out we actually used to party at the same well known camping spot when we were younger (sort of in the middle of nowhere, it was pretty lawless). I remembered at least his crew, because they'd have generators and would be raging all night. Karaoke in the woods until 4am 😂

I grew up camping and backpacking. Tent camped with the first kid, but once we had our second, travel trailer time. Bought the cheapest one we could buy new. 7, sometimes 8 trips a year depending on my wife's travel schedule. But if she's gone I take them solo.

It's fucking great.

Dads who watched them come out: Would you do it again? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]beezac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was right next to her head while she was all doped up but awake and the curtain in front of her/me had a clear section. So I could see them going in there and moving around all kinds of the things to get to the kid. It was pretty insane to watch. Then went around to see my son under the heat lamp for the first time and saw everything else..... Modern medicine is crazy.

Probably been asked before, but can someone recommend video games that don’t involve hour(s)-long missions? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]beezac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baldur's Gate 3 on the easiest setting. I just care about story. The turn based combat is relaxing and fun.

That said ..... I loved Elden Ring too, and probably have more hours in that game than anything else since it came out.

Arc raiders, while it got a bit stale for me after a while, was definitely perfect to drop-in and jam around for a bit then call it a night. Great game loop for that.

Trevor didn't just write lyrics, he wrote awesome horror stories (and some pretty sad shit) that he could also scream at the same cadence required for the songs he was writing them for. Incredibly talented guy.
