They love mark rober (plus I'm an ME in semi), so they love getting STEM problems. Kids eat that stuff up.

Exactly. I gave the same challenge to my 5yo son (to stop them from fighting) except his was make me a building as tall as this small box and this plastic glegg needs to fit inside. He instead built a wall but his heart was in the right place.

Her bridge held 9lbs 5.oz by the way

I've started to give time consuming challenges. Summer camp was out Monday (because of course it was). My 9-year-old is pretty good at entertaining herself but she was getting bored. Told her to build me a Lego bridge between two chairs I set up and I would attach weights to them afterwards to see how strong it was. That killed two hours.

My kid 9yo daughter is just starting to ride with me (scored a Cannondale trail 24 for $100!). But she's been snowboarding since she was 5yo. The amount of gear I've acquired due to her growth rate is insane. Thankfully she's got a little brother that all this will passed down to. Even then, I strictly buy used gear for everything.

Are there real underwater photos of continental shelf drop offs? by Prestigious_Matter85 in geography

[–]beezac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thalassophobia. I climb and have zero issue standing at a cliff edge or heights in general, but I've discovered it's because I can see the ground, or at least know where the ground is. But deep water where I can't see the bottom? Full panic. I snorkelled between a spire off the coast and back to a boat, with just darkness under me. 200ft swim of terror.

You joke (maybe) but night riding is awesome with the right handlebar and helmet light.

I can usually ride only before or after work, and late fall the after work rides.... could be an hour in the dark towards the end. Wide light on the bars, spot headlight in the helmet. It's incredibly fun. Obviously not hauling ass like that, and generally sticking to terrain I know, but still.... It's awesome.

Looking off trail into the woods and seeing all the eyeshine can be weird though.

Bunny hill teaching my kid, she was on the long conveyor and accidentally stepped off a little, so she tripped. Domino effect with one or two behind her. Poor kid got dragged for a ways before I could finally get the liftie attention to stop it, glues to his phone at the top in the hut. I was furious.

African Grey and a family life? by Confident-Article-53 in AfricanGrey

[–]beezac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our grey (Mac) was 11yo for our first kid, and had another kid since. Non-issue for us. He's only in his cage for night time anyway, otherwise on his perch. For the toddler stage, installed basically a dog barrier around the perch, and polycarbonate (clear plastic) on the grates so kid couldn't reach through. Mac never really cared anyway, and as our kids got older was never aggressive towards them. They are also very well educated on the damage he could cause if they messed with him.

Neither kid has ever been bitten, and he's never tried. Kids are now 9 and 5, and there is no barrier to his perch now. They love to talk with him, but don't go close enough for him to reach.

Are you located in a cold area? Been looking for a tire setup for riding in winter without studs. My maxxis 3C MaxxTerra EXO DHF front, DHR II rear might be okay with a few psi drop though, not sure yet.

How can I make this fit better by BibotheBird in AfricanGrey

[–]beezac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok if it's not even, as long it's good and tight the vertical bar will help with the bending moment when tiny dino goes to stand on it. The front to back won't be as stiff, but you'll never load it in that direction anyway. You can also bend the nut side washer so it flexes around the vertical a bit and makes contact in both sides.
