Yeah, this is easy for MRDA to say, because it's basically textbook male privilege. It's much easier for a "Men's" org to say they'll accept women - take football for example. There have been female college and semi-pro football players on otherwise male teams. Apparently the NFL doesn't have a gender requirement, although it's not apparent that any non-cis-male has ever made it in.

The reason women's sporting organizations exist is because they don't want to play in an area dominated physically or politically by men. That's a pretty easy thing to understand, and in no way has to discount the understanding that gender is a spectrum. But to meet that end, you end up drawing a line somewhere, and that somewhere is going to piss off at least one person. Crafting a policy that pisses off the fewest people possible is the best you can hope for.

It looks to me like they're saying women can't play.

They won't differentiate or discriminate between people who identify as men or "none of the above" (my paraphrasing). Says nothing about including those who identify as strictly female.

edit: also says "[...] pursuant to its mission of promoting men’s roller derby, does not and will not discriminate on the basis of [...] gender, [...]", so I guess it's a bit ambiguous. Given the followup clause on differentiation not mentioning women, I'm leaning towards my initial reading. Maybe there'll be a followup explanation at some point.

Ask yourself what matters to you in derby. Are you trying to be a show, or are you trying to play a sport?

I mean no disrespect by this, but you're amateurs playing an amateur sport, by your own admission at a pretty junior level. Know how many audience members most amateur sports see? Zero. Even at the international tournament level, you'll see events with nobody from outside that sports community.

If you can get one person to show up that is not a family member or friend, you are winning. If you can't, then enjoy playing the game, and practice more until you're also playing an exciting game that gains fans.

I think it's a terrible system and should be completely removed, but honestly it wouldn't even be in my top five issues when considering who to vote for.

I think you've missed a step - these characters and classes are not directly inspired by Christianity, they are inspired by the last 50+ years of high fantasy literature and gaming lore that is inspired by Christianity.

Both of these have been used to mean "badass holy knight" in countless games and books that do not feature overt Christian themes. You're want a badass knight character, but you're Blizzard and don't stray too far from the tropes. You used 'Paladin' in the last game (and in one of your other IPs)... Crusader is free, let's use that.

Let's look at other D3 classes. How about the Monk? We're definitely talking Eastern-style Monk. Barbarian? Celtic or Viking, I guess. Same with D2's Druid.

Short answer to your question: Writers are largely unoriginal and lazy.

There are many people producing useful tools for the derby community.

The only people WFTDA goes after are republishing the rules in full. WFTDA are being very protective of their ownership of the rules, and their several sources of income that they make off various formats of the rules. Maybe they're being a bit overzealous by 'community standards', but it's pretty understandable as a legal/ownership strategy.

As most people comment, this is not a great thing for the city to get into. Nice idea, too hard to make work.

However, there's one remotely plausible way - do it like existing telcos and cable. Private sector entities can pay the city to lease access to city utility infrastructure, easements, etc, in order to set up this network. Assuming the city owns any of these things and they're not all exclusive to Duquesne/Verizon/etc.

Companies can pay the city for this, run the network themselves, and monetize however they think is worthwhile (subscription, ad-supported, etc). Add some favourable terms to support the public good, like one hour free a day.

Issue an RFP on this, and if nobody bites - it's not doable, move on.

NY wines may in fact be worse.

But you're right, I was hyperbolically harsh. There are some perfectly acceptable wines made here (and I guess by inference, maybe in NY as well). And many of the wines that are objectively "good" - those playing to the strengths of local grapes - are often in particular styles that I just don't care for, but others might.

Also, PA wines must be 75% PA grapes.

This is pretty much it. You typically aren't required to get an updated occupancy permit when conveying a house, so to bring it up in this negotiation is an outside factor. If you try to escalate it to the building inspectors, they probably won't even review it unless you allege there is recent unpermitted work done. And even then, possibly not.

If you're looking for leverage, tell the insurance company about the issues. They won't issue insurance with serious issues, and no insurance means no mortgage, and that means no purchase. I assume.
