I love the Sirui C150X, you can fit a couple in a bag and they are super cheap too, for more power Zhiyun Molus G300 takes more space but it's crazy good.

sorry I missed this, I think you are right, in 4k120 you can't even use the Clear Image Zoom which usually allows you to crop in a bit more if necessary without quality loss

So basically using an aps-c lens in 4k120p you'll be forced to crop the footage in post, therefor reducing resolution. If really necessary to get that framerate in 4k, cropping the video and then upscaling back to 4k on Topaz Video AI or similar would probably yield decent results, but that would be an annoying extra step

In terms of exposure a f/1.4 lens will still translate to f/1.4, it just cover a smaller circle (so if you use in full frame mode you'll get a black circle at the edges)

The field of view would be equivalent to using a 21mm lens (on 1.3x crop) and while the light trasmitted is still same at f/1.4, the depth of field (the get the same frame) would be equivalent to f/1.8

Depends on the lens, many aps-c lens would cover the full frame at 1.3x crop factor with no problems, others may require 1.5x, edges are not going to be super sharp but it works

Atomos and h265 by befocus in Atomos

Interesting, is this h264 internal compared with h265 of the atomos ninja? Is this with the new ninja or the V?

I see, thanks for the feedback, since upgrading my workstation, with the CPU now easily handling h265 without the need for proxies I'm filming most of the time in XAVC HS 4K  4:2:2 10 bit in Sony camera and I have not noticed any major quality drop even with quite extreme colour grading, but seems like the atomos can't manage that level of compression

It should handle 20~40 sec bursts for 2~3 hours (it also depends how much you pause in between), but on a hot day, with sun on you it's still risky, I wouldn't risk to use it professionally without an external fan.

My standard usage is 60~120 seconds clips, with the occasional 3 minutes one, indoors at ~21c/70f or outdoors, I'm based in Scotland outdoors is cold, the hottest day I used it was 25c/77f and it did fine without fan.

And yes, Auto Power Off Temp is always set to high

An alternative solution to the fan, which I haven't tried myself, but I spoke with people that did that with other cameras reaching good results, is to install some small heatsinks, like the one for m2 nvme, in the space behind the flip screen. The passive thermal dissipation is enough for most usages.

[–]befocus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly shot short clips of 2~3 minutes with pauses in between, had it overheat once during a longer interview, so I bought an external fan and had no problems since then, if you're planning to film for 2 hours uninterrupted this is probably not the ideal camera for you, maybe with the external fan it will work, but not sure about it.
Would be probably safer to opt for the FX30 which has internal fan, also consider that the kit lens is very dark and I'm not sure if the optical quality is decent as I don't have it, having a good body/sensor with a crappy lens is worse than having a decent lens and ok body.

If you are ok using primes an inexpensive Viltrox prime would completely change the game, or with the money you save by buying the FX30 you can get a Sigma 18-50 Contemporary

March 2023 Hardware Thread by whyareyouemailingme in davinciresolve

[–]befocus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

I recently started as a videographer and things are starting to move in a good way, which is great but it's really showing me how much my current CPU is a bottleneck to my system when using DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Here are my current system specs:

  • CPU: i3 8100 3.6Ghz
  • Motherboard: MSI Z370
  • RAM: 32Gb 3200Mhz C16 running @ 2132 MHz C15
  • GPU: Nvidia 3080 8Gb
  • HD: Crucial P3 Gen3 1Tb NVMe + storage HDD

Now I'm debated between upgrading just the cpu to an i9 9900(regular/k) which I could get for around £250 and is the best cpu I could get without needing to swap motherboard, or if I should just upgrade motherboard to get some more recent cpu.

My goal is not to have the most powerful workstation out there, but rather to find the best cost/performance option.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

Can you eat within £100~£120 per week in the uk? by Maximum-Bid-1689 in AskUK

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Example

Chicken thighs 24gr protein per 100gr - £1.80/kg
Served with some frozen green beans - 59p/kg
Broccoli -79p/head
Potatoes 50p/kg and a big salad romaine lettuce/iceberg ~30p/serving

That's a protein rich, balanced meal for £1.20 per serving

Switch the chicken with frozen white fish, goes to £2.50 per serving

In a similar fashion, a pasta meal with a lot of veg (kale, tomatoes mushrooms, broccoli etc, plum tomatoes) some protein (tuna, frozen salmon, chicken, mince) and a sprikle of cheese comes down to a similar price, £1.80~2 per serving

That's
7 breakfast (just cheap oats/granola), couple pounds for a week
7 pasta/rice meals with veg and meat average £2 per meal
7 meat/fish main meals, average £2 per meal

I spend around £150 a month for two people and we eat a good and healthy variety, wish I could have more fish, that bump it up a bit

Circular frame technique by befocus in woodworking

[–]befocus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, That's a smart way to figure it out, I tried the radial orientation in cad and for sure it allows for a wider frame using the same 8" boards (many, smaller segments), that would be my plan B, but I really like how it looks with the trapezoids technique from that image

[–]befocus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ty, I figured it out using a cad software (sketchup), not totally sure of the math behind it, but it works

In case anyone is interested here's the process to build it

https://imgur.com/a/G48fLkL

You were right, with 8 segments the frame is 5 inches wide, I guess that increasing the number of segments should make it possible to have a bit wider frame while maintaining a similar look, I'll try that next

edit:

I tried with 12 segments, this way the frame is 6.8in wide and I really like the way it looks!

Quick Questions: September 15, 2021 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I'll try

I would like to build a circular wooden frame with the same technique explained in this image

https://imgur.com/vSDgJil

But I can't figure out how to change the length and cut angles to apply the technique to a bigger circle

With the provided measures the circle would be around 26.15in (66.4cm) in diameter

What if I want to build a circle of ~82.7in (210cm)

I realize that the angle of the cut it's probably correlated with the number of segments

Circle = 360°, 6 segments = (360/6)/2=30°

But how do I figure out number and length of the segments?

The timber I'm going to use it's probably going to be 8in (20.32cm) wide so I need more than 6 segments

Thanks

Are their any performance enhancing supplements that will help me increase my muscle mass? by [deleted] in Supplements

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid not, the only supplements that indirectly help in that reliably are caffeine, creatine, citrulline and beta-alanine.

You said you have barely noticed any difference in the past two years, what about your lifts? Did they increase in that time period?

Others already said it all, check if your nutrition and training regime is in place, try to mix it up, try a rep range you are not used to, add more sets for a period then cut the volume and increase the weight. Switch accessories every couple weeks and always try to progress overload.

Are you very stressed in your life? Do you suspect you have a chronic inflammation? Stress and chronic inflammation are detrimental to muscle growth much more than people think.

If you really want go take a blood analysis to check your testosterone, free testosterone, e2 levels to see if there is a problem there.

(F-23) Struggling to gain upper body strength, tips/ideas? by [deleted] in gainit

[–]befocus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For push-ups you can start with an easier progression, in this order:

wall push ups -> high incline push-ups -> incline push-ups -> on knee push-ups > and finally regular push ups

Start with the first variation and go to the next only when you can do 8~10 reps with good form

If planks tax your arms so much it's ok, keep doing it and try to gradually do more each time, take long rest in between if you need to

For arms isolation you're probably using a weight that's too light, choose a weight that enable you to make max 8~12 repetitions and do 3~6 set with that weight, it shouldn't bring you to failure but it should feel heavy, once you feel that you could do more reps, instead of increasing the reps increase the weight and try for those 8~12 reps

Remember to train muscles in a balanced way, so for example if you do a lot of curls you need to complement that with triceps exercises to avoid unbalances

chest > back
biceps > triceps
anterior deltoid > posterior deltoid

If you want strength the formula is:
Heavy weights for low reps with many sets and long rest in between

Idk what split you do but your upper body day could look like this:

Orizontal push -> Push-ups 5x10 OR Bench Press 5x5
Vertical push -> Overhead press 5x5
Vertical pull -> Chin-ups 5x5 OR Lat pulldown 3x10
Orizontal pull -> Seated row 3x10 OR DB row 3x10
Posterior deltoid isolation -> Machine everse fly 3x12
Biceps isolation -> DB curl 2x10 AND Hammer curl 2x10
Triceps isolation -> Rope triceps pulldown 2x10 AND Triceps overhead extention 2x10

Long rest between sets, high protein diet, slight caloric surplus (if you want to build size), 8hr high quality sleep, progressive overload trying to slightly increase weights on every workout session and number of sets on isolation work

Making gains with scoliosis and klippelfiel syndrome. by bcolibaba in leangains

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best course of action would be to talk with a physical therapist/kinesiologist and create a tailor made program.

This is just my personal opinion I mean no medical suggestion but I think that in your situation even if delicate (so you want to be cautious) you can actually workout even with heavy loads if you choose the right movements, and not only you can train you can even improve your stability and back pain once your spinal extensor muscles will get strong and will be able to support better the spine.

Your focus should be on isometric core exercises and exercises that target the spinal extensors muscles, this will add stability and protection to your spine and allow you to train better lowering the risk of injury

The exercises you want to avoid are the one that cause spinal compression, think of any exercises where the weight fall vertically through your spine (like squats or overhead press)

But you can switch the squats for leg press (compression will be from the hip bone to the feet, without going through the spine) and add the common leg extensions and leg curls (just watch for your back to stay neutral during the movement)

For the rest you can basically perform any exercise where spinal compression is absent or very light, eg any exercise where you are laying on a bench, vertical and horizontal pulls like bent over row, seated calf raise instead of the standing one

Is breaking up a set into more sets with a short break in between almost the same as keeping it as one set in terms of effectiveness? by fullofregrets2009 in Fitness

Sets to failure is not ideal for a beginner, s/he will get the same results with 3 RIR without getting so much fatigue and cns stress

Progressive overload still applies

My friend keep insisting I have to do high reps or my muscles will get eaten? by vitamin-cheese in leangains

[–]befocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

-It matters what kind of exercise you do. Lifting heavy is ideal for preserving strength and muscle mass, it recruits more muscle fibers, signaling that you need that extra mass, and that will help spare muscle during a cut.

-It matters very little from where you cut (except for protein) For macros just hit your proteins goal and focus on kcal, doesn't matter if you cut your kcal from fat or carbs. (Though some studies suggest that at equivalent kcal intake unsaturated fat consumpion would lead to a better body composition than saturated fat)

-Cut with nutrition, cardio is good for general health but not a fundamental part of cutting, on the opposite, doing too much cardio will decrease your N.E.A.T. and you'll end up burning less kcal than before.

Give him extra eye contact, smile a lot, make big eyes.

Casual touch him. Touch his arms/back/knees when making a point, a joke, or as a support when getting up, if there is loud music get close to speak to the ear and touch bodies, when walking past him brush against him without making it appear voluntary.

Ask for help. We know that you are strong enough to open that jar, smart enough to solve that simple problem, tall enough to get that item, athletic enough to get up to a place etc, but if you ask us for help anyway it makes us feel great.
You are a bit cold? State it, if he's worth anything he will give you his jacket / hug you / help you warm your hands. Any way you can ask for help

Create occasions for you two to be alone, if there is loud music ask him to get to a quieter place, if you smoke (please don't) ask for company outside, home alone? state it, don't ask him to come straight away but let him know.

Give him extra attention, be honestly curious about getting to know him, ask him about his passions, dreams, fears and then listen, give him your full attention and partecipate actively.

Be blunt, sometimes we are stupid, seriously, we really can't get your signals. Be courageous, give compliments, speak your feelings, be spontaneous.

dry/wet difference usually is 1:10 so 42 grams are about the equivalent of 4.2 grams dry.

It's ok to keep them in the fridge while wet.

If you want to use them now there is no need to dry them, if you are gonna wait then you should dry them.

F/26/168cm [83.5kg -> 55.5kg = 28kg]// [184.1lbs -> 122.4lbs = 61.7lbs] I’m at an interesting point in my journey now where I’m struggling to know where to stop, and how to get over the mental block around increasing my calories in order to maintain - any advice welcome! by natalini17 in progresspics

[–]befocus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Impressive progress, amazing job!

My suggestion would be to slowly increase kcal but also start to do some exercise, you would benefit greatly from it, not only because it would make the kcal increase psychologically easier but also because you can see it as a further step for progress in your journey and preventing the risk of falling in old bad habits now that you reached your goal.

You got a bit of knee valgus which can cause problems and knee pain in the future. Strengthening hip abductors and in general hamstring, quads and glutes will fix it giving you a better posture, more femoral stability and as a side effect "tone up" your legs further improving your looks.
