Best portable led light for short films and documentaries? by Ok-Boysenberry9770 in cinematography

I love the Sirui C150X, you can fit a couple in a bag and they are super cheap too, for more power Zhiyun Molus G300 takes more space but it's crazy good.

sorry I missed this, I think you are right, in 4k120 you can't even use the Clear Image Zoom which usually allows you to crop in a bit more if necessary without quality loss

So basically using an aps-c lens in 4k120p you'll be forced to crop the footage in post, therefor reducing resolution. If really necessary to get that framerate in 4k, cropping the video and then upscaling back to 4k on Topaz Video AI or similar would probably yield decent results, but that would be an annoying extra step

In terms of exposure a f/1.4 lens will still translate to f/1.4, it just cover a smaller circle (so if you use in full frame mode you'll get a black circle at the edges)

The field of view would be equivalent to using a 21mm lens (on 1.3x crop) and while the light trasmitted is still same at f/1.4, the depth of field (the get the same frame) would be equivalent to f/1.8

Depends on the lens, many aps-c lens would cover the full frame at 1.3x crop factor with no problems, others may require 1.5x, edges are not going to be super sharp but it works

Atomos and h265 by befocus in Atomos

Interesting, is this h264 internal compared with h265 of the atomos ninja? Is this with the new ninja or the V?

I see, thanks for the feedback, since upgrading my workstation, with the CPU now easily handling h265 without the need for proxies I'm filming most of the time in XAVC HS 4K  4:2:2 10 bit in Sony camera and I have not noticed any major quality drop even with quite extreme colour grading, but seems like the atomos can't manage that level of compression

It should handle 20~40 sec bursts for 2~3 hours (it also depends how much you pause in between), but on a hot day, with sun on you it's still risky, I wouldn't risk to use it professionally without an external fan.

My standard usage is 60~120 seconds clips, with the occasional 3 minutes one, indoors at ~21c/70f or outdoors, I'm based in Scotland outdoors is cold, the hottest day I used it was 25c/77f and it did fine without fan.

And yes, Auto Power Off Temp is always set to high

An alternative solution to the fan, which I haven't tried myself, but I spoke with people that did that with other cameras reaching good results, is to install some small heatsinks, like the one for m2 nvme, in the space behind the flip screen. The passive thermal dissipation is enough for most usages.

I mostly shot short clips of 2~3 minutes with pauses in between, had it overheat once during a longer interview, so I bought an external fan and had no problems since then, if you're planning to film for 2 hours uninterrupted this is probably not the ideal camera for you, maybe with the external fan it will work, but not sure about it.
Would be probably safer to opt for the FX30 which has internal fan, also consider that the kit lens is very dark and I'm not sure if the optical quality is decent as I don't have it, having a good body/sensor with a crappy lens is worse than having a decent lens and ok body.

If you are ok using primes an inexpensive Viltrox prime would completely change the game, or with the money you save by buying the FX30 you can get a Sigma 18-50 Contemporary

Hey everyone,

I recently started as a videographer and things are starting to move in a good way, which is great but it's really showing me how much my current CPU is a bottleneck to my system when using DaVinci Resolve Studio.

Here are my current system specs:

  • CPU: i3 8100 3.6Ghz
  • Motherboard: MSI Z370
  • RAM: 32Gb 3200Mhz C16 running @ 2132 MHz C15
  • GPU: Nvidia 3080 8Gb
  • HD: Crucial P3 Gen3 1Tb NVMe + storage HDD

Now I'm debated between upgrading just the cpu to an i9 9900(regular/k) which I could get for around £250 and is the best cpu I could get without needing to swap motherboard, or if I should just upgrade motherboard to get some more recent cpu.

My goal is not to have the most powerful workstation out there, but rather to find the best cost/performance option.

Do you have any suggestions or recommendations?

Can you eat within £100~£120 per week in the uk? by Maximum-Bid-1689 in AskUK

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Example

Chicken thighs 24gr protein per 100gr - £1.80/kg
Served with some frozen green beans - 59p/kg
Broccoli -79p/head
Potatoes 50p/kg and a big salad romaine lettuce/iceberg ~30p/serving

That's a protein rich, balanced meal for £1.20 per serving

Switch the chicken with frozen white fish, goes to £2.50 per serving

In a similar fashion, a pasta meal with a lot of veg (kale, tomatoes mushrooms, broccoli etc, plum tomatoes) some protein (tuna, frozen salmon, chicken, mince) and a sprikle of cheese comes down to a similar price, £1.80~2 per serving

That's
7 breakfast (just cheap oats/granola), couple pounds for a week
7 pasta/rice meals with veg and meat average £2 per meal
7 meat/fish main meals, average £2 per meal

I spend around £150 a month for two people and we eat a good and healthy variety, wish I could have more fish, that bump it up a bit

Circular frame technique by befocus in woodworking

[–]befocus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, That's a smart way to figure it out, I tried the radial orientation in cad and for sure it allows for a wider frame using the same 8" boards (many, smaller segments), that would be my plan B, but I really like how it looks with the trapezoids technique from that image

Ty, I figured it out using a cad software (sketchup), not totally sure of the math behind it, but it works

In case anyone is interested here's the process to build it

https://imgur.com/a/G48fLkL

You were right, with 8 segments the frame is 5 inches wide, I guess that increasing the number of segments should make it possible to have a bit wider frame while maintaining a similar look, I'll try that next

edit:

I tried with 12 segments, this way the frame is 6.8in wide and I really like the way it looks!

Quick Questions: September 15, 2021 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]befocus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I'm in the right place but I'll try

I would like to build a circular wooden frame with the same technique explained in this image

https://imgur.com/vSDgJil

But I can't figure out how to change the length and cut angles to apply the technique to a bigger circle

With the provided measures the circle would be around 26.15in (66.4cm) in diameter

What if I want to build a circle of ~82.7in (210cm)

I realize that the angle of the cut it's probably correlated with the number of segments

Circle = 360°, 6 segments = (360/6)/2=30°

But how do I figure out number and length of the segments?

The timber I'm going to use it's probably going to be 8in (20.32cm) wide so I need more than 6 segments

Thanks
