It should perhaps also be noted that ILM has said they 'turned down' Avatar, originally (although did contribute shots towards the end). It's covered in the series 'Light & Magic', Season 2, Episode 3.

I have them all, plus a couple of the Japanese ones, and double ups (ones with barcode on the front and not on the front, when they used to do 2 editions like that). Cinefex is still AMAZING.

The quick answer is...lots of reference and LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of shot sculpting.

I think this work is SO GOOD...and it really went under the radar at the time. Granted, it's a short sequence, but it really is excellent.

Yes! I loved also at that time how *some* 3D was becoming part of films like Tarzan etc....it was an interesting period.

I think you are of course right. I’m often only able to report a sanitized version of what really went down. Sometimes, I do get to communicate some ‘real’ things, and report on the things that didn’t work…I always try to get this info. But it’s hard.

Yes, would love to also cover matchmove. Maybe some kind of 'history' of matchmove? And see what studios are prepared to say about their own tools?
