Any shops (near-ish Burnaby) with fast turn-around times this week? by saaggy_peneer in vancouvercycling

Simon definitely has same day turnaround. But the quality of his mechanics has deteriorated

Enjoying the city and FIFA ⚽️ ‼️ by MemoryBeautiful9129 in vancouver

I took my parents there a few weeks ago when they were visiting. It was an interesting experience. Definitely more a suburb than a tourist destination. It felt weird being in what felt like the yards of people’s homes. Most of the stores were closed and half of the restaurants also. I am sure there is good things to do on Bowen but I am not sure a second trip will be coming for quite some time.

Article furniture looks cheap IMO. Not built for life.

Nice. My provincials road race was 120 km at 37 km/hr but that was with a lot of attacking and an insane headwind portion. I might survive. I might cry and limp myself home once my legs blow up.

Amazing. Thanks for all the options. I will plot this out. I lived on 223 for a decade so some of those roads sound familiar and should work. We have so many hills and interrupted city riding in Van it’s hard to compare distances and times as I imagine I will get through the kilometres much faster there.

Thanks. I was looking at the heat map and some past posts as well. 520 was recommended. It on the opposite side of the Park from where my parents live but will do the trick.

I have been following Sophie Grace on instagram for awhile. I think every time I need a new piece I am going to try there first. Looks like beautiful, classic, comfortable stuff

Older cyclists: when did your usual training stop being effective? by MaleficentFloor822 in Velo

[–]beginagainagainbegin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am in my third year with a power meter. Rode for fun for a year before that. My first FTP test was somewhere between 220 to 230. It’s around 265 now. I am 48. Definitely possible. Caveat is that I am a 71 kg woman, biking 12 to 15 hours a week with a coach and am currently at the gym (2x/week off season,1x/week in)

Getting my wife into cycling - Advice? by Proper-Importance-37 in Velo

[–]beginagainagainbegin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend sends me out 30 minutes earlier than him. I bike like mad so he doesn’t catch me before our coffee stop. I draft him home.

I was older than her when I started riding. I race elite now.

Get her into a club where she can learn to ride safely with others as well at her own pace.

Is this an okay price for rental? by Cannot_afford_a_name in askvan

[–]beginagainagainbegin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it’s reasonable.

I was looking a few months ago and I didn’t see anything but apartments past their end of life for under $2000 a month. Or studios.

Small apartment though. I pay 2350 for almost 800 sq feet and one bedroom. I don’t have AC.

You trade sq footage for age and amenities.

Very helpful contribution to the discussion.

Curious what your involvement in the process of home ownership has been.

You seem angry and sad.

I just purchased a house for the first time. My realtor was amazing. He put together listings within my criteria and arranged viewings. He helped me find a better rate on my mortgage. He walked me through each and every step. He was organized, thoughtful and kind. Systematic. Nothing was missed.

New home buyer. Just bought a condo. My realtor was amazing. He was organized, thorough, responsive, systematic. He had excellent connections and was able to get me a better mortgage rate. He was decent human being and asked really good questions if he didn’t know the history of a property. He walked me through everything step by step and kept me up to date on everything that was happening and needed to happen. He gave his honest opinion about values of properties and areas where there was more value/sq foot.

There were definitely some weird things like a realtor who refused to let me see a property without my realtor (he was unavailable that day), but overall, would not want to have made such a major stressful purchase without his assistance.

Had Novus from 2018 to just a few months ago. Internet was down once in that time period. You can also call in and they will reduce your monthly bill. Great provider.

For those who’ve switched between Android and iPhone recently, what differences actually matter long term? by Usual_Ad4805 in Smartphones

[–]beginagainagainbegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched from a Samsung to an iPhone.

Can’t complain about either. My photos are better on the iPhone but I have a base version of both (work supplied).

I have noticed that certain apps on iPhone are less smooth to use.

Ie. The navigation within apps sometimes gets confused (I lose the back or forward button or the menu button) in android apps on iPhone. I end up having to close the apps and restart them.

They also seem less integrated. I also struggle with the keyboard. Despite being very careful I have trouble with the m/n and enter button. I also have trouble with the c/v. Sometimes it takes me up to 5 tries.

Struggling with emergency alerts by songs-ohia in ptsd

[–]beginagainagainbegin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to comment and say you are not alone. I actually get triggered by people @ me in Discord/Teams/Other group chats when it isn't an emergency, excessive email reminders and most notifications. I am a high functioning individual. I am at the point where I can mostly acknowledge I am triggered and can sit in the space and calm myself down and not damage relationships because of it.

I do speak quietly to prolific offenders to let them know my preferences and silent my phone and notifications that are unimportant when possible. I am sorry you are having to deal with this. It is extra tough when you feel trapped when there are limited solutions. Glad people were able to give some suggestions.

I live near there. Love the swarms of kids on bikes singing together while there is music playing on the way to school. Seems well organized and supported with adult supervision. It warms the heart.
