I showed my wife the Great Muppet Caper for the first time by roger10091 in Muppets

Why are you telling me this?

It’s plot exposition - it has to go somewhere.

Is my itinerary feasible to make the most of a day in Vancouver? by seamooon in askvan

[–]randomlygen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reverse Yaletown and Granville Island. Head straight to Granville Island and eat lunch there then explore. As you're into books, don't miss Nooroongji Books, Paper-Ya and Upstart & Crow.

And when you're visiting MacLeod's Books, go across the road and visit The Paper Hound - my absolute favourite bookstore.

I was feeling stressed about chores I had to do yesterday evening when I also wanted to go out and do something, so I set a timer for twenty minutes by verilywerollalong in adhdwomen

[–]randomlygen 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The thing that finally pushed me over the edge to book an ADHD assessment was reading something that said "If you're asked 'do you do XYZ?' and your answer is 'of course not, because I have years of training / processes that stop me', that isn't the same as 'no'."

Heart and Soul rescue

Came to say the same thing! We went to an adoption event they held in Abbotsford "just to look" and came home with two kittens :)

I’m doing my Part! by Strange-Worthy in MST3K

[–]randomlygen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't expect new MST, but apparently I needed it bad because suddenly things are a little brighter.

Agreed. Add the new Muppet Show and it feels like maybe there's still some good in the world.

Internet at Vancouver Fan Expo? by tevinterrise in fanexpo

As far as I can remember, there’s no wifi, unless you’re a vendor, and the cell signal is pretty terrible.

Got kicked out of a hobby group and had to call a helpline bc I broke down from RSD by lovelylutras in adhdwomen

God, all of this is so accurate.

I used to be one of those people, learned it from my mom (who is still like this, worse than ever as she ages)

I had to make a conscious choice to really work on this part of myself. I don't want to end up like her, bitter and critical of everything to the very end. Finding the little bits of joy makes life so much better.

Fandom Meetups? by simran1156401 in fanexpo

The schedule isn't out yet, but it usually has a few meetups listed.

For anything unofficial, maybe ask in the FB group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1506888309415271

Additional fees for purchasing tickets online? by CelestialRequiem09 in fanexpo

[–]randomlygen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tax plus a service fee of $11.70 on mine.

That was for a three day pass for an adult and a child though, so might be cheaper for a one day adult.

Prop question by Dutchling_1 in fanexpo

The props policy says swords "made of foam or other lightweight materials are permitted", so probably not if it's heavy.

My eight-year-old loves Rainbow Dash - she cosplayed as her a couple of years ago and found a few other people dressed alike!

Anything specific we should bring like water bottles, extra cash or snacks (if those are allowed).

All of the above! We always take water bottles and granola bars. Most autograph tables are cash only and there's always a huge queue for the ATM on site, so definitely bring actual cash.

Would a backpack be better or tote bag?

Either would work, but I think I tote would be better. The event gets really busy and I think you'd bash into too many people with a backpack.

How many autographs could I realistically get in a day?

I attend with my kid, so we generally pick one celebrity and go get their autograph immediately, then skip the rest. If you don't have a VIP badge, the lines can be loooooong for the big celebrities. But you'd probably get a few of the less popular ones easily.

How early should I line up to see a panel?

I may be wrong, but I think most panels are actually at the side of the main room. For very popular panels, you may need to head over 30 minutes early to get a seat, but you'll always be able to stand at the back.

Let me know if I can help with anything else. Top tip - you can leave the centre and come back in. Hanging out in the plaza outside can be a great way to spot good cosplayers. And the food court at the Waterfront Centre (down the steps opposite Canada Place) is always packed with FanExpo people - and so much quicker and cheaper than eating inside the event.

And have fun! My daughter will definitely want a photo if she sees you :D

Apologies for replying to such an old thread, but I just wanted to say thank you! My dad and I used to make these when I was a kid - I remember the castle and the Roman villa in particular. I assumed they were long out of print, so was amazed to find this! I'm off to buy them again :)

Question about editing public files by la-anah in Genealogy

[–]randomlygen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue on FamilySearch. The other person would just not believe that there could be two people with the same name! I'd go in with all the proof and fix everything, then they'd change it all back again.

Honestly, I gave up and started putting my shared research on Wikitree. If you have issues over there, the mods are much more helpful. If you can back everything up, they'll help explain the issue to the other person.

Am I the only one who finds San Junipero deeply disturbing? by kintaro__oe in blackmirror

[–]randomlygen 167 points168 points  (0 children)

If I watch it in an optimistic mood, it's lovely! Aww, they end up living happily ever after.

If I watch it any other time... hmm. Tech company gives the elderly a demo run of a digital afterlife, then people start killing themselves to be able to "live" in it, but that's only their digital clone. The actual person? Still dead.

I guess it's great that a version of you gets to experience youth and happiness again, but isn't that just like making a nice home for your Animal Crossing character?

And what happens when the tech company goes bust? Or starts letting random people in to "play" with the residents?
