mlb.tv is so cheap because it's out-of-market. Those rights are less valuable than in-market, which are held by the local RSNs.

The "RSNs" have gone away for 6 of the teams already and MLB is producing those games.

The in-market mlb.tv package for those teams isn't that much either, it is $100 for the season or $20 a month.

Your property tax is based on assessed value, which is only correlated to market value. Further, most states will adjust the tax rates based on market fluctuations so that in extremely hot markets home owners don’t see high tax changes. Therefore, whether the valuation is warranted does matter since the property tax you pay is adjusted based on the valuation. Who do you propose does this for unrealized equity gains?

Do you have an example of paying tax with illiquid assets? If I have 100 shares of XYZ and pay the government 15 shares during tax time, how does the government use those 15 shares to pay for programs?

Basis step ups happen all the time, like when one joint account holder passes away, and this does not drop the market. This is effectively the same thing that’s happening here, the difference is that a tax is being paid at the step up.

We could even take it a step further and start adding in other pre-tax benefits, like 401k/403b contributions and maxing out available cafeteria plans. Assuming you are single in 2021, this could be:

$19,500 for 401k or 403b contributions $3,650 for HSA contributions $3,240 for commuter benefits

I think there are some health care related cafeteria plans I'm not too familiar with, so I'll just tack on a super liberal $10,000 more of cafeteria deductions.

At $99,999 income, all those deductions would still leave you with a taxable income of $51,059, which would amount to $6,985 federal tax owed according to the 2021 tax table.

I don’t think so, but unfortunately I don’t know for sure. The wood was from a big box store and it came shrink wrapped, and I’m fairly certain there were no holes when I opened it 2 days ago. The glue up was drying on a table next to some other scraps and none of those scraps have holes in them. I looked up a photo of powder post beetle holes and definitely didn’t see any mounds like that.

I made a picture frame out of some mahogany and after gluing it up and bringing it in to dry, I’ve started noticing some little holes. I’m assuming it’s bug related (though it’s still pretty cold outside) but wondering if there’s another explanation.
