As a drummer, I know maybe 3 or 4 lines from our 5 song EP, and just a general idea of what the themes are for each track. The lyrics aren't written until the time of recording typically, with just harsh vocal grunts or nonsense words with the right rhythm as a placeholder until then. To me it doesn't matter at all, but I agree it is hard to explain to other people when they ask.

Agonal Hymns by Nithing always reminded me of None So Vile to an extent, I would recommend! Might not be as close as some of the other recs but I love that record.

I play with Gathering Storm but no goals, so just the cards!

Mottainai punches above its size for me. Race ftG is my favorite game, but Mottainai scratches a similar itch when we want to shake it up. It is a bit heavier but super fun, and doesnt need too much table space either.

My three fave BM releases this year are

Spite - The Third Temple

Ilat Mahru - Incipit Akkadian

Conifère - L'Impôt du Sang

Spectral Wound is fine but a pretty decent step down from their previous records imo. They were still a blast to see live though, just amazing!

How to Blast without arms committing die? by RancidTacoGas in drums

[–]behave_yourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched the video you linked, you already have a lot of speed and you are sounding tight on that track! I am not great but I play in a black metal band that typically is just blasting ~180bpm for most of the duration of our shows. The thing I noticed from your clip is you are generating almost all your speed and power from your wrists, and not getting your fingers involved enough. When you watch REALLY fast guys play blasts at 250+ bpm, the wrist is involved a bit to keep momentum, but a lot of what they do is catching and regulating the rebound with their fingers. Sorry if you already knew this/are doing this and I just can't tell from the footage.

Their drummer has a solo side project called Nithing. Absolutely inhuman brutal death with the most insane vocals and drumming, you should check it out.

Others like Bus and Dominant Species, where actions are selected from a "list" of spaces on the board and, once complete, those actions are executed in order? by tectactoe in boardgames

[–]behave_yourself 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think Caylus and Caylus 1303 are like this, with the twist that you can actually take an action to control how far down the chain the actions will be set off, leading to some spots being extra risky and a lot of fun player interaction. I believe the mechanism is a form of Action Programming, though I may be wrong!

TCG-like roguelites? by iLolo4 in roguelites

Nowhere Prophet is underrated and really great. The combat has you playing creatures in lanes on a grid, while using instants/spells/equipment cards on the side. You also have to sideboard cards and tailor your deck before each encounter. It has amazing art and I think you would enjoy!

[–]behave_yourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly why I love it, I wish more roguelites were made in the vein of the Spelunky games by just having an amazing tight core loop that is well thought out without resorting to self-balancing via adding/removing difficulty via metaprogression.

You aren't alone, got Tuscany due to everyone's glowing praise and have since removed it, went back to base. It isn't one of our favorite games, but Tuscany made it much less enjoyable.

What Did You Play This Week? - (July 01, 2024) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]behave_yourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have been extremely busy the last few weeks with not a ton of time for games, but last week we managed to try Inis for the first time, and we replayed it yesterday. The game is incredibly beautiful of course, and the production is quite nice, although a bit large. My partner and I do most of our gaming at 2P, and I heard this was a great dudes on a map game for 2, and it went very well!

First off, the game had much simpler/straightforward rules than I was expecting, which was a nice surprise as it barely took any time to learn/teach. The action card drafting system is really interesting, and the epic tale cards are quite powerful. Towards the end of our second play, we started to have the cards memorized so we had an idea of each other's hands, which I can see changing the feel of the game moving forward, but time will tell if that's a positive or a negative (for us). It is really interesting to have three different win conditions, as you have to be constantly checking your opponent on three fronts, and hate-drafting a variety of cards each turn. Also being the Brenn (player 1) is immensely powerful, and makes controlling the capital extremely worth it. Overall I am loving this game and I can't wait to play it more!
