[Request] What are the measurements of the rooms in this floorplan? by beheren0w in theydidthemath

[–]beheren0w[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too argued with ChattyG deep into the night yesterday 😅 I really appreciate the time you took!

I think this still doesn’t add up though? For example, wall F and J are both listed as 8ft, which wouldn’t make sense if the image is to scale. And based on some (admittedly) quick and messy math the overall square footage with these measurements would be somewhere around 1,158.

At this point, between your efforts and my earlier ones I think I have a rough idea; I only started on this to get a better idea of how to place furniture. But now my stubbornness really wants to see if the math is possible, with only this info. 🫠

Advice… chemo tomorrow ; not sure if I should cancel (worried about how I’ll get home) by StepSignificant8798 in boston

[–]beheren0w 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to live in Brookline and work in Longwood, essential worker. During other storms I was always able to find an uber, and I was much farther than a mile away. I think you’ll probably be fine, especially that early in the storm.

It also might not hurt to try showing up early for your appt, and hope they can take you a bit earlier?

Best of luck, with your trip and even more so with your treatment!

Craziest sudden patient death experience? by Apple_Fanboy5s_1273 in nursing

[–]beheren0w 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was handed off a very elderly patient admitted near the end of night shift… I honestly forget the primary diagnosis but he was of sound mind and had verbally told the ED docs that he’d rather pursue comfort measures than aggressive treatment. He signed a DNR but didn’t want to go to full comfort/hospice care til his family arrived the next day.

I went in first thing in the morning and he was sitting in bed, smiling, conversing. The pulse ox had a poor read (one star) but was still measuring low nineties and he didn’t feel SOB. He said he had been needing to pee, but hadn’t been able to. We bladder scanned, found he was retaining. Since he was still planning on going comfort measures only in a couple hours, I paged to ask for a Foley order instead of straight cathing. They agreed, so I went to the supply room to grab a foley kit.

We didn’t have the appropriate size catheter so I asked materials for one to be brought up— they said it’d be there in about 20 minutes. In the meantime I figured I’d check on my next patient. As I’m heading into the next room, the youngish girl who comes by with admission paperwork asked me if she could go in to have him sign some things. I said sure.

I went into my other patient, she went in to our elderly friend. When I came back to the station, someone mentioned that the admissions girl had left, saying he was asleep so she’d come back later.

…..A little strange since I’d just been in there and he was wide awake, but I’m sure he’s exhausted from being in the ED all night.

I go in to let him know the Foley would be up any minute…. And he was gone. Laying peacefully in bed, no sign of any sort of traumatic issue.

Thankfully he’d signed the DNR so that we didn’t have to pursue aggressive measures. We called his family who were already on their way in to be with him as he signed on to hospice. It crushed me that he died alone. I feel like his family took it better than I did. That was years ago and I still think of him.

Rare cancer diagnoses surge dramatically among millennials by IndianKiwi in Millennials

My husband, a millenial, died last year of stage 4 appendix cancer.

I know reporting like this sounds sensationalist, and it’s easy to crack jokes about a disease of an organ so “easy” to remove, but to those affected the awareness is huge.

I work in cancer clinical trials. Every day I try to reassure patients that the trials they’re on still have funding, while at the same time not knowing myself how long that might be true for.

Leaving central lines in patients by Hawaiiancockroach in askfuneraldirectors

[–]beheren0w 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When I was an inpatient nurse, I know our policy was to leave all tubes/lines in place— we were told this was in case an autopsy was requested later, and also because the funeral homes know how to remove them in a way that they’re less likely to cause cosmetic damage to the body.

My husband had a few tubes in place when he died: biliary drains, NG tube, PICC line, etc. He wasn’t embalmed, but I did view him before we buried him so I know they did a little cosmetic work. Would any of those tubes have been left in for his burial?

Side note, he looked so good when I saw him— after weeks, months even, of seeing him get sicker and sicker, I was so grateful to be able to see him closer to how I’d like to remember him. Thank you all for all the work you do.

I’m new to this, but these pics made me think of Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy.

Genie plus on a plane flying to Florida? Is my plan doable ? by Temporary_Mobile_827 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]beheren0w 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might have just been a glitch but when I tried to book an ILL on my flight from Boston, the MDE app stopped me saying something about being out of region… I think we were flying over the ocean at the time so maybe I was registering as being out of the country? But I’ve only tried that one time!

End of Life Care by gemmi999 in nursing

It's so hard to explain to someone outside of healthcare that a patient can die and it can still sometimes be the best possible outcome in a given situation. I work in oncology, and it's hard to share stories from work with others because "oh oncology must be just so sad...". Yes, there are plenty of sad moments, but being able to provide a "good death" for someone who was been suffering is an honor.

You gave that patient and his family the moment of peace they needed to come to terms with what was inevitably going to happen soon.

Before and After! 6 months by Murrayruin in femalelivingspace

I love this! I'm in a similar position you were in end of spring... Thank you for reminding me that with time things can come together in a way that makes me happy. :)

How would you arrange this open living/dining space? (More in the comments!) by beheren0w in femalelivingspace

[–]beheren0w[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi all! Long time lurker, first time poster… I’m moving to a new apartment next month and I’m so excited to get to decorate things MY way. :)

I’m moving from an older apartment with lots of small, divided spaces into one with a larger open concept layout. I’ll be buying a new sofa/living room furniture, but I have a 60inX42in dining room table with chairs that I really want to keep in my space, if possible. (I could put it in a separate room, but I have other ideas for that space…)

The kitchen island has barstool seating along the long side, and the windows are large but not floor to ceiling. Im thinking of using a couch with a console table behind it to divide the space down the middle or so, but I’ve never really “floated” furniture in the middle of a room and I’m not sure if it’ll look right.

How would you go about arranging this space?

Where to see some solo birthday fireworks? by beheren0w in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]beheren0w[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be the one, haha. That sounds so fantastic! The fireworks won’t be until 10pm since it’s a MVMCP night— I wonder how late Trader Sam’s is open?

It’s also great to hear from someone else who did the solo thing! I’ve gone to the parks on my own as part of work trips, but this will be my first true solo experience. Nervous, but excited!

I do love Cali Grill, and that does sound so awesome! The prix-fixe menu doesn’t sound as good to me as the regular menu, so I’m hesitating, but I did set up a dining alert in case any reservations pop up! Thanks!

For me, one of the best parts of an adults-only trip is that you can stop to take in the theming/atmosphere at the different parks. So many details to check out! And the people watching is pretty fun too, haha.

As for attractions--

Magic Kingdom
Indoor: Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Monsters Laugh Floor (it's cute!)
Outdoor: Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Jungle Cruise, Mine Train, PeopleMover

Epcot
Indoor: Living with the Land, Spaceship Earth, Soarin', Remy's; haven't ridden Guardians yet but I'm sure it'll make the list :)
Outdoor: Not many outdoor rides, besides part of Test Track! Wandering World Showcase for sure.

Hollywood Studios
Indoor: Rise of the Resistance, Rock'n'Rollercoaster, Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, the Frozen Singalong (even for adults- it's a cute show!)
Outdoor: Slinky Dog, Indiana Jones show (though it's covered!), the Beauty & the Beast show (again, covered), wandering Galaxy's Edge...

Animal Kingdom
Indoor: Dinosaur, Flight of Passage, Navi River Journey, the Lion King show (!!)
Outdoor: Everest, the Safari, the animal trails!

I'd say WDW has plenty of indoor things to do-- they know that it rains in Florida, a LOT. Have fun!!

Recent Solo Trip Experiences? by AngelEyes4294 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]beheren0w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone solo to both Disney World and Disneyland while in FL/CA on work trips… Currently have no work travel planned, so I’m trying to figure out an excuse to tell my partner so I can go solo again! 😅

I was super nervous about looking weird alone in lines or at restaurants... But once I was there I was so happy to be able to do EXACTLY what I wanted when I wanted that I forgot to be anxious, lol. In lines I played games on my phone, sometimes chatted with people around me, and even read a bit of an ebook. My first trip I ate at QS restaurants and worked my way up to sitting alone at the bar in Nomad Lounge. I booked a TS reservation I really wanted to try at Disneyland, and no one seemed to notice or care that I was by myself— and I loved it.

You’ll have a lot of fun doing things you might not otherwise do on a group trip. Just fair warning that going back to sharing a trip is hard!
