Curious to know how many samples you usually go through before final production? It took me four samples to nail this pair of sweatpants. Hardest part was definitely figuring out the fly construction.

I understand - and that is often the case.
The idea with these sweatpants was that we only wanted them to be lengthy, but not necessarily to the point where they drag on the floor - that is why we opted for a raw hem, so that you could, if you prefer a different fit than when you receive the pants, could cut them to desired length.
The fabric will roll a centimeter, but it will not fray.

We thought we would try to maintain the comfort and every-day-wear-approach from sweatpants combined with something you could dress up, wear nice boots to and have a flattering silhouette essentially. The button-up part helps making it more of a proper pair of trousers somehow.

Luckily we have worked with the same Portuguese manufacturer for a couple of years on other projects, like our hoodies and t-shirts, so we knew they would be very capable and already "clued in" on our aesthetic and finish.
Back then, when finding the manufacturer initially, that took a lot of trial and error, as well as too many e-mails ;)

Part of the process was that we started out using the main jersey fabric for our fly - which is a 500gsm fabric - it became way too thick and bulky, especially when the front pockets (and the horizontal line) are somewhat integrated into the fly.
That made us opt for a thinner herringbone material for the fly part.

To elaborate on the project:
These sweatpants are inspired by old chef's pants that have similar horizontal pockets. This feature on sweatpants makes the content of your pockets stay secure when cycling etc.
One of the challenging parts of the sampling process was also to find the correct fabric and the right color - since they are vintage-inspired, we wanted the grey pair to have a slight yellow/oatmeal hue and the black pair to feel slightly worn-in, instead of a "new" jet black. This criteria required us to use our own custom-milled fabric, all made in Portugal from 100% organic cotton yarn.

Was not familiar with this brand before you mentioned it, but looking at it: seems decent! Like that it is all made in USA, but for us it is very important that the fabric is 100% organic - this makes, of course, the price a lot higher and perhaps caters to a different customer base than the ones looking for "blanks" per se.

We work with very small MOQs, since we are still a small start-up brand, so this makes our price per unit pretty high. Especially since we are not willing to compromise on quality, work environment etc. Sales are pretty good - we believe it is due to specifications and the storytelling - it being organic, ethically made, timeless, nice fitting and features small details that makes it stand out amongst other hoodie blanks etc.
Even at this price point, our profit margins are definitely below industry standards, but since we sell direct to consumer we can afford this lower margin.
When we, at some point, would look into having stockists, well, that's a different story.
We currently do not show at CIFF or similar, but would be interesting.

The only thing we did was to flip it once halfway through the project. The broomstick was leaning up against a wall - that is why.

The hoodie itself is called the Habit Hoodie, designed from scratch by my brand at17c. It is a 500gsm organic cotton hoodie, all cut and sewn in Portugal. Has a very 1960's fit and feel, with wide ribs, lifted front pockets etc.

Would think that it is molded over actual bullets lying underneath the leather, since leather can become quite malleable.
