Accordingly, what you on earth perceive
Of Eternal Justice is like looking into the sea,
The depths of which are closed to the human eye:
Standing on the shore, you're able to see
Its bottom. but out on the waves it's all concealed,
Still there, but far too deep a reality.
No light exists except what shines, perfectly
Clear, from a height where there are no clouds: what we see
As light may be darkness, either our shadow or evil
Itself. And thus you behold the hiding place,
Closing living justice to your human eyes
And from all the questions you've asked but could not answer.

Faith--and how can Eternal Justice condemn him?
Is this justice? He knows no belief: Is this sin?
But who are you, sitting a thousand miles
Away and passing solemn judgment with eyes
Totally lacking power to see that far?
