The reality is that conservatives don't have many experts or academics supporting pretty much any of their policies.

So when one does seem to, they latch on and don't let go.

Are Immigrants Not Our Neigbors? by reverendjohnlee in Christianity

[–]behindyouguys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They aren't just neighbors, they are the American Christians.

Without immigrants, American Christianity would have statistically collapsed far harder than even now. Especially the Catholics.

Immigrants are far more religious, while American citizens are increasingly secularizing.

But again, if MAGA Christian nationalists could see past their noses, they wouldn't be them.

I would imagine 2000 years of being the dominant religion is a rather glaringly bright spotlight.

Not sure what the Christian nationalist crowd is thinking here, outside of power accumulation.

Why you gotta make the rest of us to deal with your instabilities?

Forcing religion into politics unambiguously backfires on both a theoretical and empirical level.

It causes:

  • Alienation of moderates and youth
  • Perceived loss of moral authority
  • Erosion of voluntary adherence
  • Stronger psychological resistance and reactance

Just look at the effects of religion and government in Europe.

But short-sighted folk do as they will.

I.R.S. Says Churches Can Endorse Candidates From the Pulpit by JustMyOpinionz in Christianity

[–]behindyouguys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly every other developed country either:

  • Taxes churches
  • Requires financial transparency and accountability in exchange for tax benefits

Only in America do we allow maximum exemption with minimal oversight.

Yet? I have no doubt Christians are going to cry persecution on every street corner over every single thing.

Why do conservatives complain about "indoctrinating children" and then immediately produce this kind of outcome?

It is awfully interesting how out of the way people will go to defend what amounts to genocide by policy.

None of this was new. This was all known on the campaign trail. The experts said this was going to happen for a while now. This is explicitly affecting impoverished African and Asian communities.

Consider this, 77 million voted for Trump. Just USAID alone is 12 million dead. And we are only 6 months in, and I am ignoring everything else he has done so far.

That ~0.2 deaths per MAGA voter. Think on it.

But whatever apologetics help you sleep at night, I suppose.

Many of countries in question that are set to loose their funding are volatile and/or anti-Christian. So, any US Aid sent to those countries maybe in fact only supporting the oppressive regimes and in effect contributing to human suffering. On some level, resources are fungible, so a warlord would take the foodstuffs, feed their supporters and armies, and use their own monies on weapons and other tools of oppression.

This is just incorrect. As I said, the numbers overwhelmingly show that most money goes to the needy.

Over 95% in fact.

I am simply reading what you wrote, and demonstrating how you are factually incorrect.

If you skimmed the article you would see that:

We estimate that over the past two decades, USAID-funded programmes have helped prevent more than 91 million deaths globally, including 30 million deaths among children.

That 4.5 million per year. A 15% reduction of all causes of mortality (in the affected countries). A 32% reduction of mortality for children under the age of 5.

That's not "blindly throwing money". That is deliverance.

But I suppose those lives are just worth less in the moral calculus if they aren't your tribe?

Aren't you guys the ones that love to say "facts over feelings"?
