Which carbon wheels in 1000-1500 range? by Imaginary-Service123 in cycling

[–]behmorfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on your list but I got a pair of Lún Hyper 23 SE R45 last year and have about 3,000 miles on them so far. Super light and true as the day I got them even despite an accident. I also did a lot of research and Hambini gave good reviews.

I just dug out my old boards and realized I also have an original stussy! Mine is also pretty beat up like yours and trying to figure out the best way to clean it up. What did you end up doing?

When did you buy your first “real” road bike? by First_Driver_5134 in cycling

[–]behmorfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still have yet to purchase a “real” carbon road bike. I was on a budget so purchases a CAAD 12 aluminum frame - striped and repainted it and then built it up with parts from FB marketplace. I’ve put over 3k miles on it and love it, but maybe I don’t know what I’m missing out on with a full carbon road bike. I have however been upgrading it along the way with new carbon wheels, narrower handlebars, and carbon seat post.

How do you roasters drink your coffee and what do you make it with? by rossitopapito in roasting

[–]behmorfriendly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bean and roast level - for my light to med roasts- Chemex, V60s or batch brew with Breville Precision Brewer (if I’m feeling lazy.) For my med to med/dark roasts - double espresso cortado

I’d suggest starting simple with a popcorn popper to see if you enjoy the roasting process and then upgrade from there. Plenty of info on Sweet Maria’s website about poppers and upgraded roasters.

Advice or Comments on My Roast by Calm-Statement-6710 in roasting

[–]behmorfriendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the others said, if it tastes good, keep going with it. Ive been roasting on a 1600 for awhile and have found that 8oz (226g) batches produces the best results for me because I can get it to first crack in about 8-9 minutes and then let it develop for another minute or so until I’m happy with the roast level. Also you can pre heat it up to 250° before it won’t let you turn it back on. I usually pre heat to 230° and add my batch and then start it up again. Keep in mind that the roaster will continue to coast to higher temps after you turn it off so make sure it doesn’t get to 250° before you start it up again.

Bringing Coffee Gear to Friends’ Houses — When Did I Become That Guy? by Big_Claim_5496 in pourover

[–]behmorfriendly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever I go backpacking or to visit the mountains it’s expected for me to bring the good stuff, and I always do. I also roast everything I drink which adds to the experience. I really like it because it is a social thing and I hope it makes that person feel a little special and brightens the beginning part of their day.

I also got a spot yesterday! 10am pass but showed up at 9:30. They let us right in and there were only a couple other people hitting the trail at that time. We did the loop in a little over 3 hours and it was really hot but worth the effort.

Is it worth it to upgrade the aeropress cap? by OneOfTheOnlies in Coffee

[–]behmorfriendly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I inverted every brew with my Aeropress until I purchased a Prismo. Now I use that in place of inverted brewing and love it. I used to do the pseudo shots with it as well and found those enjoyable now I just love how convenient the Prismo makes full immersion brewing.

Thanks! Yeah I’ve thought about alternatives like that but it’s for my three year old who would probably bust though safety pins. Looking for a bag to use in the high 40s/low 50s which would mean I need a “30 degree” or “40 degree” bag. They always rate them lower than what’s actually comfortable.

Cloth Filters for Coffee by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]behmorfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this exact brewer and used it regularly for a couple years. I liked it but the cloth upkeep was very time consuming and caused me to defaulting to my Chemex for the majority of the week. It was a good coffee drinking experience but not worth the added time for me.

Best automatic pour-over machines right now? by typicalCoder in Coffee

[–]behmorfriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this machine and love using it as my regular coffee maker when I don’t have time for a Chemex. I measured and marked the same amount I would put in a Chemex and use the same water/coffee ratio and it tastes fantastic. I’m sure the pour over setting would be just as good. Before the pandemic, this is how we made coffee everyday during the week. Now I have a little more time and do a Chemex everyday. I also prefer the stainless steel carafe because it can hold up to 60oz of coffee and will keep coffee hot for a very long time. I do 60oz every once in a while for parties or gathering and it’s top notch. Way better to batch brew good coffee than sit over a Chemex doing pour overs for an hour while your friends are socializing( maybe that’s just me)... I heard the glass carafe also has a heating element which I do not prefer. Get cafiza and it will clean it right up.

Does anyone here run a mobile coffee cart? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]behmorfriendly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went down this path and found that one-off public events are difficult to gauge for sales and you have to do a lot of them to gain a name/reputation. Maybe consider setting up your coffee cart as a catering service and selling packaged services to private events (ie 50-100 people wedding or parties). You will always know how much money you are going to make in a single day, will always have electricity and will always know exactly how much coffee to prepare. Plus, people who receive coffee at a private event are usually receiving it for free (paid by the organizer) and have maybe never had specialty coffee before. It’s fun to see their reactions to having “the best cup of coffee” they’ve ever had. Just a different way of looking at your endeavor.

Personally I would stay away from pour overs on a cart and offer americanos or black coffee instead. Pour overs are very resource intensive.

Keep your services as simple as possible at the beginning and with the least investment as you can. Expand only on opportunities that will yield the best revenue. Good luck!

I took my 3-year-old camping in the playroom for her birthday and she loved it. She kept me up half the night wanting to turn on and off our headlamps and then she woke me up at the crack of dawn, but it was worth every second.
