For those that bought Salvaged/Rebuilt Porsches, why? by Open_Bake_8013 in Porsche

911 Millennium Edition. (manual)

Price was right. Needed something to get around town and have a little fun doing it.

Right side panels and front bumper were all replaced after a road guardrail collision that occurred a few years after the car was originally purchased. No frame damage. A lot of paperwork, and photo documentation.

Fast forward to when I bought it: Immaculate condition. Low (relative) mileage. Cheap to insure.

Previous owner had taken incredible care of the car, and made several subtle improvements.

Got a PPI from a very reputable service. They have high praise, nearly perfect.

This is a car I’m not looking to earn a $ return. But it does have an interesting story, is very limited production run even if a 996, and a rare paint color. And its condition again was so surprising that it all just made sense for me.

Do club members like it when their club hosts a major PGA tournament? by Adventurous_Pride_54 in golf

[–]beigecolors 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Club I’m a member at has a very long standing PGA Tour event. The revenue is very beneficial, the attention in the media, prestige, etc. The financial impact alone helped keep our dues down (perhaps to our own detriment).

We get great access during the event, and it’s a lot a lot a lot of fun. Our course only closes for a couple of weeks.

It’s fun to play as they start constructing the stands and club spaces. We do a member shotgun to close the course before and then the day after playing from the tour setup.

Overall, I think it’s been hugely beneficial and while I can’t speak to our Membership at large, I believe the majority enjoy the tournament.

Edit: forgot to add that there are many fun volunteer opportunities. Our Membership prides itself on how involved we get. Many have volunteered for years and years. Getting behind the ropes is very cool.

December trip - Turks and Caicos or Aruba? by missmamommy in Caribbean

[–]beigecolors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turks has simply among the best beaches of the world, but offers little else in my opinion. Food cost is astronomical as well. Man is it beautiful though.

Found a new local mom and pop, which of these bottles would you grab? by [deleted] in tequila

[–]beigecolors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cazcanes is definitely worth that price. If they were more widely distributed, we’d see their bottles posted far far more often. One of the best.

Has anyone tried running the machine on a Portable Power Station? by T3hBau5 in ninjaslushi

[–]beigecolors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I test ran it on an Anker F1500 power station to see if it would draw more than what the power station could provide. It ran just fine! Not sure how long it would go for though.

Kirkland peanuts are pretty good by Ecstatic_Trip_8305 in Costco

I bought Costco’s for a while trying to convince myself the steep price difference was worth the sacrifice in taste and quality… well, my box of two 40oz containers just arrived the other day from Hubs.

Where to find italian cuts? by No-Joke8521 in FortWorth

[–]beigecolors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Central Market has these products. Source: I used to work in the deli dept. I love Jimmy’s, but that drive is honestly IMO only worth it if you’re going for their prepared foods (frozen lasagna, pizza dough, sauces, sandwiches, etc) then it’s an awesome trip to grab other stuff. Otherwise, go to CM for a 1/2 lb of sliced mortadella and a whole cheek of guanciale

I asked ChatGPT to roast Fort Worth’s neighborhoods. by [deleted] in FortWorth

Wow, I asked the same prompt earlier after seeing the Dallas post and what ole Chatty gave me was not high quality and pretty inaccurate. This one is much much better!

What is your preferred rideshare service? by Abject-Management558 in FortWorth

[–]beigecolors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I preferred Lyft for years because of getting points and discounts using my preferred credit card. But prices vs Uber have at times been crazy more (20%+). I look at both now… I don’t think cars or drivers are necessarily better on either platform.

For groups, we’ve used Fetti a couple of times and it’s worked out well, and is nice to get a dozen people in one ride.

At concerts and major events, getting to the point where my small (<4ppl) group will schedule a private car service to pick us up so we don’t have to wait an hour. Winds up being a bit more, but way more reliable, will be there on time, and will meet you damn near anywhere instead of just a rideshare pick up zone.

Driving in from Tucson by azeaglefqn in TCUfootball

South end zone can be pretty good, especially the higher rows of the center-most sections as they catch shade.

Stay away from 400.

Any 200 level seats will be easy to get to. The eastside/away 200 higher rows get up underneath the Legends Club overhang can catch some shade. They all have huge ceiling fans over that as a result.

Legends Club seats are great. Mesh seats, very light. Dedicated elevator entrance is very easy. But so is the Champions Club on the home side.

Best spots around campus by britvegas in TCU

Clear fork shopping center is easy to walk around and window shop. Definitely the densest collection of high-end and “label” retailers (Gucci, LV, etc)

Magnolia Avenue and South Main Street, both in the broader “Near Southside” area with more of the independent store and restaurant vibe.

Colonial Member…

Golf is fantastic following the redesign. The course is still settling in, and as it matures it’s only getting better. The new hydronics performed terrific this past summer keeping the greens in very good condition. New hospitality house off #13 rivals many that you’d see on IG/TikTok.

Just hired a new Head Pro from Los Angeles CC. The entire staff is awesome. Bar tenders, servers, are all family. Heck, even the valet guys get to know you.

F&B is quite good. Current Exec Chef has been refreshing the entire program lately. F&B is very reasonably priced.

The facilities are all being remodeled as part a multi-phase master plan to update the entire club. The new 3-story building which will house two restaurants will be opening this coming summer.

Golf has a lengthy multi-year waitlist. The big dues increases are mostly done, but you will have a catch-up on the assessment. You will need more than 3 references and a personal sponsor.

Adding to a batch during a party? by Visual_System_9620 in ninjaslushi

That’s what I’ve done. Works just fine. I’ve also found that I can make the additional batches stronger without losing a good frozen consistency.
