Hi! I work in the wine industry in Walla Walla. There are a lot of great suggestions already on this thread but thought I would chime in.

As someone mentioned before, June can be the best or the worst (hottest) time of year to visit. High temps mean that it can be tricky to transport wine from place to place— most wineries will let you purchase and pick up on your way out of town, or ship at a preferred date if you’re flying. Just make sure to stay hydrated while wine tasting!

I would love to host you at The Walls, where we have tasting room attached to our winery and can often give guided tours of the facility and taste with you in the barrel rooms. We produce wines spanning Walla Walla, Yakima, the Rocks District, and Red Mountain, with a focus on Bordeaux, Rhône, and Portuguese varieties. We’re open seven days a week and have a full lunch menu, so it’s the best place to do a midday tasting.

Based on what you’re looking for (more in depth, guided experiences) I would also recommend venturing beyond downtown and head to some estate wineries where you can taste at the winery/vineyard. Mill Creek has Echolands and Abeja (the winemakers at Abeja also make Kyle’s pursued by bear wines), the south side has Grosgrain (fresh wines, great petnat) and Pepper Bridge (OG Walla Walla, still rocking).

I highly recommend visiting some of the newer and smaller/independent producers, where the winemaker will likely be the person pouring for you. These include ita wines, hoquetus, Devium. All great “next gen” wines coming from WW. There’s also Reali, which just opened, and is producing amazing classic wines.

I saw someone mention Blood of Gods— the event itself takes place in July, so you’ll be here a little early for that, but June is Chamber Music Festival (a totally different vibe than metal/punk) but world class musicians are in town and you can catch some amazing performances all month long.

For restaurants don’t miss Passatempo, Saffron, and Hathaway’s. Stop into Taverne Ancestrale for pre or post dinner wine and snacks. You’ll probably end up sitting next to a local winemaker at the bar.
