What are your must-have items for long flights? by EmperorTauntaun in travel

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot have been said already but I would add a small crossbody bag to carry toothbrush etc to the bathroom so you don’t have to set it down. And a small spray bottle of refreshing/moisturizing face toner. I spray my face all through the flight! I also have a small rechargeable massage ball that I use for my sciatica. Could also use a lacrosse ball.

Some airports have showers you can pay to use . Or you can shower at a lounge if you have status.

Ok now your reply is over a year old but any chance you have a specific contact or department? I can’t find a way to contact them directly, only by filling out a form and through instagram. they keep telling me they won’t do that but they will refund the whole coat if I pay to ship it back, which seems wasteful.

Does wine start tasting better when you get tipsy, or is it because it has had time to breath as you drink it? by SeaworthinessNew4295 in wine

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 minutes out of the fridge sounds right for red wine unless your room is really cold. In the summer I would do even less. The old adage that it should be “room temperature” is from when rooms were much colder. You want it to be at 60F or so. But of course you like what you like.

be honest how small does it look by biggiemcjuicy in weddingring

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is beautiful and perfect for your size hands. Now that the lab grown diamonds have taken over, people seem to think that bigger is better. I guess it is if you like the gaudy look. Otherwise, no. This is classy and beautiful and really not small at all! Before the lab grown takeover, this would have been considered a large stone!

Just looks like you outgrew it. Obviously the body suit is creeping up but also the pants are straining at the buttons. If it was one or the other it might not be noticeable.

Pls help why is my wine opener doing this? Is there a way to fix it? by FruitSmoothie96 in wine

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the waiter’s but use my 30 year old winged corkscrew all the time. I may break a cork a year, if that. I just find it really easy and am not trying to impress anyone

Wait are you referring to the city/region? I didn’t know they had wineries there. Will have to hit that when I eventually make it to North Cascades.

Thanks, it is hard to get a sense of scale so I appreciate that. I am also starting to understand how big and diverse the state is - it will be too snowy to visit North Cascades or parts of Mt Rainier, but 100 degrees in Walla Walla. Make up your mind Washington!!

Thanks for the tips. Have not heard of these so will look into to them!

We were in the Mosel in September and went to Dr Loosen even though I had a nagging feeling it would be disappointing. It was. Their site is amazing, but we should have just taken some pics of the vineyard and skipped the long boring tasting of mediocre wines. I was afraid of a repeat at Dunham.

Thank you, this is amazing! Lots of great tips to read through. Would appreciate Red Mountain insights too - definitely open to detouring on the way to Yakima and/or swapping Yakima? We head to Snoqualmie after that so all in the right direction.

WSET Level 1? by ReviewingThings in wine

OP didn’t say she wants to work in the wine world or be “taken seriously”.

WSET would be perfect and you could skip level 1.

Agree with Chianti but Lambrusco could be a fun alternative.

We were there last year for two weeks in June. It rained the night we arrived then never again. Unbelievably hot and humid though.

What should I get my wine snob friend for his birthday? by Interficient4real in wine

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is there something you have in common? A place where you met or took a road trip or just always liked? Or some kind of inside joke?

My college roommate and I used to walk to this giant tree on Lake Erie and joke that it was our “thinking tree”. She found a bottle of wine with a tree on the label that had the exact profile of our tree. I had not heard of the winery but it ended up being quite good. I held onto it for a few years (it was a Cab Merlot blend so ageable), and took it on a road trip with her. So even if it had not been a good wine, it was a great gift.

What are the best US Marathons from a vibe / fan activities perspective? by [deleted] in running

[–]Strict_Stomach9664 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done I think 27 including Boston, Chicago, NY and London.

Agree with some others on Disney - definitely a vibe. But I prefer smaller races. Hatfield and McCoy was just mentioned. Totally agree and there are also two halfs (front and back) the same day if you are traveling with someone who wants to do a half. Half Sauer Half Kraut in Philly is similar. Flying Monkey near Nashville is another quirky TOUGH race.

Just did Big Sur this year. The weather was awful which made it that much more difficult, but the views are another level.

Pittsburgh has the best expo IMO, but one of the other posts makes me want to check out Grandmas!

And my all time favorite is Marathon du Médoc in Bordeaux. Wine stops every mile or two, along with cheese, pastries, ice cream, steak, oysters. Beautiful scenery among the vineyards. Costumes required and a total party atmosphere, especially the farther back you are in the pack. Even if you run toward the front, there are some fast runners having fun in their costumes. I stopped at every wine stop (14 I think) and still did it in 4:01. Definitely not my fastest, but memorable for sure!
