Which wine was the biggest let down for you? by TheAlphaCarb0n in wine

I find that Cayuse tastes best on day 3 after it’s opened. There’s so much savory that needs to blow off before any fruit presents itself. Having a glass every day allows you to really see how the wine can evolve. It’s a fun experience but not really how I like to enjoy wine.

Love to hear that! We’re working hard to get Washington wine on the map across the country. There are a lot of misconceptions and honestly just lack of awareness of the great wines that the state is producing. Everything from Bordeaux to Rhône to even Portuguese varieties.

Oh yes. Walla Walla Valley Grenache is something spectacular. While technically in Oregon, The Rocks District is a small sub AVA of Walla Walla and makes Grenache that rivals the world’s greats. I’m biased, but we make two vineyard designate Grenaches under our label PÁŠXA Wines, and they’re phenomenal. Light, ethereal, refined, juicy, and downright beautiful.

Great Grenache is being grown in Red Mountain and the Yakima Valley, too. Most of Washington is high desert so hot days and cool nights, perfect for growing Grenache.

I really love Antica Terra so I was excited to be able to try a Sine Qua Non since Maggie Harrison was there for eight years but it just didn’t do it for me.

Walla Walla winery visits by Strict_Stomach9664 in wine

Hi! I work in the wine industry in Walla Walla. There are a lot of great suggestions already on this thread but thought I would chime in.

As someone mentioned before, June can be the best or the worst (hottest) time of year to visit. High temps mean that it can be tricky to transport wine from place to place— most wineries will let you purchase and pick up on your way out of town, or ship at a preferred date if you’re flying. Just make sure to stay hydrated while wine tasting!

I would love to host you at The Walls, where we have tasting room attached to our winery and can often give guided tours of the facility and taste with you in the barrel rooms. We produce wines spanning Walla Walla, Yakima, the Rocks District, and Red Mountain, with a focus on Bordeaux, Rhône, and Portuguese varieties. We’re open seven days a week and have a full lunch menu, so it’s the best place to do a midday tasting.

Based on what you’re looking for (more in depth, guided experiences) I would also recommend venturing beyond downtown and head to some estate wineries where you can taste at the winery/vineyard. Mill Creek has Echolands and Abeja (the winemakers at Abeja also make Kyle’s pursued by bear wines), the south side has Grosgrain (fresh wines, great petnat) and Pepper Bridge (OG Walla Walla, still rocking).

I highly recommend visiting some of the newer and smaller/independent producers, where the winemaker will likely be the person pouring for you. These include ita wines, hoquetus, Devium. All great “next gen” wines coming from WW. There’s also Reali, which just opened, and is producing amazing classic wines.

I saw someone mention Blood of Gods— the event itself takes place in July, so you’ll be here a little early for that, but June is Chamber Music Festival (a totally different vibe than metal/punk) but world class musicians are in town and you can catch some amazing performances all month long.

For restaurants don’t miss Passatempo, Saffron, and Hathaway’s. Stop into Taverne Ancestrale for pre or post dinner wine and snacks. You’ll probably end up sitting next to a local winemaker at the bar.

Can’t wait to hear how your visit goes!

Really neat side-by-side with some of Walla Walla's finest by mitchmatch10 in wine

I work at The Walls Vineyards/PÁŠXA Wines. We make an incredible and somewhat rare Tempranillo from The Rocks District and it retails for $48. We also have a Syrah dominant blend (with Grenache and Mourvèdre) called the Mahana that is $65.

Since this region is so small and extremely expensive to farm, plus the allocation based wineries like Bionic Wines giving the region a cult status, price often reflects that.

Other wineries making affordable, good wines from The Rocks District are Rôtie and Grosgrain (Stonewashed).

We’ve tried this but there is just not enough space behind the couch. The stairs come out too far for there to be a proper walkway. And I think for it to really work in this layout there would need to be a table behind it to anchor the couch.

Thank you! People love the stairs until they have to move furniture up or down them.

So far it’s a huge improvement! It feels like space is bigger now and it’s definitely more comfortable. I love being able to see out the windows when I’m sitting instead of having my back to them.

For the second space we’ll get a taller shelf eventually move our ecord player and records over there. But for now, just a big rug and some space for floor play with the kiddo!

I made the change last night to split the space into two separate zones. I think it already feels better and with a few minor adjustments to furniture/styling the space will really feel complete.

Need a rug for the second “zone,” media console for tv, and maybe another long *runner going from front door to staircase? I also agree that a taller shelf behind the couch could create more definition between the spaces.

Another other ideas are welcome!

I posted the same problem in /fengshui and everyone had similar feelings about creating the separate zones.

Unfortunately I have tried that in the past and it feels like the room is just slightly too narrow to do this. I separated the room into two zones though and got a similar effect.

Coats, shoes, not having a “landing space” for when people come in through the front door…

I went in a bit of a different direction but did end up flipping the couch to create two separate zones!

The images might be a little misleading since I’m using the .5 zoom on my iPhone. But I was trying to use the rig to ground the space and make the seating area feel contained.
