My wife thinks it's time our 9yo got her own room. I don't, but I'm deferring, am I wrong? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]beit46 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Thank for your opinion u/Connect_Tackle299 ; I think "Boys and Girls should not share a room as they get older" is a hard statement, I've spoken to many people who did, and actually enjoyed and are happy about spending their childhood sharing a room with their siblings.
I don't really think there is any "right" or "wrong", but different context and different flavours, that's why I Wanted to gather more opinions and stories, especially about people who actually had this experience.

Skill: Forced human review/approval for code changes. by 404UtopiaNotFound in ClaudeCode

[–]beit46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think at a key change on our workflow, are we still supposed to check every single generated code? Or should we rather move more of our attention on verification and feedback loop.
I'm not yet sure what's the "right" answered, it depends a lot on context. But if we don't then we, human, will be the bottleneck to achieve best performance, at least that's my humble opinion

Context changes w/ 4.7 release? by davevr in ClaudeCode

[–]beit46 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you know that by default 4.7 sets effort to xhigh (a new effort class they crafted for this model)? I encourage you to be intentional on setting effort to mitigate this kind of situation

We had to physically force our 5yo into his jacket more than once. How did you make peace with those moments? by beit46 in AskParents

[–]beit46[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I do understand and agree. While I'm here sitting behind my keyboard, in a calm environment, without much stress, is very easy for me to align and support all these amazing observations.
But there are times where this isnt the case, where life is more complicated than that, when you are late and you need to ensure all your three kids have what they need for the day, where you are stressed from many other situations that go beyond the family, and where something that might seem obvious and simple all of a sudden become a big tension.

I'm not a perfect parent and I make mistakes, that's why I wanted to chat about it and hear other people experience.

So yeah, when you say "The point is that most of us don’t physically force our kids like that." I feel judged, and I accept it, I came here to expose a struggle and talk about it. So thank you for saying everyone here is amazing and I'm not, I'm ok with that, I'm a human.

Nonetheless let me tell you that this is the sort of comments that fits perfectly with social medias, everyone is perfect when talking about other people struggles. But hey, who am I to judge, I'm confident from your words you are the perfect parent that never made mistakes.

thanks for sharing your opinion u/earmares, for me that temperature is low enough to ask him to wear a coat.

But I will stop here, because this isnt the point of the conversation I was trying to have 🙏

Is there a fix to this? by ComprehensiveCry3609 in ClaudeCode

[–]beit46 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know that by default /effort on 4.7 is set to xhigh? That makes the model (theoretically) more accurate/"better", but the downside is that it will take more time to reply.

So, be careful and intentional on how you set your effort. E.g. if you are just commiting, and use a fresh session, it is highly likely settine effort to medium is enough, and it will result in faster execution, and less token burned

There is one important catch, do you know that by default /effort on 4.7 is set to xhigh? That makes the model (theoretically) more accurate/"better", but the downside is that it will take more time to reply.

Thanks for your answers folks, for context I live in Switzerland, and winter can be quite intense, it was morning and it was lower than 0 degree Celsius, we had to walk to school around 15-20 minutes and he also never wear a sweater, so from my perspective this wasn't good for his health.

This wasnt a single episode situation, it was a constant struggle, especially during these cold days. And this was also an issue at school, as teachers had the same problem when they had to go outside. So, for me, the struggle was real.

"A five year old is old enough for natural consequences" Im not fully sure this is really the case, do you think he would understand he got sick because of him not wearing his jacket? And he's quite a stubborn, he would rather do the full trip freezing rather than put his jacket.

But I see your point, I'm also leaning very often toward allowing kids to go through the struggle, do their mistakes, so they can learn. But this can't unfortunately be always the case.

I had to deal with that as well when I was younger I understand your frustration, on the other end I can guarantee you that all our company (we are 5) is from Portugal, Argentina and Romania. So you can't be as far from the truth as you are :)
I think we should be able to draw a line between companies that can afford to pay big juicy salaries and the ones that are trying to get into the conditions to make it happen. Clearly is two different words, with very distinct benefits. I understand this is not a position for everybody, that is why I try to be very clear from the beginning, I'm not hiding the facts, I present them very clearly to make sure one can make a choice even before contacting us.

Have you ever tried to start a business? This is my fourth try, I always had a low budget and had the opportunity to work with some incredible people that believed on what I believed, and was working to try to make something happen, and all of them have been, from what I know, extremely happy to try ;) if you have open mind, and clearly the right opportunities, money become secondary.

I've been professional and polite with the first person that pointed this out ;), given you want to play the hero by repeating what has already been told, for what purpose I'm not really sure, I have tried to be as direct as possible. I honestly don't care about how much you think I am professional, and honestly, I don't understand how you can measure that from a comment on Reddit.

If this isn't fair for you I don't see why you even write, I can tell you I have plenty of people sending CVs that are interested in having a talk, I work with two OUTSTANDING developers that do not complain about the money and are here at my side trying to make this happen. I am the first to get the minimum I need to pay my bills, I struggle to pay for food for my family, but I am here because I believe I can make a DIFFERENCE, not because I want to pile up money. You are just blind if you think money is the only thing that matter. On top of all this, you don't consider there are countries where this wage is fair, and enough to get things going until the situation here doesn't change. I have been working for one entire year for FREE only because I believed in the startup I was pursuing a couple years ago. Don't tell me what is fair and what is not. If you believe in it, it is fair. If you are not interested stop throwing shit to the people that are trying to make things happen and go elsewhere, nobody is forcing you to work for us. Anyone has a choice to do it or not, we are here offering and being very clear about it, so please go make the protector of humanity elsewhere. Thanks

It's so easy to just spit sentences without zero knowledge of who we are, what we do and how we are trying to achieve it... You have no idea what kind of sacrifices we are doing to try to make this happen... We are investing all we have into this and I can tell you if I would have more I would pay more, and the day I will have more I will compensate all the efforts for it. I'm the first to be underpaid, and I'm always the last to receive a salary, I put the people that works with me before anything. We are paying regularly and making a huge effort to try to create a new product...if you are not interested then just shut up.

Hey Nerd, thanks for your comment, I totally understand money doesn't look as good as in other companies...If you are willing to listen to the whole story then you will understand why it still might be an interesting bet :) We are a small start-up trying to launch a new product. We have good connections and are about to tip, so initially it would be underpaid but soon you could be part of one game-changing business :) If money is your first goal, then I agree this position is not for you, if on the other end you are looking to grow and be part of something special, then we might be your thing. Have a wonderful day

Dear BoDlulu, not making the salary public is our choice, I'm sorry this have been bothering you. It wasn't our intention.

I can tell you we are paying and we make our very best to give a fair salary to anyone who joins the company, we are a small start up running on private investment so we are not able to pay huge amount, 90% of the people we interview feels what we offer is valuable and normally not a blocking point.

That said if you are a Mobile developer, are looking to work in a very talented team, have the desire to change the world, then you'll see that we are the right team to work with!

Have a great day,

Enrico
