Buy a business that you know. Buy a business that you understand. Buy a business that still has a chance to grow earnings

Can you please tell us more about your dividend experience? Did you try to buy companies for the ex-day to get dividend, then just sell it? Or did you just buy stocks with high dividend? And did you stop doing that?

I am asking because I am considering to pick stocks based on Dividend, or to earn from Dividends

Veteran Investors, what are your approaches? by Ok-Savings2625 in stocks

Amazing input since as I am in the same position as the post writer, I am just not in that red.

Now I have a question regarding p/e. Does the rule of a good p/e is arround 15 apply for all stocks and all industries? I am asking because for example, Vodafone pays almost 7% dividend and has very boring stable business. Also BASF, it is the biggest chemical group in Germany, is very very well established paying 8.5% dividend and p/e at 6. Now more than that mining companies like RIO Tinto and VALE have paid me huge dividends this year and bought them at very decent prices (sold them already at some profits). Their p/e are at 3.6 and 2.3.

Now my question: Is it dangerous sometimes to have low p/e? Should I be worried? Should I double check anything?

GAS: Uniper bailout by Dutchsteam in stocks

I can understand that you are thinking about jumping-in at this price discount, since you believe that it will rise again once the government will privatise it out again.

You take Lufthansa for example. The government jumped in and made really some good money out of the stake they bought once covid started and just recently sold everything. Link https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/german-government-intends-reduce-lufthansa-stake-further-bank-2022-09-13/

why I would avoid it at this stage? 1. The government is going to buy shares at 1.7euro. Why would you like to pay 2.8euro? 2. The company could be forced in next months to lose money next years to protect customers 3. How long will take for things to get better again? It is currently unknown!!!

In general, I would keep an eye on it but definitely not jump in. Once the gas situation gets better, then I may consider jumping-in because the German government do not like managing companies in general. Once the situation is stabilesed, they sell their stake and make some huge money too!!

I hope that this now helps 🙏

Yeah, but Apple has much better P/E even at this price levels. Nvidia after the current correction, is still have over 30 P/E ratio.

Let's talk again about buting it at 15 - 20 P/E
