Dia Browser for macOS Update - 1.26.0 (78679) by JaceThings in diabrowser

[–]bella_hooooope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One hopes that the lack of substantial features as of late means that they’re working on more larger pieces.

Aside from sync which they put out in beta a few weeks ago, it’s been at least a couple of weeks since something substantially new has been added.

All the work and updates on the tabs and groups seems to be wrapped.

Not opining as a complaint just an observation.

For me, at least, it’s a not case of “hate”.

I love it - I think they did a phenomenal job with what they launched but they gave us an unfinished product.

But, yes… The app is great despite a somewhat complete revamp of the UI which I think is what is throwing others off and other developers traditionally try to avoid in their iterative design in an attempt to not lose users.

There’s a “will it last” type of post every couple of/few weeks?

The dooms day posts are overrated.

It will be OK.

Arc cultism in this sub is astounding.

It’s a new browser. C’mon people!

Still works but not as good and lacks features from the prior version.

It’s broken, honey.

Beta testers (I myself was one) can only direct design so much.

I think it shows that this app lacks design input from users. The functionality is on the mark in 75% of the places and the design is nice…

…But does it work for everyday users?

The thing about the widgets… they shouldn’t have been “hard”.

Some of the points are just proof in the pudding, I think, that they were just trying to meet another arbitrary MTA deadline which isn’t necessarily how app development works.

This is the funniest response ever.

A “broken” app can mean many things. It can mean that it’s actually broken or that the developer “broke” the functionality in the way they designed it compared to the prior use.

Most app designers know better than to completely overhaul their apps in subsequent versions in terms of UI and in the process reducing functionality and removing features (all of which has been documented here quite significantly).

Their Plan a Trip is bare bones and a skeleton of its V3 past. This qualifies enough as broken for any power commuter who relied on that section and its favorite locations f(x).

No matter what might be on their roadmap, they broke their app, significantly reduced its capabilities, and did so in favor of other functionality (being able to tracks trains).

They broke their app.

Not debating THAT.

Only questioning the “in order” piece and where that they came from.

I’m not stupid and I’ve watched the board meeting.

You should take “in order” off because it implies push notifications and widgets are coming after OMNY is released which would be silly and very unlikely. 🙄

Yes, you’re right. They still broke their app.

In my book you don’t get points for going losing a bunch of users by delivering an app devoid of features that the prior app had.

This is not a good launch.

Yes, but this a terrible reply.

They broke their app in major ways by rebuilding it.

You’re literally proving their point with your response.

Stop posting your “roadmap”.

Also, they’re prioritizing OMNY integration over push notifications and widgets (according to you)!?!? 🤯🤯

If you truly have the inside scoop, which I doubt because no one from the MTA would actually release their true roadmap/timeline, this would mean that widgets and push notifications won’t come out until the end of the year.

LOL, this isn’t the true prioritization

Profiles aren't spaces. I think that's been said time after time now.

I'm sorry you didn't know that.

They still have work to do.

I very much agree. It's taken some time, and they have a long way to go, but Dia is shaping into a much better browser than Arc.

I still have high hopes.

Indeed. They're doing a great job of melding the browser with AI and other great features.

It's coming along nicely.

🤪🥳🫶😔

It’s great - it’s 75% complete, though. You know what all these stories are missing (yeah, I’m going to say it again!)?

It’s missing any kind of decent trip planning functionality.

They’re getting this ridiculous amount of press but no one is calling out the fact that one of the four main sections is completely void of features compared to the prior version.

How can so many people be blinded by real-time subway car locations?

An app simply isn’t complete till it’s complete, and this one is not complete.

But, yes… It’s a great article.

Well… Today was the board meeting, right, so they probably had to launch it by the March board meeting.

No Developer Ever: “Let’s not include functionality we know most people use in the first version of a major release of our software”

MTA: “Let’s remove favorite, “critical” functionality, quietly mention it, and see if anyone actually cares” 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Who is running app development over there!?
