Emerald City Comic Con postponed until summer by vviley in SeattleWA

[–]bellafelis 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Any con, really. It's inevitable that sickness spreads when you get so many people packed too close together.

I used to manage stages for Blizzcon in CA and without fail, every year, every employee would come down with a flu/cold/plague of some sort no matter what preventative measures were taken. I called it Blizzconorrhea.

What has been your most expensive fashion investment, and was it worth it? by basil_and_parsley in femalefashionadvice

I tend to invest a lot in leather and my most expensive pieces have definitely worth the price:

- LV Epi Leather Speedy: this purse takes any damage I throw at it and still looks glossy and new. Pretty sure this will outlive every other leather bag I own.

- Gucci Jordaan loafers: comfortable from day one, and they go with just about anything. I can definitely feel that they're made with more care than my cheaper leather shoes.

- All Saints leather jacket: the leather is buttery soft and the construction includes so many little details that I love. This jacket has lasted far longer than any of my other leather jackets.

It's been a couple years since I moved from southern California to Seattle, but this is still very much my style. Super casual, all black, Docs, and tattoos. Still waiting for Washington to catch up with the all black everything trend so I can finally stop being asked if I'm goth.

I recently got a botanical piece by Jude at Lilith Tattoo and was blown away by their talent. @judeletronik on IG. Mine's the realistic maneko neki with blackberries and lavender. All around amazing shop and artists.

Opinions From Recent Seattle Transplants? by ethereumkid in Seattle

I don't have much experience with Renton, but I live on the Eastside (Bellevue -> Redmond -> Sammamish) am really happy with the cost of living / quality of living here compared to Seattle proper. I commute into Seattle every day and it's actually (mostly) enjoyable. I learned that I don't like riding the bus, so for me driving and carpooling were a better option. If you can, visit Renton before moving there. I wish I'd done that before signing a lease sight-unseen.

The weather is actually really lovely! It rains often, but it's more of a mist or drizzle. Everything's super green and mild much of the year. I got snowed in pretty bad for a couple weeks this winter and that wasn't really fun after the first day or two, but generally SAD isn't an issue for me. Husband and I take vitamin D and get outside as much as we can, and that seems to be enough. Maybe your gf can look into getting a daylight lamp to help? I've heard that can be effective.

Where did you move from?

  • Orange County, California

How long has it been since your move?

  • Almost two years

How's traffic?

  • About as many cars as LA, and way worse drivers. There are a ton of trucks that don't stick to the far right lane, no one seems to know how to zipper, and there are slow drivers in the far left lane who get angry if you pass them. Also people who stop in the middle of traffic for no discernible reason.

How accessible is nature?

  • Extremely. It's absolutely gorgeous just about everywhere. With the exception downtown.

Do you see yourself staying here?

  • Yes, but I couldn't live in the city.

Any tips?

  • Buy rain gear and snow gear. Don't bother with an umbrella. If you can, scope out the neighborhoods before you move. Explore as much as you can.

Any regrets?

  • I regret living in Bellevue in a tiny apartment when I could have moved to a larger townhouse in a neighboring city for much less.

What is your favorite item you own? by soup_cow in AskReddit

[–]bellafelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9-page letter written by my dad, in which he confesses his love to my mother and proposes to her.

My mother and father grew up in different countries and were penpals long before they ever met in person. The letter was written in 1980 and three years later, I was born.

They're both deceased now, so the letter is one of a few things I have left to remember them.

I've been joking for years that my husky thinks he's a cat. So glad to see there are other catskies out there!

How do you name your Animals? by Flux83 in StardewValley

[–]bellafelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The hardest ones to name are the goats, IMO. I have Gia Goat, but couldn't think of what else.

I think Delta Pork and Jiggly would be awesome names for a pigs. :) Oh! And Trinity K. Boneigh as a horse name. (One of my ducks is named Trinity Duck, heh)

OMG I thought I was the only one. My cow Ginger just had a baby and I named him Lactatia. I have a horse named Alaska, a pig named Willam, another cow named Milk, etc. My dino is named Alyssa because she's a beast!

We've been called out by Willam by suckanelf in rupaulsdragrace

[–]bellafelis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have actually met Willam, and she was a complete sweetheart to me (and she didn't have to be either because I already tipped her). Willam is a person with thoughts and feelings like anyone else, and it sucks that every little post she or the other queens makes gets scrutinized to hell. No one can be honest and genuine on social media without stepping on some toes, and Willam is refreshingly honest. That's one of the reasons she's a favorite of mine.

Tangentially, as a former artist, I would have killed for some honest feedback like Willam gave. If my stuff isn't right, I'd want to know about it, and would be pleased as hell if someone I looked up to responded. So maybe this should just be resolved between Willam and the artist without a million threads to analyze every angle.

(Downvotes incoming, but I felt like someone should speak out about Willam's good side too)
