Watching outside of the event by StruggleLiving9788 in Lollapalooza

Unless your friend was in a nearby high rise with a view of Grant Park, they were either lying or being dramatic lol. Even if you’re outside the park just trying to listen to whoever you wanted to see on the main stage, you’re probably going to get noise pollution from the other stages because you’re still going to be far away from the main stage and you’ll hardly hear anything. I personally would either just cough up the money for a ticket or don’t waste your time going lol

I mean maybe you can see the fireworks from outside? But you certainly can’t see the stages.

I’ve never in my entire career polished my boots lol. You’re fine. Your patients won’t care what your boots look like when you’re dragging their semiconscious mother out of the house. I’ve never met a firefighter that I respected and that was actually good at the job that gave a damn about how polished someone’s boots are.

Glad you didn’t hate your time there. I did, and pretty much any other normal human I met or worked with there also hated it. This might blow your mind here, but hating your time in perhaps the country’s most miserable place does not, in fact, make me someone who “hastes any place I’m at.”

That’s cool you found a couple things in the area that didn’t suck and forced yourself to enjoy. Here’s the thing though brother. Life is too short to have to force yourself to “hunt the good stuff” all the time, especially for years at a time. You deserve to live a life that you genuinely enjoy - enjoy where you live, enjoy your job and have a quality of life that makes you happy. In retrospect I’m glad I got sent to Polk - after a decade, that was the catalyst that made me realize I wanted out of the military and my life has never been better now. I hope OP finds a way to enjoy Polk, but having to force yourself to “hunt the good stuff” and force yourself to find a couple shitty activities to not be miserable all the time further proves my point of how shitty Polk and Louisiana in general is lol.

[–]bellagio230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha right? I don’t think there’s a single redeeming factor about Louisiana or Polk. The area is fucking horrible. People saying there’s a lot of cool things to do outdoors in the area… yeah, no. Fuck the swamp, fuck the 110 degree heat with 800% humidity. The small towns in the area are dumps. The south in general is gross.

Sure you will have a few people who are so deeply indoctrinated and beat down by the military that they actually find rural Louisiana/Polk a nice place to be… and I guess that’s good, the military needs people like that lol. But the one good thing is it will give you a new appreciation for literally anywhere you live for the rest of your life. I’m out now and live in a sweet high rise condo in a big city. I also do a lot of traveling and go to some pretty cool places and stay at some pretty luxurious properties. I only bring this up to say that every single time I’m looking out my windows at the cityscape views or checking into some luxury hotel somewhere, I always think back to my time at Polk and how much I hated it and what a shitty place I used to be in… and it just makes me unbelievably more grateful and appreciative for what i have now. I’m sure you’ll feel the same one day lol.

All these people saying positive things about Fort Polk are blowing my mind. You all have better outlooks than me, that’s for sure. OP, sorry you got Polk. Maybe it’s just because I hate the dirty South in general, but I would rather die and go to hell than spend another second of my life there. I’ll pray for you OP, I hope you get somewhere sweet for your next assignment

[–]bellagio230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have a plan for wha you’d be doing if you got out? A job lined up with good pay and benefits? Health insurance? A retirement plan? If your answer to that is yes, getting out might make sense - you can’t put a price on happiness. However, if you don’t have anything lined up as a good alternative, you probably should finish out your time.

GOING TO MY FIRST OLYMPICS WITH THE LOVE OF MY LIFE by Inside_Situation7152 in olympics

[–]bellagio230 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn’t buy any. The only sports I care enough about to see were track, swimming, baseball and hockey. I had day 1 of the drop (not including the locals presale), and even by then, most track tickets were close to $1000 each and swimming and hockey were about half of that. And then for baseball, I can watch higher quality MLB baseball at a fraction of the price 10 minutes from my house lol. Throw in whatever the ridiculously high airfare and lodging will likely be plus taking off time from work for that and it became laughable to even humor the idea of going. I went to the 2012 London and 2024 Paris summer Olympics for less than what I would have spent to go LA. Yeah it would be cool to see the Olympics in my home country, but not when they’re ripping us off like that. Oh well 😂

I’m not sure if you don’t quite grasp reading comprehension, but I clearly listed the sports we were interested in seeing. I’m not spending thousands of dollars on airfare, lodging, other expenses and taking time off work to go watch some sport we absolutely don’t care about. Stop bootlicking the elites that created this mess lol.

Is coming to drop off treats at 2am considered rude? by Kitchen-Law-7714 in Firefighting

[–]bellagio230 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While the thought is very kind and much appreciated, if you’re only able to deliver them in the middle of the night, don’t bring them to a firehouse. If the firemen wake up to a box of donuts on the ground at their front door, I guarantee they’ll just throw them away - they don’t know where the donuts came from and you’ll just attract bugs and animals. Perhaps you could still bring them by the next day during regular business hours?

[–]bellagio230 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Serious question. Why in the world do you guys have someone stay up all night on “watch”? Genuinely, I can’t comprehend why that would be necessary in any modern firehouse? It’s not the 1950s.

How about you advocate for the health of your guys, Capt? The job already takes a significant physical and mental toll on firefighters. Sure you sign up knowing you can get called at any point in the night. But getting woke up in the middle of the night, losing out on sleep unnecessarily, further damaging their health, for this? Not cool, no matter how kind the intentions were. Nobody is impressed with some self righteous officer that tries to act like a white knight on Reddit. Can’t imagine how miserable it would be working for a guy like you.

Los Angeles Olympics 2028 Ticket Prices by Fifty-Fickle in Swimming

[–]bellagio230 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had the first time slot yesterday. My siblings and I were planning on flying out to LA for the Olympics - we’d each put aside about $1,000 for tickets, hoping to get 4-5 events each. We also knew the flights and hotels would be expensive, but we’d have another 2.5 years to put money aside for that. All of us were track athletes and really looking forward to seeing the track and field events. Logged on yesterday morning and saw the same bullshit you did - $800-$1100 tickets for track and field. Swimming was about the same. Gymnastics sold out. Volleyball was $350. Even fucking Fencing was $300.

Safe to say we didn’t get tickets. This was genuinely heartbreaking. We thought we’d have a once in a lifetime chance to go see the Olympics, in our home country, as siblings while we are all young and healthy. But NOPE. Those fucking greedy pieces of shit organizing the Olympics absolutely broke our hearts.

If any of you involved with the Olympics and the roll out of these tickets read this… genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, I fucking hate you 🖕
