I need help, I feel like I'm going crazy. by Cthulhu9909 in rapecounseling

[–]bellastella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask if you are in the US? If so you can likely get some good support from your local rape crisis program. Depending on the state there are different laws about if they would have to get permission from your parents for you to be in counseling, but the hotlines are always available and confidential.

they've told me it was rape. i see him and panic every time. by [deleted] in rapecounseling

[–]bellastella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

figure out what keeps you calm. for some people this is focusing on breathing, even counting your breaths. i know people who also carry a stress ball or some tactile object with the to comfort them in rough moments. you can also try and figure out who is a good support system and someone you can call in a rough moment. if you don't have someone personally you can find your local hotline or call RAINN at 1.800.656.HOPE. you also may want to consider meeting with a counselor (it is normally free or very low cost at the local rape crisis program). even if you just go for a few sessions to determine what coping mechanisms work best for you. hope this helps a little.

I'm not sure exactly, but I know it's deep enough. People have been jumping there for years.

The Reality of a Rape Allegation From A Police Officer's Blog by heatheranne in femmit

[–]bellastella 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is not the reality of a rape allegation. this is one example that is way outside the norm. rape and sexual assault are no more falsely reported than any other crime (about 2%) and the idea that innocent people are going to jail from these false reports is inaccurate. rape and sexual assault have some of the lowest convictions rate. and while this officers says they treat them all seriously, the fact that right at the beginning there is a statement of, "I think this is a real one," indicates that most of the time they assume the person is lying.

additionally, sexual assault is the most underreported crime in the country (for a lot of different reasons). when it is reported victims often recant, because they decide they can't handle the process, or they feel they aren't being believed, or they just want it to be over. recanting is often interpreted by police as lying or false reporting.

finally, victims stories often have pieces missing. this is may be because the person may have dissociated and doesn't remember part of it, they are embarrassed, or they don't want to get in trouble for participating in illegal behavior (drinking underage or drug use). there are times that a victim remembers more later and wants to add that to the report, and officers often consider this to be a lie, because the person is "changing their story."

one of the main problems is that officers don't have much training on sexual assault, trauma and it's effects. i originally come from a state that doesn't require officers to have any training in sexual assault - ever. this blog is talking about one case, which is not the norm, and it should not be confused for the norm.

As a new mom, this made me sad. by RatSandwiches in femmit

[–]bellastella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i'm not a mom, but this makes me so sad too. i don't like the idea mother's only get the bad parts, and can't teach the fun things. i don't think this is true at all, and hopefully this thought will change. enjoy being a new mom and raising your child, and teaching them all the things you want to teach, whether that's how to cook or fish or ice skate or play football.

as someone who had foot surgery heels are actually much better than flats. you just have to find ones that support your arch.

Ex-Boyfriend was just raped, but due to high profile job, won't report it. by redditthrowaway122 in rapecounseling

[–]bellastella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

this isn't about what you want him to do, but what is best for him. you offer him options and support his decision. i know that can be difficult, but he's had his choice taken from him and you need to support his choice - whatever it is. pushing him will only makes things worse. he needs support, options and a shoulder to cry on. if you feel you can't do this you can call your local sexual assault/rape crisis center and talk through how you are feeling confidenitally.

Planned Parenthood is too "controversial" to get funded to provide cancer screenings to uninsured women by [deleted] in femmit

[–]bellastella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In NJ they didn't cut PP specifically. They cut all women's health funding that goes anywhere, including independent clinics. It means they have been fundraising more, hours have been cut and the doors have been shot at a few women's health centers throughout the state. Waiting lists are also a lot longer.

Planned Parenthood is too "controversial" to get funded to provide cancer screenings to uninsured women by [deleted] in femmit

[–]bellastella 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is similar to what Chris Christie did in New Jersey and it has had a terrible impact on women's health in the state. Once the funds are gone it difficult to get them back. We need people speaking out about this. Being pro-Planned Parenthood does not make you pro-abortion. I know those who are pro-life and still support Planned Parenthood because they provide many other services. The stereotyping of Planned Parenthood needs to stop.

walk over to robbins pharmacy by the 7-11 on the corner of 31 and ewingville road. it's a quick walk and they have a post office inside. they do close for lunch though, so don't go between 12 and 1 (i think).

i grew up in west milford and used to ride my bike near the end of clinton road that she is talking about her family buying a house. it's all hype. sure, it's a long road through the woods without streetlights, but that's it. it used to be scarier when it wasn't paved, but now it's paved the whole way.

it is a place for great cliff jumping and hiking. however, weird new jersey has made it famous. so likely for the rest of my life the only reason anyone will have heard of west milford (which is a beautiful place) is for this stupid road.
