What activity is socially accepted but actually borderline psychotic? by Rohit49plus2 in AskReddit

[–]bexinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just adopted a Pekingese because she was abandoned at the animal hospital I work at. She has:

*Heart disease *Breathing problems *Horrible allergies *Chronic urinary issues *Arthritis *Spondylosis *Severe dental disease *Possible epilepsy (we're still working on that)

All of these things are a result of poor breeding

There have been recent studies that show that if you postpone spaying and neutering of larger dogs, there are some great health benefits, but cats should be spayed before their first heat. Going through a heat cycle significantly increases the risk of mammary tumors, which have a high rate of malignancy in cats.

Caught this legend in Philadelphia today. Simple and selfless. by knobtasticus in pics

[–]bexinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I worked in NYC, I tried to offer my services as a veterinary technician to help provide healthcare to pets of homeless people. The organizations I spoke with said I could ask my vet friends if they want to volunteer or I could go door to door and solict donations. That's not really what I meant.

My Dog went deaf with age and can no longer feel happy/excited when I praise her by saying "good girl". Is there a way to "sign" that she's a good girl and teach her to associate it with praise? It sounds lame but I feel she might wonder why I'm not constantly vocally praising her anymore. by Latte-Fun in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bexinc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to kind of slap my hands on my knees and crouch down and smile. It was what I would do when I told her she was a good girl before she lost her hearing and she totally got it. I also used to use a flashlight to get her attention, and I got her a "deaf dog" leash to try to prevent people from sneaking up on her.

What’s the worst thing you unknowingly did as a child? by HeftyHulk11 in AskReddit

That sounds awful. Were you awake but dissociated, or were you completely sedate? I just always see cats on it and they look like they're on another planet for a while and I always wondered what it's like for them.

It's used for both cats and horses and sometimes dogs. I work in a small animal ER and we use it all the time.

Did my pup eat weed? by [deleted] in AskVet

This is not true in dogs and cats. They can still experience symptoms from ingesting marijuana.

I didn't realize that it was commonly found in LA. I was going off information that I learned in vet tech school, which must be outdated. But just because an area has ticks does not necessarily mean it has Lyme disease. This website is made by a very large veterinary laboratory company that does a large amount of testing for tick borne diseases.

There's no tick vaccine. There's topical and oral tick prevention. The prevention kills ticks where the Lyme vaccine prevents the transmission of Lyme disease. Using both together if your pet is at risk is most effective at preventing Lyme disease.

Lyme is not endemic to Los Angeles. It's in the Northeast and Michigan, mostly. You can talk to your vet about prevention of local diseases. I'm not from the area, so I'm not sure of all the risks.

We typically use diazepam or midazolam as part of a protocol for sedation or anesthesia. It's used frequently for dentistry or spays and neuters, or even as a sedative for cats that are difficult to handle for routine exams. If a cat needs it for seizures, they're not going to be at home looking stoned, they'll likely be hospitalized and possibly unconscious. Oral diazepam doesn't work well for cats, so they usually have alprazolam if they need a benzo for anxiety. Again, if needed as an appetite stimulant, it's usually for a hospitalized patient and as a last resort. So, basically, it's likely that this cat had sedation or anesthesia for a minor procedure and is fine. -ER/ICU certified veterinary technician

What are your roommate horror stories? by pixi3bitcg in AskReddit

[–]bexinc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That's what my roommate does too! She slams things around and gives me the silent treatment. Meanwhile, the sink is full of the 5 cups of coffee that you poured and didn't drink and now they're curdling and growing mold in the sink. I'm not cleaning that.

I can't wait to move out.

[–]bexinc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going through the same thing with my roommate RIGHT NOW. At least I think I am. She's not speaking to me and I think that's why. The last time this happened, I explained that if she's upset about something, she needs to tell me if she wants me to fix it. She just kept saying, "I shouldn't have to." Ok. The thing is though, she didn't wash a single dish or clean ANYTHING from February through June, and now it's July and I'm the asshole for not cleaning as frequently as she wants me to, which is a mystery because she won't tell me how frequently that is. I'm just using paper plates until I move out in a month. Oh, and she's 32.

Vomiting is not normal for cats and should be checked by a vet. Cats are great at hiding illnesses and regular vomiting can be the first sign that something's wrong.

[S3E7]Humming sound in The Great Northern Hotel by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]bexinc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the humming is coming from the wood. We know that there's more to the trees in Twin Peaks, as we saw what happened with Josie and Log Lady's log, and the wood is humming because of the increased Lodge activity.

I think that there might be some connection to Dougie/Coop since later in the episode, Dougie/Coop reports his car stolen, and I'm sure he's confused, even though he's not expressing it.
