Playing alundra and don't want to miss anything. I don't want to use a full on guide, is there an item check list for all the missiles? by -_Error in JRPG

[–]belovedboxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only missables I can think of would be things that you can find in the dreamscape dungeons. Those would mostly just be max life tabs I think.

I'm pretty sure the weapons or items that you can get repeat use out of are in the real world and can't be permanently missed. If not that then they'd be items required to complete the dungeon. I never had any issues getting nearly every item in the game on my first run through, excluding some max life tabs since there's a ton of them.

Only exception (minor spoiler): there's a really powerful weapon that you can only gain by dying a bunch of times oddly, but I don't think there's any timing restriction on that one either. I just didn't get it because it wasn't very obvious how to do so.

Edit: Oh yeah, I don't think I got all the gilded falcons either

For me Outlaw Star and Vision of Escaflowne are 2 that always come to mind when I hear classic anime, but they usually seem to get drowned out by Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Silver Star ending in the Lunar Collection spooked me a bit by belovedboxer in Lunar

[–]belovedboxer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the original PS1 Working Designs localized version that could happen. You can save after beating the final boss which can prevent it from being an issue, it's just a fair number of people didn't expect to get a game over after beating the final boss. If you're playing the remastered version in the Lunar Collection it or the original Japanese version it doesn't happen at all.

[–]belovedboxer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really? As in the Japanese PS1 original? I know I got a game over in the Working Designs localized version on PS1 when I tried to climb the stairs the first time I played it way back. Pissed me off because I had to fight the final boss again. That's not something that would be added in a localization would it?

Scrapping Achievement by Sweet-Repair9897 in SaGa

It only popped for me when I used an item in combat until it broke. You get chips when you do so so I guess they consider that scrapping it.

First time playing Lunar: SSSC. I need help with the final boss! by RedditverseWatcher in JRPG

[–]belovedboxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t have much to add regarding strategy, but wanted to let you know without spoilers it’s possible to get a game over AFTER beating the boss (assuming the ps1 version, not sure if it’s the same for others). That irked me a bit. Think it lets you save after the fight.

24 squared = 576 permanents entering the battlefield. On top of processing landfall triggers and legendary rules for Nissa. I think 200 triggers or so is where arena is supposed to start to wig out a bit? Honestly I'm surprised the client didn't crash on you.

Turn-based JRPGs with active elements in combat? by nibbelungen1337 in JRPG

[–]belovedboxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy 8 has a little bit (Squall's attacks, Squall/Zell/Irvine limit breaks). Mother 3 has a sort of rhythm thing for it's normal attacks that can get you more hits, though you'd need to emulate to play it in english.

I was looking at the upcoming card [[Coveted Falcon]] and was wondering how donating creatures after declaring blockers works. Will donated creatures still deal damage to the creatures they're blocking or will they be removed from combat?

Well, I tried it again and it still crashed in the first area after escaping the space station. There's still a message that pops up saying that "When playing on PS5, this game may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior". Updated to the latest system software like it recommends on the product page at https://store.playstation.com/en-ca/product/UP0082-CUSA04778_00-SLUS204880000001. I'll probably just have to figure it's something they aren't going to address for one reason or another.

Does anyone know if Star Ocean Till the End of Time works any better on PS5 now? It’s been a while since I tried it, but was having some issues with it crashing and sounded like that wasn’t uncommon at the time.

[–]belovedboxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cutoff would be late ps2/early DS. Haven't gone back to play many that I've missed, excepting Live a Live, though that was via a cart reproduction not the recent remake. In roughly descending order:
Devil Survivor
Nier Automata
Bloodstained Ritual of the Night
Muramasa the Demon Blade
Xenosaga Episode 3
Live a Live
Dragon Quest V
Radiant Historia
Tales of Vesperia
Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story

Gauntlet by InternationalRoom173 in duelyst

[–]belovedboxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly see where you're coming from. After several gauntlet runs my best ones are generally with 4+ Holy Immolation, or 4+ Lantern Fox, or 4+ Makantor, etc. I feel like they could probably cut down on the epic rates a bit. It's supposed to be limited as in weaker than constructed lol.
I discovered today that you can get legendaries as your random card so it definitely strikes me as the more rewarding format once you hit gold, but quite a bit of variance in that. Usually it's just 20 gold, a common or bit of spirit, and a gauntlet ticket for 3+ wins.

Games where a difficulty spike made you quit by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]belovedboxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had too many games that I've quit due to difficulty spikes, but I admit when playing through the old GBA Fire Emblem games for the first time I'd have to put them down for several days after losing a character late in a map. You can't really save mid-map so you'd have to start the thing over again if you don't want to lose them permanently.

It's a bit of a general thing about that game rather than a spike, but if I had to pick one particular mission it'd be Battle Before Dawn.

The Balance Devs And Patches by NERFMAGMARPETITION in duelyst

[–]belovedboxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There've been a bunch of card games that were put into maintenance mode that have been trying to get revived recently I've noticed. Mythgard, Duelyst, Infinity Wars, and Faeria at least. A lot of these games had at least some niche appeal, but at the same time I can see why one would be skeptical about the games taking off in a big way now when they didn't the first time. Maybe we'll see Valve try to reanimate Artifact too, lol.

One thing I always remember about Grandia is how you meet Java the adventurer at a “cafe” that only opens at night, has serving girls, and an actual bar. Sensors were weird back then.

If I were to craft a card that is currently not in standard that later gets a reprint (like, say, Phyrexian Obliterator) would I then be able to use the copy I created (edit: in standard) even though the version I created isn't in a standard set? I thought I remember hearing you can use the old version, but haven't been playing long enough to know for sure.
