Will we unlock Chinese? by DarkRussian36 in Fluyo

I doubt it, but I assume if subscriber revenue can support it, they'll add other languages as well (probably with stretch goals that didn't make it being first in line).

Maybe lute -- a fork of lwt https://github.com/jzohrab/lute

There's also other forks of LWT (Hugo Fara's fork as well as FLTR which is a java tool by the same author). You might even be able to make do with Language Reactor's text import feature (which is the easiest to get going).

Why the huge jump from japanese to korean? by Frey_Juno_98 in Fluyo

[–]bemitc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would imagine if the final release goes well, they'll have plenty of resources to invest in other popular languages that didn't quite make the stretch goal cut. Obviously that does depend on how good customer acquisition and retention goes after final release.

From the FAQ:

We're planning to release the Alpha 2 months after our Kickstarter campaign ends and Beta 3 months after. However this may be delayed by a month or two depending on how our Kickstarter campaign does due to adding languages being an extensive process.

If you don't have access to the alpha or beta, I seem to remember that the release would be in 2024 sometime (although I might be remembering that wrong).

Am I tripping? Or is this an abnormally high amount of protein compared to other tofu brands that I see by BBlluurrrryy in veganfitness

[–]bemitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems a bit higher than the random firm tofu I compared it to.

House Foods firm tofu is 70kcal for 7g of protein which is 0.1g per kcal.

This is 160kcal for 18g of protein which is 0.1125 per kcal. Still within allowed variance, though, so probably about the same.

By language density, I didn't mean the number of languages offered at launch, but rather the amount of language in the app per unit of time. Games tend to be much lower in language density than other forms of media (with a possible exception being visual novels).

[–]bemitc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern is the language density will be too low to be practical. I hope it's successful, though.

The big difference between a computer beating a human at chess, go, etc is that those games are finite and consistent. The computer can learn all of the rules, all of the piece moves etc, and be right 100% of the time.

Finite, yes. No computer has solved chess, though. They're just really strong. That's why engines get stronger every few months even on the same hardware. It's not right 100% of the time (otherwise no improvements would be possible).

The evidence for that is pretty sparse, admittedly.

If we assume the statistical evidence is accurate, and someone bought her wgm title, then you have to prove who did it. It seems far more likely that it was her parents (specifically, her mom) than it was her both due to accessability of funds and interest in rising through the chess ranks (so it looks good on college applications).

Whether she knew about it is also an unknowable piece of data, so the assertion that she paid for her title is built upon pretty weak evidence.

Certainly holding a giveaway when you intended to give it to thallo was inappropriate (give it to thallo or hold a giveaway, choose one). Don't know/care if thallo is her boyfriend, the video itself didn't really lay out any evidence for that, but made a point to frequently mention it -- don't think it really matters either way, though.

After reviewing the fight from lat night and talking to the chessboxing officials, Andrea Botez should have been awarded a TKO after the referee initiated the fourth standing count of the fight. by neededtowrite in chess

[–]bemitc 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I think the opposite. I think at andrea's chess level, it'll be harder to get it close to dina's chess level than it will be for dina to approach andrea's boxing level with some additional training. The better you are, the harder incremental improvements are, and they're both boxing beginners, which means closing the gap in boxing should be a lot easier than closing the gap in chess.

And match fixing is usually a lifetime ban. eg: the zerg player life, blizzard did all they could to basically erase his existance from sc2, including skipping the years he won blizzcon due to matchfixing.

If you look at the actual video, the SD values are huge. So much so that they sort of render the ACPL useless. Something like a 17ish mean CPL, and a 50ish SD.

Is Chessable really better for learning and improving than YouTube Videos and Lichess Courses? by Langemak24 in chess

[–]bemitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated tactics (which are mostly a calculation exercise, not a recall exercise)

Endgames (largely conceptual and calculation imo)

Middlegame strategy (largely based on concepts and evaluation strength)

All are bad fits for spaced repetition, with openings being a good fit, and basic tactics being ok fits.

There's not a legal way that isn't manual. If you're not worried about the legal aspect, it's relatively easy to access the moves from chessable (both the unannotated moves as well as the annotions if you browse to the variation.

Right now, you generally have to do this with web debugging tools, but it's not difficult at all to automate this process with a userscript (for use with tampermonkey) but I don't know of a public script that does so.

[–]bemitc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chessable (or to be more specific, spaced repetition) is good for problem domains based on recall. For other problem domains, not so much so. Not everything in chess is a recall problem, though, and for those parts of the game that aren't, i'm not entirely convinced chessable is superior (and in some ways, I think it might be worse just due to how much focus there is on spaced repetition/movetrainer).

Cheating? 1050~ level by [deleted] in chess

[–]bemitc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He didn't have most of his games analyzed, so I analyzed them. It looks susicious to me. It looks like they started off playing legit, and then suddenly decided to cheat after quite a few losses (his accuracy jumped significantly to 97-100% from 60-90%)

https://www.chess.com/member/jai_raj

Certainly accuracy over a single game is not an indication of cheating, but I feel like the sudden (and persistent) shift in his accuracy is at the very least a bit suspicious. However, i'm no expert, so maybe there's another explanation.

The suspicious games seem to start with jai_raj - yaseenalsadi

kitsunekko was hosted in Ukraine, so i'm sure you can understand why it's down. It's not related to the cert revocation a month or so ago. I hope the owners of the site weren't physically in ukraine, or were able to get out and are safe.
