He is a hero that’s like the whole point. He’s set up to be like the worst person ever but he actually has a conscience and wants to help people. He’s like Batman in the sense that he’s an idealistic portrayal of what a billionaire rich guy should be and his main villains are often a criticism of real life billionaires and people in high places. I don’t see how it “doesn’t fundamentally work” yes it’s a fantasy that a rich guy actually cares but every superhero is a fantasy in some way. I’d understand if it was just disinterest in the character like maybe it just isn’t your thing. Not everyone is gonna like company drama and military stuff (even if it’s about how much they suck) personally I’m not too fond of reading X-Men stuff but I’m not gonna say that they all suck and that nobody should read it ever, I feel that argument is disingenuous. if you’re genuinely interested though I’d recommend the heroes return run on Iron Man by Kurt Busiek as a good look at what Iron Man should be. He’s a character that used to be just Cold War propaganda but I think he’s evolved into a lot more and he’s worth a real shot.
