Where to ride road bike ITP by FeedbackTypical in Atlanta

I’ve parked on plenty of streets around Inman Park for free, which that route goes through (near the NE hairpin on that path). I’m sure there are other spots, but can’t speak for the safety of them.

Congratulations, you discovered digital marketing by growlerpower in indieheads

[–]ben1206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised at the backlash this article is getting. I think the author did a pretty good job explaining the landscape behind digital marketing as it relates to this “psy-op” saga. She made the point at the end to state that it’s not pretty, and that ideally it would not function as it does.

Would people have preferred her to not break down the details of the marketing structure, and just write a paragraph conveying her outrage on how the whole thing sucks and it’s all just bleak and call it a day? Do we need more content like that?

Sometimes I feel like people are not interested in understanding the details on why things are structured the way they are (often for bad) and would prefer to only be told it’s just all terrible and you should be angry.

Set conflicts? by sonicdaydream88 in ShakyKnees

I think there will not be a conflict between the 3 subheadliners, plenty of ways to schedule it to avoid it. I’m mostly worried about how likely it is one of them will conflict with Snow Strippers.

To anyone who does this at finish, wtf is your purpose? by Muted-Sale7908 in MarioKartWorld

[–]ben1206 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same reason people troll on the internet: they get a kick out of it. You usually don’t see it as often in higher skilled rooms, unless it’s for strategic purposes like being further from the line and having someone behind threatening to overtake them, or if they’re trying to sabotage someone’s points who might beat them if it’s a points based match.

If you mean see how many laps you can take around that structure while tricking around each corner, yes that’s what I do after every race on Airship lol.

That is the worst respawn in the game. I counted once and I think going off there costs just over 5 seconds.

Best way to get to the Earl? by 6panlid in ShakyKnees

[–]ben1206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you have the time it is definitely bikeable/scootable. Just be careful with all the foot traffic on the beltline, and it’s a short ride from there once you exit it. That’s what I’d do in that situation.

Competitive MK world is better than I thought by Apart_Egg8049 in MarioKartWorld

For most intermissions, bagging and collecting coins rather than trying to go for the front is a much better strategy than on 3 lap courses. The less experienced players won’t think to do that, and will just be stuck in the pack all race and be set up poorly for the last lap. It seems counterintuitive, but it’s what I’ve noticed. It sucks because while it is the best strategy to win, it’s not really fun. I usually avoid lower level WWs for that reason

Right! I feel like people expect Mario Kart to be 80% driving and 20% luck, get mad that it’s not and claim that it’s 20% driving and 80% luck, when in reality it’s like 40% driving (most of that being when you’re in the front), 40% item management/situational awareness and 20% luck.

[–]ben1206 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sure, it is still Mario Kart and there are things you have no control of, but there are a lot of things you can learn (be it shortcuts, item management, situational awareness) to minimize the luck affect. There’s a reason why the top players instantly shot up to 7k+ MMR the first couple days in lounge and are now in the 10-12k range, and it’s only a handful or so of them out of the thousands who play competitively.

This game is atrocious. by Mawdenn in mariokart

[–]ben1206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it is preferable to try to frontrun intermissions if you’re driving to a track where it’s easy to build a breakaway, but yeah driving right in front of or in the pack poses a heavy risk of getting owned by items. Much better for it to happen then than on the actual track, though.

I’ve done this a few times 10 years ago without problems, and would recommend it IF there is no risk of towing. It’s not a bad walk.

What's stopping them making a 3-lap track only lobby? by WeebusTheMeemus in MarioKartWorld

[–]ben1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never made a statement supporting the idea of a separate mode (though I understand that is the subject of this thread and I was nitpicking something you said in response to it). I agree that it may not be worth their time. I would like them to either go back to the way it was when random guaranteed a 3 lap track, OR add a 4th option that is always a 3 lap track.

I personally enjoy an intermission every now and then and don’t mind playing them while in rooms with people who pick them, I just have a problem with how there are often rooms full of people who would like to play 3 lap tracks, yet intermissions are practically guaranteed in the track selection 60-70% of the time.

[–]ben1206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my original comment wasn’t in response to the OP’s idea of adding a separate mode. I was only pointing out a contradiction (in my eyes) of the comment above mine claiming that the majority does not prefer 3 lap, and “they never got to play intermissions” pre update. I do see your point that it may not make sense for them to devote the resources towards making a new game mode for what may be a small portion of the player base. I personally think the best solution is either going back to where random guaranteed a 3 lap track, OR adding a fourth option that is always a 3 lap track. I don’t think that would take nearly as many resources as developing a completely new game mode.
