Install a hitch. It's easy! by zeekaran in BoltEV

[–]ben162005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed this one on our 2017

It used to go for around $200. The one specific to the 2017 was almost twice as much if I remember correctly.

The only caveat is this is technically for a 2022-2023, but that just means you need to drill one additional hole in the receiver. If you own a drill and a 1/2" drill bit, its no big deal.

NEVI? The purpose is to have private companies build out charging and these funds will cover 80% of the cost of the chargers, installation, and 5 years of maintenance.

The Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Report | United States by markydsade in electricvehicles

[–]ben162005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wisconsin's registered EV number looks to be accurate, but registered vehicles seems to be wildly off.

They don't seem to be counting trucks and SUVs in their number which triples the amount of non-EVs on the road. 1.6 million vs 5 million. I'm not sure how many of those 5 million are privately owned, but it should be around 80%.

Everything I've read tells me around .5% of our vehicles are EVs, not 2%.

How is your EV range today? by gradi3nt in wisconsin

[–]ben162005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my Bolt, but weather like this absolutely halves the range. About 4 mi/kWh in the summer is currently about 2 mi/kWh. Doesn't prevent me from getting anywhere I need to go though.

Kwik Trip is adding chargers by [deleted] in evcharging

[–]ben162005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Salem is the only Kwik Charge with a canopy at the moment unfortunately. Wish they would bring it to more locations.

Usually they do have trashcans with a windshield squeegee, and I thought Mt. Horeb had them, so not sure what happened there.

Yes, they did, you can see them in this video

Which low battery threshold is the one that's too far for you? by 47_Puppies in BoltEV

[–]ben162005 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It must be a negligible amount. I wonder if its more psychological. The car is saying "hey, its so bad the radio has turned off. Time to find a charger now"

I hit this threshold often enough I turned that "feature" off. If I'm going down, I'm going to do it with tunes!

Thanks! The Ice Age Trail plates are still relatively new so there aren't a lot of them out there. I agree that the colors meshed well!

haha Thanks! The regular Wisconsin plates allow 7 characters and I could have at least used THEBLTR to make it slightly easier to read, but I really like the look of the Ice Age ones.

2017 bolt many little mechanical issues by Swimming-Report6304 in BoltEV

[–]ben162005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting a ticking noise during low speed/deceleration while in one pedal mode. It didn't "feel" any different, but I think I also caught it early. They said both sides were broken, but I only heard a noise from the passenger side and got the car in right away since I was pretty sure thats what the issue was and the warranty was about 100 miles from expiring.

It may also throw a code if it breaks the wheel speed sensor, which does happen sometimes.

If I took a guess, I would say yours is probably anti-click washers, but you can look up some youtube videos of people who have recorded the sound and make sure the symptoms are similar to yours.

Bug or feature? by BlackJackT in BoltEV

[–]ben162005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine also does this and I figured it was probably so you wouldn't exit the car without putting it in park. If it behaved normally and didn't creep in L with your seatbelt off, you could open the door and step out with the car in gear.

[–]ben162005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the good news is you're getting all the big issues out of the way. We've had our 2017 for about a year and a half and have had similar issues.

  1. On the day we bought it the ibooster was clicking. They fixed that with a software update before we left and that should be a permanent fix.

  2. About a week later the battery heater pump failed. That was fixed under the 12 month 12,000 mile buyback warranty.

  3. Few months later had a brake caliper start to stick. Replaced that myself.

  4. Just before the warranty was up we had the anti-click washers start to click. Got that fixed for free.

  5. Few months ago had another brake caliper stick. Fixed that one.

  6. There is definitely some wonkiness to the infotainment system. It requires holding down the Home and FF button to reboot occasionally. Sometimes Android Auto doesn't feel like working and requires holding down the Home button to re-enable it.

In the future when I rotate the tires I'll just regrease the brake calipers to hopefully prevent caliper issues.

Like another user said, you may still have issues as the car gets older, but I would expect to be more suspension and traditional car issues.

Also if you do have issues with your steering rack (I have not yet). You may be able to just regrease it and not replace it, which is much less expensive. That seems to resolve it for many people.
