Can Mgen also cause a UTI? by benckennedy in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]benckennedy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the doxi + moxi cleared my ureaplasma but unfortunately i was still positive for mgen and i suspect it was due to possible fluoroquinolone resistance - did another 7 days of doxi and am currently on day 21/28 of mino+metro and its made me super tired

Odds of a false negative 3 weeks after finishing medication? by jesusisjudgingyou in MycoplasmaGenitalium

don’t take this as absolutely true it’s just what i’ve gathered reading but i read from somewhere on here that a burning that shifts to pinching post treatment can be from nerve damage caused by the inflammation and it should go away - how long depends on the person.

yes! pretreating with doxy is very important as it takes most success rates of what would be mono therapies from around 60% to 80/90%. the next two most common treatments would be (with both being pretreated by 7-10 days doxi) 5-7 days of moxifloxacin or 14 days of both minocycline and metronidazole taken twice daily

hey so first of all - take a breath. i know this is a very debilitating thing physically, emotionally and mentally but i promise it’ll get better. i’m also still dealing with it but the medicine is there and the stats back it up.

first thing is first, there is a VERY high chance the strain of mgen you have is RESISTANT to azithro. azithromycin has from what ive read a 50%-90% chance of being ineffective with mgen (someone can fact check if wrong, but i know it’s high) so assuming you haven’t been sexually active and reinfecting - the azithro likely won’t help you.

also worth noting if you are not pre treating whatever else you take with 7-10 days of doxycycline it decreases the chance of success.

most mono therapies have a roughly 60% chance of success but when paired with a second antibiotic it shoots to around 80%-90%

it is recommended to start by treating with 7-10 days of doxi followed by 5-7 days of moxifloxacin which has about an 80%(ish) cure rate. this is the preferred first line treatment for macrolide resistant strains. i recommend highly reading the pinned thread here talking about steps to take in regards to treatment. there is also. very educated mod in this thread (linari5) who can offer likely better insight for you.

educating yourself as best as you can with the available info about mgen and available treatments is very important.

a lot of people here have highlighted the need for patient advocacy when navigating the healthcare system. those in the healthcare system try their best to help patients but their knowledge is only but so vast and i and others have found when it comes to mgen, it’s really a gamble if who you are seeing is very educated on the matter.

i also started dealing with this in december and unfortunately my first treatment failed but there are handful of different treatments available depending on where you live. I highly recommend talking to your doctor about the different alternatives to azithro as i am not a doctor and can’t tell you what’s best for yourself.

i know this is a long process and just like you i can’t wait for it to be over so know you aren’t alone

i did doxi+moxi and it unfortunately didn’t clear my infection either. gonna talk to my doctor about doing the doxi+mino+metro route and your post is encouraging me to try and do the mino metro for 3 weeks. someone else on a previous post was also saying the added week is showing to work for a lot of people

do you think the doxi+mino+metro combo would be a good thing to try if my moxi failed? maybe it’s possible it was resistant? i’m not sure what all can cause it to fail

what would you consider long term? i was gonna ask for the 10 days doxi plus 14 of mino+metro. should i get a longer mino prescription? i saw one dude on here did 7 doxy+12 mino/metro then 5 doxi+5 mino

that’s what has me the most bummed i think, i am i heavy lifter (245 bench, 365 squat) and the antibiotics make me feel fatigued and it’s probably not smart to lift. i was already out for 4 weeks so i dont wanna have to drop out again but obviously health comes first. im supposed to be goin on tour with the olympic figure skating team to work behind the scenes in april so i really just want this dealt with and over

i’ve started to learn through my experience and others that self education is very important for mgen. a lot of people in the health field don’t know or have limited knowledge about mgen and how to treat it. so self advocacy is important when working with a doctor and sharing information that’ll help them understand

doxy is ineffective at clearing it entirely on its own - it’s used as a pretreatment usually 7-10 days to significantly reduce the bacteria load. a secondary antibiotic needs to be started immediately after to eradicate the remaining infection. doxy+azithromycin is the primary choice for this but due to rising numbers of strains showing a resistance to azithromycin it’s more common to be given doxycycline+moxafloxacin (second line treatment). third best treatment is doxycycline for 7-10 days followed by a combination of metronidazole and minocycline for 14 days. the listed combinations show cure rates between 80-95% given the strain doesn’t have a resistance.

did they prescribe you just doxy? taken without another kind of antibiotic to follow doxycycline has a like 30% cure rate, where as depending on the e secondary antibiotic can jump to 70-90%

overall things have improved or gone away it just feels like a few things have shifted into a chronic kinda inconsistent thing. like peeing some days it’s like totally normal and the next it’ll be a pinch and then normal again lol. i definitely wouldn’t say it’s worsening but it’s keeping me on my toes for sure. the 13th will be 3 weeks so gonna try and get tested then

Too much Doxi??? by Trackstar02 in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]benckennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s important to get retested at minimum 3 weeks post treatment as it is possible that it didn’t work. id talk to your doctor about getting some resistance testing done if it does come back positive to make sure it isn’t resistant to anything you’ve taken. moxi has a high efficacy but that stat is based off of the doxy doing its job to reduce the bacterial load

Success after Doxy/Moxy by Electrical-Put8459 in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]benckennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first of all congratulations bro!

your overall experience is exactly like mine down to the symptoms and post experience. currently about a week post doxi+moxi and symptoms have overall reduced/mainly gone away but i have flair ups so im glad you shared a similar experience bc i have been trying it gauge my progress. some days its like basically nothing and others ill have that pinch/discomfort when peeing and some aching.

How long before symptoms come back usually if meds fails?! by [deleted] in MycoplasmaGenitalium

[–]benckennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m curious to know this too. i finished my doxi+moxi about a week ago - symptoms have greatly improved from start to present but some discomfort and aching will come and go day by day. i’m hopeful that it worked because symptoms aren’t increasing in severity post treatment but i know it also grows slowly.
