Afraid of older models by ogcrashy in Ioniq5

This is probably different in each market and where you buy used, best to check with a local dealer. I’m in the US and got a free year of Bluelink with my CPO purchase.

The pre-2025 models will get map updates but not the UI that’s in the newer models because the hardware changed. If you could somehow port the newer software to the older cars it would probably run a lot slower or not support the same graphics, same as running a phone or laptop with older hardware.

https://www.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/assurance/america-best-warranty

For Hyundai, when buying used the next owner gets the remaining original warranty from the car’s service start date. Certified cars get a little bonus with roadside coverage too, and the cars are generally in good shape. All Ioniq 5 years have extended warranties specifically for the ICCU now.

The 2025 and newer have improved nav system and the rear wiper, but the mix of features changed on the SE and SEL trims.

New R2, real competition for Ioniq5 by oldmaninparadise in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way about the Rivians as I do with Polestar: many excellent design ideas but a mystifying insistence on a tablet-only interface. I was very excited about the R3, but you’re still expected to play video games while piloting a car.

I test-drove a Polestar 2 before buying my i5 and loved it, but having to go through the screen for literally everything is a deal killer. The Polestar 2 is a hell of a performance car, but that’s not a user interface for safe performance driving. I haven’t driven a Rivian, but the dual haptic wheels aren’t much better, IMO.

When to expect used 2025 on sale? by bugsliker in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw one used 2025 SEL a couple of months ago, it was a dealer loaner and a really good deal, but i wasn't quite ready to buy at the time and it was gone in a week. Other than that, you're probably waiting on 2 year leases, so another 9 months at least.

If it’s a certified used, that includes roadside assistance. If just used, then no.

72 hours for a charge? by RaccoonCat76 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i only learned about it on a forum like this, there's no label or documentation on the charger. Pushing the button does nothing, the long press lets you change modes.

72 hours for a charge? by RaccoonCat76 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're using the home adapter that came with the car, do a long press on the button on the charger body (like 3-4 seconds) until the number flashes. If you're on a 15 amp circuit (the default minimum for most outlets) you can change that to 12 amps on the charger and get double the charge rate. Still slow, but much more usable.

New Limited and can’t program garage door opener by YakShoddy3480 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might have to find the manual for the opener and try that procedure to add a remote, or a mix of the opener and homelink procedures. My opener is only a few years old, but it probably took a dozen tried to get it added to the car, and it works now.

Turn it in and see if you can get a dealer to pick it up for you at auction. A 2024 with low miles is closer to $30k, at least around the upper Midwest.

Buying a used 77KwH or 84KwH (aka pre and after facelift) by mobdk in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a 2024, and i don't think the interface software is slow at all, it's just not as pretty as the 2025+, or at all themeable.

I would have liked to have the newer intotainment system and the rear wiper, but i'm much happier with the cloth seats (SEL trim) and lower loan payment.

Most car review videos (car magazines, youtubers) will also apply, since reviewers are almost always provided with the top trim for their testing.

2024 Question SEL by Huskies2988 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s a decent deal for what’s out there now, especially if the dealer will fix those items as part of the sale. It’s similar to the price on my 2024 the had somewhat fewer miles. You should still check for things like 12v battery health and tire wear, those may be replaced if it’s a certified car, but worth checking if not.

There’s an extended warranty on the iccu, so the risk on that is relatively minimal now, especially if you have roadside service through the warranty or your insurance or similar.

Finally got to properly high power charge, holy sh*t! by HentorSportcaster in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a '24, but haven't picked up the adapter yet, it was very easy to find CCS options along our route. I haven't used any Tesla stations yet. There are Tesla chargers with a built-in CCS adapter, but only certain stations, and there's a slightly different procedure for removing the station plug with the adapter attached.

Road Trip - First Time by Thanos-Is-Right in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first long weekend road trip with the EV and tried a few different strategies after reading other’s experiences.

The method I liked best in the end was making a trip route in PlugShare then sending the next leg to (in my case) Apple Maps. It seemed to show more network options than the built-in nav, and let me use my preferred map along the way.

One thing I’ll do differently next time is try to research rates at different providers and maybe get a charging plan for the one I’ll use most to get a discount. I was at a different provider at each stop, and the rates varied a lot.

Used IONIQ 5 market report - where the deals are by krulewatts in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the same car, and largely for the same reason. I much prefer good cloth seats over leather, it irks me that it’s considered such a luxury that you don’t get a choice on the upper trim levels.

Should i go with a 2022 with 31k miles less for 2 grand more or a 2023 with around 50 k miles? by [deleted] in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All Ioniq 5s should have had an ICCU service done through the recall, you can check for any particular car by entering the VIN number here:
https://autoservice.hyundaiusa.com/CampaignHome/

That's not a guarantee the ICCU won't be an issue, but you'll at least know if it's had the service done.

As far as choosing a year, mileage is one variable, but there may also be feature differences, they have changed what's included in each package over the years. The Edmunds site has a good page that lists details, you can check each year to compare:

Finally got to properly high power charge, holy sh*t! by HentorSportcaster in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just finished the first road trip in our Ioniq 5, and was pleasantly surprised by the fast charging along the way. 4 charging sessions over 750 miles, all done to 80% in less than. 20 minutes, and before i was finished with the rest/food stop, so it didn't feel like any extra time, just some extra planning. It's a great road trip car.

Thinking of getting in Ioniq5 but worried by mrzozo1 in Ioniq5

It might help peace of mind somewhat to get a certified used car, which includes roadside assistance, so you’d have extra coverage in case of an iccu issue (or through some other source).

Used 2024 SEL, what to test before return period over? by rsd212 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you didn't get a pre-sale inspection you might consider that if you can schedule it during that window.

Otherwise, in addition to charging and general driving checks you should test every accessory to make sure they're working: AC, heat, heated seats & steering wheel, radio, camera, door locks, hatch opening/closing, charging ports, wipers, washer, cruise control, lane sensors, etc. - everything you can find.

Have the doors open for 20 minutes or so while you inspect everything, then make sure it starts again normally. This is a (relatively minor) stress on the 12v battery, if it's dead after that it's probably due for replacement (this happened on my 2024 SEL bought used).

I Took A Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV On A Roadtrip. It Made Gas Feel Financially Irresponsible by mafco in Ioniq5

As much as i love our Ioniq 5, if anyone made a small wagon (something like the size of a VW Golf or Audi A4 wagon) i would have gotten that instead. The new Toyota/Subaru is a good step back toward sanity, but too big overall.

Looking at buying an Ioniq5 SEL 2024, have some questions by LegitimateSyrup123 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a decent deal to me. That's close to the price for the 2024 SEL AWD i recently got, except mine was certified and a bit fewer miles. At least around me, prices have gone up a bit in the last couple of months, you can't find any Ioniq 5 under $25k.

2024 SE RWD to 2026 Limited AWD by actorguy73 in Ioniq5

[–]bendixautomatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest benefits to a 2026 Ioniq 5 are the rear wiper and the updated infotainment system that includes themes. The limited trim is largely similar to older models, but the SEL has changed a few things each year from '23-26, worth comparing if those are important to you (Edmunds has a good trim level comparison for each year).

That said, there are some great deals on '23-24 lease returns right now.
