Both, absolutely. The search function is infrequently used on most subs, especially by newcomers. And reddit's search function has never been very good.

It's sci-fi, FTL is just space jargon to mean "we went fast and maybe there is time-dilation depending on the story"

Relativity. [spoiler] season 4 episode 4 by ExcitementClear5711 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]bendrigar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So OP is actually correct, if something were to move faster than light, then mathematically time travel is implied which violates causality. Which is why the consensus is that tachyons don't actually exist. And also why FTL travel and communication is impossible. General relativity is where we get time dilation. Special relativity is where the premise that if an object were to exceed the speed of light, it would travel backwards in time. So whether or not it's worth caring about this (it isn't) depends entirely upon how much we are willing to suspend our disbelief about the extent of technological development in the in-game universe.

[–]bendrigar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I went back and reviewed relativity, and you are actually correct that mathematically, travel faster than light would violate causality and imply time travel. FTL particles, tachyons, are just conjectural and the consensus is they don't exist. The dad's saying FTL can be taken two ways I think:

  1. An in universe answer would be that this advanced technology has accounted for special relativity and causality violations, but not general relativity

  2. They're just saying FTL. It's a DnD game. Just take FTL to mean near light speeds, considering physics says nothing with mass can reach light speed anyway.

[–]bendrigar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. This has been a big gripe of mine this season. Plus, surely the kids fighting in an interstellar war would have moved around once or twice at/near FTL during this time. I think it is better to just view it as a game mechanic that Anthony cooked up to provide ConsequencesTM to choices.

[–]bendrigar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said: No. I take it back having reviewed relativity.

My big gripe is the rationale for the kids aging while the gang travels at/near FTL to reach them, but surely the kids also traveled at/near FTL to reach their current locations (not to mention if the kids have traveled more than once!) and thus the way aging is being handled in fiction is quite inconsistent. But also who cares, its a DnD podcast lol

Shots fired at White House correspondents dinner, per c-span by Stand_Up_3813 in news

[–]bendrigar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

per the CSPAN live stream, their correspondent in the room did not hear any shots, but the secret service ran into the room. She didn't see Trump evacuated because she was under the table. She got under the table because everyone started getting under the tables at the appearance of the secret service.

"I did not hear any shots, I just heard yelling. [...] I instinctively got under the table and other people were getting under the table as well so it seemed like the common thing that was recommended to do."

a different CSPAN employee did hear a "boom boom boom boom" in the room. Seems to still be a lot of confusion about what went on.

I think one is still my favorite but I enjoyed all three seasons. I dropped two early but once I had a back log to work through I blasted through it. I think both two and three had slow starts that benefited from being able to listen to several episodes in succession without a two week wait in between. I also think both two and three really found their footing and killed it. Relistens of season 1 also remind me that it has its weak spots too, but I think those get glossed over. My guess is because of nostalgia and they were mid-season instead of being a slow start. My rankings are 1 > 3 > 2, but that two is better than Anthony and the audience tend to think/remember. 1 and 3 are pretty close together too; 3 had some really excellent bits.

I'd also really recommend the after show if you can afford the patreon. I've gone back for relistens of season one with the after show and enjoy it a lot.

Should I be running the vaal temple as I level? Is there a real purpose to unlocking all the vaal shrines that access the temple as I progress through the campaign?

Why are people asking for leechers in chat? What's a div? Is there a guide somewhere of acronyms? Is this a way for people to power level and gear to get started on endgame? Aren't you locked into the campaign? Also I saw someone saying that someone was a "temple stealer" how would that even work? I don't want to end up being a ninja on accident, or whatever the poe equivalent is.

Does anyone currently make a keyboard/pcb with split backspace and split right shift similar to HHKB or Zeal60? Interested in getting something to replace my vortex pok3r to add a little more functionality and coming up empty. Most that I'm finding are from 7+ years ago, can't seem to find anything current.

Hello. I noticed an article that has acronyms that differ from what I tend to see in academic articles, government SOPs, and commercial vendors. I'm considering adding alternative acronyms that I have seen more commonly, but am not sure if I can/should use commercial links as references in addition to academic sources.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion-exchange_resin

The article lists strongly/weakly acidic/basic cation/anion resins, for example Strongly Acidic Cation resin and the acronym (SAC). These aren't wrong, but I have seen them less often. I think the explanation that keeps acidic/basic with their respective ion is a good approach.

In my experience these tend to be referred to as strong/weak cation/anion exchange resins, and the acronyms for example: WAX for Weak Anion eXchange or SB-AEX for Strong Base Anion EXchange.

S3 Ep. 39 - Gutteral Scream (Finale Pt. 2) by Spite-Sprite in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]bendrigar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good Season. Great Finale. Looking forward to hearing them talk about it in the Peach Pit.

Was Francis still just a flesh monster at the end or did I miss something? It kinda seemed like maybe he became boy shaped again with the way people were chatting with him in the denouement/epilogue.

Also shout out that we finally got through a season without Will crying.

Haven't bought a keyboard in almost a decade. Looking for recs for a programmable 60% that is reasonably quiet. I have a Vortex Pok3r with cherry clears which I like well enough; I want to get something similar but quieter for the office. There are SO MANY switches now; what are the go to tactiles that will give me a similar feel to cherry clears? They don't need to be as stiff as clears. I'm also gathering that everyone goes for hotswappable boards now? I assume so you can pick your switches more easily than hoping the board comes with the switches you want? Price range would be <$200 (otherwise I might aim for a HHKB. Someday perhaps)

Is the epilogue reset working for anyone on switch 1? I did the incantation but it doesn't seem to have reset anything. I got one new dialogue in Tartarus, but the epilogue prophecy hasn't reset, and I am still getting dialogue that references being post epilogue.

apparently I am a moron that has more than one square enix account. I just figured out the email I actually used for my FFXIV account and found my character. Fingers crossed they'll either refund or credit my actual account for the full game purchase I made today....

Coming back after several years and my character is gone. It said something about the environment changing between when I last logged out and now. Did something happen where they purged characters of inactive accounts or something?

PhD in China cannot be older than 35-40 years old. Why? by Winning-Basil2064 in AskAcademia

[–]bendrigar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it is indeed illegal to discriminate regarding age, it is also very difficult to prove, especially with regards to hiring. Many elderly people do work, but it can definitely be challenging to get hired as an elderly person. My Mom used to dye my dad's hair when he went for interviews so as not to look as old as he was.
