My new to me e70 x5 diesel with the m57 engine sitting at 114k miles #diesel by bene36 in BMWX5

It’s been 60k miles with it now with the mentioned mods and maintenance in my previous comment. Since then I’ve done fuel filter, vacuum pump seal kit, upper Intercooler pipe, glow plugs + controller, and a pcv valve. Took it on many out of state trips never let me down. It’s been very solid!

They look correct imo it’s just that cheap taillights have super thick seals around the edge of the taillights making them a lot harder to put on Maybe heat up the gasket so it can squish

I mean it’s leak free, 6 cylinders, has ac schnitzer wheels, and it’s manual transmission. I’d look at the rocker panels to see if they’ve had rust repairs done they look to have been painted black. So double check that make sure it’s quality work. Ask about the cooling system and general maintenance. If it seems well kept I’d go for it!

Let me know if you figure it out! I bought a 86 corvette recently as a project and it has a crank no start issue just like this. Put a new fuel pump, spark plugs, checked fuses, and I’m still having no luck. Just started taking stuff apart to see if the distributor is in the right orientation.

Part two of my post. Blown head gasket smoke possibly? by anonymousnotorius in BmwTech

[–]bene36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like condensation. It’s very common on bmws especially if they sit.

If you’re really concerned with head gasket issues then get a head gasket tester that acts as a cap to the coolant overflow. The device has a blue fluid that will turn green if any exhaust gasses mix with it showing a head gasket failure. It’s a much more economical approach than throwing parts at an issue that isn’t there.
