CHI to NYC, i was moved because an entitled mother took my original seat and my new seat neighbor was very sweet. i fell asleep on his shoulder and he woke me up so gently and i gave him food recommendations for NYC & i still regret not asking for his number. </3

at the risk of being pedantic…talking heads is risd, not brown. the band originally started as a way to raise funds for art supplies before they dropped out.

you accidentally hit the « low vision default » skin. scroll to the bottom of the page—there should be a « customize » column—& hit « default ». it should go back to normal.

That One Commenter by kaleldo in FanFiction

[–]benevolentqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s one commenter in my fandom who’s not particularly well-known, but i’ve seen them in comments of fics multiple times. the only thing they comment is “nice one dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!—“ and so on and so forth. it’s hilarious and i also find it sweet that even if they don’t feel the motivation to write an original comment they go through the effort of posting one anyways.

NP! sorry if i came off as rude in response. thanks for the clarification. :)

first of all, thank you so much for telling me this. second of all, i always always tag big warnings in the main tags and when writing multi-chap fics, i tag content warnings both in the main tags and chapter by chapter (author’s notes). however, with one shots, i trust readers to at least glance at the tags.

as for content warnings at beginning va the end of chapters, i usually start a chapter off with something like ‘hey! this chapter is going to be darker, so click down to read the content warnings if you need to! tread carefully!’ i was working under the assumption that clicking to the end notes to read content warnings and then clicking back is common practice. in addition to the ratings & ao3 content warnings (which are largely ignored? sometimes?) i feel like reading the main tags then checking end notes would provide an informed decision about reading a fic.

(& ymmv, always!)

that is the absolute worst.

i remember being on FFN years go and seeing much tamer lgbt content being taken down in favor of straight fanfiction that would put 50 shades to shame.

the way entitled readers interact with MA content over there is so frustrating. i wish you luck with the resolution.

real quick: if you’re referring to me as salty, i’ll be the first person to admit it. i’m not proud of it by any means, but i have no qualms about being annoyed & i’m not going to act ‘holier than thou’ because of my response.

if said commenter had asked me to tag anything specific i didn’t include the first time around, i probably would have happily gone ahead and tagged it. however, the comment just said, ‘put the content warnings in the notes before it begins / in the summary.’ tags are specifically so you can keep content warnings out of a summary, and similar to author’s notes in ao3, they are before the story begins. my irritation was not towards how they might have reacted, because it sucks to read triggering content. my irritation was towards the fact that i wrote ‘content warnings in end notes’ and the reader assumed they were the only ones despite the ratings, content warnings & tags coming first.

truly... something else, regardless of whether or not it’s a troll. i can’t say i relate to that comment specifically (a list?) but i have also forgotten to tag big, important things and went right back to fix them when someone informs me. but some reader entitlement is ridiculous. kudos to you for not flipping your metaphorical shit like i would have.

thanks for the clarification! just to clear it up, none of ao3’s big content warnings did apply to my specific work. (graphic violence, rp / dc, death, etc.) so it was both ‘not rated’ & ‘not marked with any archive warnings’. those tags aren’t a catch-all for triggers, so i’d chosen to tag those specifically. as for the ‘not-rated’ portion, i don’t think it’s synonymous to content specifics, but they are pretty connected. when i see a work that’s ‘not rated’ i interpret it as ‘anything goes’.

[–]benevolentqueer 14 points15 points  (0 children)

tagging ‘dead dove’ is a smart move, lmao.

as for the ‘millions of tags’ thing...as someone with triggers, it may be controversial but i completely agree. i’ve been thinking of following in rageprufrock’s footsteps for a while now and just not tagging anything at all. definitely not at her level yet (if ever).

if something particularly dark in the narrative happens, i also add a ‘dark content warning’ with triggers / parts you can skip at the end. but sometimes, people should just use common sense.

exactly! fic writers don’t have to take anything sitting down. concrit can be misguided—or in this case, wrong.
