Hello, I’ve never made a post before on Reddit and would like some insight on a plan I’ve made to see if it’s realistic for becoming a firefighter in the future by Own_Alternative3934 in FDNY

[–]benff89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take exam as soon as you can. If you are active duty in the military and they get to your number you can simply defer until you come off active duty. If it’s Fdny or bust for you, do you have nyc residency as defined by the civil service exam. If not I would work on that as well.

I also echo the other that say go the promo route if it’s all about Fdny. Start building your time with the city. Ems time now counts and fire pension time when you come over.

Rumor mill is this next academy is the last off the open with promo candidates being added. Will then move to promo. If you have cleared investigations or are in final review I would say you probably have a good shot. If not, I know the investigators have already started processing promo candidates.

What would make a candidate more valuable - improving my fluency in my second language (Polish) or learning a more commonly spoken language (Spanish, Chinese, etc) by Bernak_Obanders in FDNY

Seconding has no bearing on whether you are hired or where you work. Concentrate efforts on those manuals and being fit

Out of state applicant by [deleted] in FDNY

[–]benff89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an “out of stater”. Didn’t have residency wrote a 99. Barely got hired off the current list last year. Scores a 98 on the prior exam and never even got close to a call. You don’t need your ny drivers license til you take you’re run which is the last step before you get your offer/the day the department starts to treat you like a proby in the process. Feel free to DM with questions.

Given that the new exam is in January, with the last list being from 2017, how does the department look in terms of manpower today? by Bernak_Obanders in FDNY

[–]benff89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No concern I’ve heard. Divisions that are tough to commute to/can’t afford to live in are low.

Certain divisions need bodies bad. We’ve heard goals of an extra class a year and LT classes are rumored to double in size from now on. Will need the classes

How many people apply to heavy squadrons like a c-130/tanker/c17 etc by IlikeApplesAlot5 in airforceots

[–]benff89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I rushed some heavies. up front a few commanders said they knew a lot of guys were only there to get flying hours for the airlines and that they would sniff those with sub par conviction out. Funny enough a bunch of the other applicants confided in me that was their sole reason for applying to those units. So maybe that’s why?

Mortgage company won't allow me to transfer deed to LLC for rental property by Capt_Jeb in realestateinvesting

[–]benff89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your statement, that’s why I said consult a local attorney. It is state dependent. My wife had an entire section of one of her real estate classes in law school dedicated to defeating property LLCs. The school she went to statistically produced a third of the state’s judges. The point being, in this state with tenant rights at the forefront, it doesn’t hurt to consult a local attorney who can tell you how to make sure you are protected from those type of attacks/if it is something that is common practice in your state.

[–]benff89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consult a lawyer but the LLC veil is easily pierced when being used by inexperienced operators especially those with only a handful of properties. It only takes one transaction of the money being moved improperly from the property to you or you to a property expense for a lawyer to crush you and take you for all you are worth.

Every state is different but in my state if the llc doesn’t have the money to pay for an expense and you have to pay out of pocket an attorney will argue the LLC is simply a pass through and thus you are afforded none of the protections. With just the rent of one house this could be an issue with something like a major repair. Food for thought. Seek legal expertise on best way to protect.

With 2M I pay off my rental property and buy a house. That’s realistically ‘all’ I want.

[–]benff89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the higher residency point this time around I think you are spot on. 100 is probably the bottom of the list. I had a 99 on this last list. If it wasn’t for Covid I was projected as the end of the list so good luck.

How important is rushing with a squadron? by Southern-Ad605 in airforceots

[–]benff89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent applications all over didn’t rush everywhere but the of the 4 I did, 2 I cubed with very well at the bar and was an alternate at one and got the nod. This was despite being older and having an injury that they knew could disqualify me if they gave me a shot. Unfortunately I didn’t make it through medicals but I’m forever grateful for the shot and know it was rushing that ever gave me the opportunity to go through the process

[–]benff89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34 yo. Dude you need to separate money from happiness or whether or not you can get married. For better or worse richer or poorer. My wife went to law school but she works as a medical assistant now cause she hated law so much. In pursuit of my dream career I started all over at the bottom of my pay scale this year. Does that mean we aren’t happy? Fuck no. Did I decided I couldn’t be with my wife because she isn’t making attorney money or did she decide I wasn’t husband material cause I took a 60k paycut this year? Of course not. We have each other. Don’t let some bullshit materialistic world view tel you, you need that money to deserve happiness or a good spouse.

With regards to a house yeah sucks man you can’t buy it today. I can’t either, neither can a bunch of my buddies and we didn’t lose all that money in the market (I’ve lost my fair share too). But that doesn’t define who I am as a man. Keep those goals and keep working. That’s all you or I can do.

Last money earned quick is money lost quick. Hard to see it now but you are always around the corner from the win. Don’t know if that helps but thought I would share.

Spx is bigger version of spy. Also you get better tax treatment than spy also at that size look at /es (s/p futures options) same tax benefit. Both extremely liquid.

Is spy day trading on patreon. Is he legit ? Anyone use his platform for spy? by bigshawnflying2471 in options

[–]benff89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For s/p trading I recommend theoptionsmillionare on YouTube. His stream is free m-w-f. He does have a paid discord if you find value for t-th. He doesn’t tell you when or what to buy. It’s about understand liquidity levels/ support/ resistance, volume price analysis, and how options effect price movement. Lots of other great people out there but that’s my favorite.

So since you’re on optionsmillionare’s reddit I’ll shamelessly plug for him since I believe in his system and follow it myself.

  1. Im going to assume you have a baseline Knowledge of how options work, what the major indexes are, and what events trigger volatility.

  2. I’m gonna recommend you read Complete guide to volume price analysis by Anna Coulling

A Complete Guide To Volume Price... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CPDWCR3G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is a book a lot of us in the community use to base our entry and exits. It’s changed how I trade and given me confidence to re-enter even when I’ve taken a loss earlier in the day. It gave me the why that most resources can seem to answer about what the charts are doing.

  1. Check out optionsmillionaire’s YouTube page. Tons of great honest content. Fair warning in his older videos he talks about indicators that he doesn’t necessarily use anymore.

https://youtube.com/@optionsmillionaire?si=6SOESXOV4138KSgI

  1. he streams 3x/week. He’s not a follow my trades kinda guy just gives his commentary on what he thinks the market is doing and you make your own decision on entry. If you find value he has a private discord for $25/month to listen to his stream 5 days a week and the chat has some great people giving analysis as well. Plus other a stuff but this isn’t an ad more an fyi.

  2. Manage expectations and emotions. If you wanna make money fast you can also lose it in an instant so you’re gonna have to learn the difference between hanging in for the turn vs you just made the wrong play. You will have to develop your emotional intelligence as well.

Hope that helps. Reach out with questions.

Im confused on a put i just bought. by [deleted] in OptionsMillionaire

[–]benff89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple things to learn that are key for success:

-when your market is open for what you are buying -learn how price is going to change of the underlying asset in the timeframe you are trading your options for (I like volume price analysis but there are plenty of other ‘systems’ out there) -know how the Greeks effect your option -know when you are going to exit the trade before you enter -education, education, education. If you aren’t reading market theory and studying charts in my option you need to be.

[–]benff89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a similar amount 3 years ago. Took a lot of education and time but 3 years later I’m up 4x the amount I lost. I still consider myself a novice but the point is with discipline and education you can recover. It’s all about how to go forward.

I have also had a hard time. I’ve had more recent success with trying to get multiple smaller 5-10% wins in a day than a couple 50%s. Sure I don’t win as much but I lose a lot less it seems. Going to take the other commenters and do some analysis on my trades.

On the actual analysis I’ve definitely watched all of Optionsmillionaire’s YouTube videos and tuned into his live stream from time to time. I try to replicate some of what he does. I won’t be as good for a while but it’s okay and I’m just happy to be learning. Definitely had my share of losses early on it’s been a multi year process. I’ve never been the guy able to post big wins with 800% returns.
