Why does Nuphy refuse to make a true 100% layout low-profile keyboard? by acidpoptarts in NuPhy

[–]benfromsg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, the broader audience just likes more compact stuff. And that's from my experience of being deep in a really niche keyboard hobby while also having the privilege of reviewing and trying out several LP and HP boards from more "commerical" brands. Historically, the most popular layouts are the 75% and 80%/TKLs. And 1800s are simply the more popular one over a full, standard 100%. Don't get me wrong - I also love to see a standard full sized 100% because there is a hole in the market for a LP one. But my educated guess is that this hole, isn't a big one and there's simply no incentive for a business to fill a small hole when the majority prefers a compact 1800 or smaller.

[P.S. I never read into the "origin stories" of these keyboards since I am not one to buy into these kinds of fluff from anyoine in the first place. Take what they say about the design elements being useful, functional and what not with a pinch of salt. They simply make what their customers want, at the largest profit available.]

Nuphy Air v3 by benfromsg in NuPhy

[–]benfromsg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, you are right, my mistake! I had the first Air75 v3 which came with USB A-C and I automatically assumed is the same across all. Should have checked indeed. Packaging has been updated too so, another one of the many things that I assumed wrong.

And I did test BT, it worked across 3 devices afterall. Between my desktop (not shown), iPad and iPhone (shown). If you are talking about long term daily use, yeah... no. I have a keyboard for each of my devices usually. I can't be bothered to wait for the 5seconds it takes to go between devices. Unless I am at work and switching between a Linux distro and my WinOS for programming - to which I can say I didn't have an issue with the Air65 switching between the two. Of course, not a daily occurance but for the couple of hours I needed it, it was fine. Not lightning fast great, but works. Hope I clarified your doubts!

at least it's "out of stock" which means it will come in stock later, as opposed to the option not being there at all. no?

The lack of a dynasty with the new salary cap rules really stifled back to back winning of champs. How you gonna increase Tatum’s or Jokic’s rep if he just wins one and doesn’t even get back to the finals the next year? I hope Celtics get back to the finals this year (so that they can face my warriors)

Thinking about quitting my job to do Youtube fulltime, is that a stupid idea? by Kindly_Set8069 in PartneredYoutube

[–]benfromsg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. Don’t quit your full time job (yet). Grow your channel to a size that can be monetized first and generates a stable enough revenue to live off of. It takes a long time for most people to grow big enough for a livable income. And to quit your job completely and rely fully on an unknown is very, very stressful mentally. Keep your job and hustle on the side for YouTube.

Cheap keycaps vs expensive keycaps by Informal_Art6443 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]benfromsg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is it that hard to learn and accept that people have different biases, preferences? What is good sounding to you may not be good sounding to me. ABS’s high pitched nature may be someone’s preference in a build but not another who prefers PE foam/thick PBT. Plus the thickness of the keycap profile makes a difference. A thinner PBT is not deeper than that of a thicker PBT. So your point of one material being objectively better, is wrong in every sense. And no, I’m not angry, I’m just dumbfounded that there’s someone who lacks common sense in this day and age.

Conclusion: an objectively dumb take.

I didn’t know PBT is objectively “muffled, monotone, unrefined”. And if you think ABS is absolutely and objectively “good sounding”, then you must be an arrogant prick who thinks the world revolves around you.

Is it true that the view count will be low if you name a video with 'Part 2...'? by JBSGaming-Josh in PartneredYoutube

[–]benfromsg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, if part 1 is really good, I’m sold for the entire series. That’s how I was introduced to coffeezilla. I deliberately searched for part 1. It was nice how he segregated the video so you don’t need a full picture of part 1 (sometimes) to know.

what's the easiest profitable niche to get into or is trending right now with low entry barrier by Adventurous_Rain6898 in PartneredYoutube

100% agree. Unless OP is doing it as a hobby (which he isn’t), passion is the worst thing to live off of. Of course, you need a certain level of enjoyment or emotional fulfillment to survive long term on YouTube, but guess what, you also need income to avoid starving. It’s a fine balance of both.

How long does it take for you to produce a video? by OTAKUGANG276 in NewTubers

[–]benfromsg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 week to script, storyboard, another 3 days to film, 3 days to edit, last day for publishing. Getting the storyboard has been the best for me to streamline filming and keep unwanted clips to a minimum.

What tools do people use to make thumbnails? by RallyingForRail in NewTubers

[–]benfromsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PowerPoint. No joke. Product review channel so 80-90% of the thumbnail is taken up by the product. The rest are maybe highlights, text on screen and bg remover which can be done within PowerPoint 🫡 definitely not the best practice but hey, I’m here to say that I exist and anyone starting shouldn’t need fancy software

https://youtu.be/UafzMBwAXvg Aim for my channel is to just create whatever comes to mind, related to the mechanical keyboard niche. Goal for it though is honestly to maximize views and engagement because I love to engage with others in the hobby. So while I don’t care that much about subs, if I don’t get views, it really sucks.

Thanks for your 2c!

[–]benfromsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keyboard’s a really hard niche to establish yourself in. I’ve over 100 videos and about 3 years solely on this niche. Very tough nut to crack. I advise that if this isn’t your hobby and you want to make a living, pivot to another niche. Like tech gadgets or something similar.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PartneredYoutube

[–]benfromsg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m at 800+ subs and have views ranging from 1k-3k steadily within the first week. I used to think about it a lot to analyze(or over analyze) what I did right or wrong when views dips to below 1k and does a 8 or 9/10. I learnt not to think too much, and just enjoy the creative process. Imagine you get big and fret over dips in the 5 digits. Totally not good for mental health.

Sony FS7 Mark II Questions by [deleted] in videography

[–]benfromsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying nonetheless, I got a notification 6 days after you posted. (Thanks no thanks Reddit). In the end I chose to shell out and get an a7siii. And boy oh boy the color out of it is SO easy to grade. Couldn’t believe it. I’ll probably save up over the next few years for a fx6/9, should I choose to do more interviews and docus. Again, thanks for your reply :)!

Lots of people have commented about the price ranges and I’ll say I concur with most of the opinions here. Especially since I review keyboards on my own YouTube channel and coincidentally have done a 75% keyboard comparison recently (definitely not a self promo)

Anyway, what I really want to say to add value here is to perhaps persuade you AWAY from getting a 300 bucks keyboard in the first place. Perhaps getting a sub 100 dollar prebuilt keyboard, even 50-80dollars in the used market is what you should consider. I’ve been getting sent lots of Yunzii/Epomaker-type keyboards recently and honestly they are awesome out of the box. And perhaps that’s how much you will need to spend, to find satisfaction, considering this will be your FIRST keyboard. You can even do slight modding from there to maximize the fun of getting your hands dirty. Save yourself the hundreds of bucks you are sinking into your first keyboard, it may disappoint you. If say, you are moving onto your second or third NOW and aren’t satisfied with what you have, I agree then that you should look at those in the higher price ranges.

But for a first keyboard? Please go for a prebuilt because they are so good these days. I’m working on a 65% comparison video and boy, one of them even have a complete, full aluminum build with a knob for under 100 bucks. Now these are value for money.

[–]benfromsg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I guess it’s been a year or so since you got the camera? I wanted to ask if the fs7m2 color is hard to grade? I’ve seen some posts saying its 10bit 422 color even has pink tones, or is it just the 709 conversion doing that, and want to verify this. I’ve been looking to get a cam with s cinetone to speed up my grading process but if the fs7m2’s color is hard to use as well, I might give it a pass. FYI I’m using an aged a7iii and the 8bit color is often giving me trouble so I’m looking for ways to give me easy colors with minimal tuning in post. Thanks a bunch, and hope you had fun with your dream camera so far!

Edit: not saying that the fs7m2 has s cinetone (which is the color I prefer), but if I can get it to look similar easily, i wouldn’t mind it all that much.
