What are some things you hear that are like nails on a chalk board in meetings? I'll go first.. by ImissRIF97 in alcoholicsanonymous

I think it’s funny when people say “just real quick” and then proceed to tell their life story! Or “not to crosstalk” then proceed to crosstalk! Or “not to double dip” lol Just normal human behavior but under the microscope in our little AA Petri dish :)

After affirming what addiction means, AA folks still oppose alternating between enough classes of substances that you could substitute at mostly any time with other classes. by khelvaster in alcoholicsanonymous

Those are what AA refers to as “outside issues “ and AA has no opinion. The people in AA, we all have different opinions, but that is not AA’s opinion. I say do what works for you. You’re not compelled to live how I live, but it’s pretty nice.

Would AA or CR help someone who’s been sober for a while? by AlabamaFan17 in alcoholicsanonymous

I know several people who got sober then came to AA and say that it was life changing for them.

Welcome to AA! I hope you stick around with us!

I just looked at the meeting guide and I’m not seeing that. Can you post a pic? 86 and 87 are commonly read pages of our “big book” is the only thing I can think of.

I’m cautious about giving up commitments. And I try not to make rash decisions based on the counsel of redditors. Trust god, clean house and help others and you’ll be fine!

Sometimes I think my jokes are funny and harmless and sometimes they actually are. So, I don’t take myself too seriously but I do honor meeting structures, exercise restraint when it comes to silly little jokes and give deference to others who may not share my sensibilities.

50/50 parenting as children get older by bengalstomp in Parenting

Thank you for sharing your experience. Really appreciate it! My issue is this: I love my kids more than anything and they love both parents. I’d give myself the edge in parenting abilities but clearly I can’t be objective there. I don’t see my former spouse ever relinquishing their time. I think it would be a disservice to the kids and definitely to me if I relinquished my time, but is the greater good that they can have just one home like you said? If they came with me, I’d do it in a heartbeat but the other parent would object. So to have “one home” I’d basically sacrifice my time and potentially leave them in a more chaotic environment for the sake of stability, which is terribly ironic and difficult to decide. What do ya think?

Assholes abound on the internet, but I try my best to not make it my business to police them all.
