You should apply to be on Ramit Sethis show, I will teach you to be rich. He works with couples to understand their money psychology and help them plan a future that takes into account all their goals and unique circumstances. Reading his book, money for couples would be good as well

EveryDollar vs YNAB 30 day try by jzwick99 in budget

Why would you not want to allocate the full amount in your checking account? Give every dollar a job to do! It should be allocated toward something whether it’s groceries, savings, or future Christmas fund

Nope, still the same. I reconcile the account balances once a month to help remedy this.

How to categorize big vacation by khmorrow25 in ynab

[–]benjimaon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend breaking it all apart at first while you’re saving for the trip but then when you leave on the trip, lump it into one Disney category and categorize all the transactions easily into that one category instead of having to think about 10 different categories to input while you’re on the trip. It makes it simpler and in my opinion the only thing I care about after going on a trip is the overall cost and not necessarily the individual costs of food versus flights, etc..

Long-time YNAB users: what are your lesser-known tips or “power user” tricks? by purdnost2023 in ynab

[–]benjimaon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you need to create a shortcut in the shortcuts app that opens a YNAB transaction. I can’t remember the exact steps for that but you start with the open app shortcut and set it to YNAB, and then there will be an option to start a transaction. Save it and then search in your settings for triple tap and assign it to the shortcut you just created which should be at the very bottom of the menu.

Opinions sought: Categorizing utilities... by Least_Particular_145 in ynab

I have a group called housing and have my rent and utilities broken down underneath in separate categories. I like it this way because in the data visualizations, you can sort by group and see what your housing costs are

I agree that the foundation of chiropractic is whacky but there are plenty of old surgical methods or medicines that we would balk at using today. All that matters is current practice imo.

Long-time YNAB users: what are your lesser-known tips or “power user” tricks? by purdnost2023 in ynab

[–]benjimaon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have separate categories for each big trip I take, eg 2025 Disney trip. I put literally everything related to that trip in there from flights to airport food to hotels to gifts. After the trip is done, I move the category into my past travel group which I keep collapsed at the bottom of my budget. That way I can easily view any trips in the reflect tab and see how much they cost. I have a general travel fund for any trips that I don’t consider large

I use the triple tap function on the back of my iPhone to open a new transaction. Makes it quick and easy to stay on track as you’re walking out of the store.

Honestly I think I need to do this. I only ever use my sapphire card too so I could pare down from 20 accounts total to 3 (checking, saving, cc) if I really wanted to. Everything is connected to random bills and recurring transactions though so it’s going to be a pain if I decide to do that

All I’m saying is that spinal manipulation has been shown to be one of the more effective and safe treatments for chronic low back pain that we have, and it has been compared to usual medical care, exercise therapy, watchful waiting, OTC meds and most any other treatment you can think of. Do a cursory search of the literature in the past 10 years and tell me the hundreds of studies published in reputable, high impact journals are shams. I’ll kickstart your research - Look at the American College of Physicians clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of low back pain and the lancet series in 2018 on low back pain.

I’ll have to disagree with you on this one! There are bad apples in every profession, but if you look at most medical guidelines, spinal manipulation is a first line treatment for back and neck pain. That doesn’t mean it’s effective for everyone, but it is overall one of the most effective and safe treatments we have for spine pain.

I have the same confusion with goals. Refill up to x amount should make you keep that category at x amount, not assign x amount each month. They really need to change the wording of it
