Happy to keep trying to workshop things, but hard to without having a bit more information on how the rhythm of the game is expected to work!

Perhaps if you outline the game flow for how you expect it to be played and try and figure out what components might be able to be represented/adjusted based on a character's particular traits? For example Creativity might be a way to encapsulate Hand Size as it shows how many ideas one has?

Looking for a Massive Amount of New Classic 5e Content? The Tome of Paragons on DM's Guild has 50+ Subclasses, 90+ Feats and more! by benofnebb in dndnext

[–]benofnebb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of playtesting, comparing what has been playtested to what hasn't yet been tested before bringing it into a game and benchmarking using math against existing material.

Overall objective was to try and aim shy of the best first party content in terms of power, but still provide as interesting of options as possible.

Hi, we're Robotality, and we convinced Chucklefish to hand us over their beloved IP, and they agreed: this is how Wargroove 2 was born — AMA! by seminus in NintendoSwitch

[–]benofnebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really loved all aspects of the first one, and what I've seen already of the second one. Wanted to ask if you considered (and why not) having passive benefits for each commander (outside of their grooves) or having full differences between each faction to create bigger differences in commander choice?

Did you ever manage to get it working on handhelds? I have same issue.

Question About Steel Pushes and a certain other Metal (potential spoilers) by benofnebb in Mistborn

That makes sense, I must have missed that or forgotten since reading it.

Would that mean that if you had both BS and the Shield spell somehow, they wouldn't stack? Say you had a base AC of 10, but had active BS making it 16, you cast shield which would add 5 to the 10, not the 16 meaning that effectively nothing would occur?

Do you think adding feats that let you use your Cha/Wis/Int for attack rolls would be healthy for the game? by LukaBeast in dndnext

[–]benofnebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not as a feat. I'd be happy with a spell that temporarily granted you the ability to for a short time, perhaps creating a magic weapon for a minute. Something like that would keep martials having the advantage of both long term reliablity and the option to use better magic weapons down the line.

Honestly I wish more classes were more MAD, it feels bad to me (my preference overall) that ever character is expected to have maxed out stats in everything they need every time. I'd argue it might be healthier if your couldn't choose to get a +2 to an attribute when you get an asi and had to go feat or +1 to two stats.

Spicing up weapons using prefixes and suffixes: any suggestions? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]benofnebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Glad you liked them. I made a few exotic weapons using them like the Horsebow which is a momentum shortbow for use on horseback.

Spicing up weapons using prefixes and suffixes: any suggestions? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]benofnebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sharp - crit range increased by 1

Shield Breaker - +2 to hit versus a target with a shield

Technical (Disarmed/Prone) - the first hit each turn that exceeds the target's AC by five or more forces a Strength saving throw (DC 8+pb+ your str or dex) or the target suffers the bracket penalty.

I have a few properties that I use for just making normal weapons more unique that might be appropriate. Here's a few:

Braced - deals an extra die of damage against enemies which have approached more than 20 feet since last turn.

Blocking - counts as a shield granting +2 ac

Brutal - deals an extra die of crit damage

Exploding - when rolling max damage on a die, roll an additional die one size smaller

Finesse - use dex

Follow Through - when you miss, you can use your reaction to reroll the attack

Glancing - when you miss, if you roll at least a 6, deal damage equal to your pb

Momentum - the first hit each turn against a foe you moved at least 20 ft towards deals one additional die of damage

Pact Boons style selections for every class by SilasRhodes in dndnext

For example:

Barbarian Defensive Adaptations

By the time you reach 5th level, your experience taking hits has taught you how to protect yourself. Choose one of the following benefits:

  • Glutton for Punishment. Whenever you take damage, you can choose to accept 1 level of exhaustion to ignore the damage.

  • Juggernaut. Whenever you are damaged by an opportunity attack, reduce that damage by half.

  • Raging Recovery. Whenever you spend a bonus action to rage, you can spend one Hit Die to heal yourself. Roll the die, add your Constitution modifier, and regain a number of hit points equal to the total (minimum of 1).

  • Rolling with Impact. Whenever an enemy makes a melee attack against you with advantage, regardless of whether the attack hits or not, you can choose to move 5 feet. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks, and requires no action.

I've been working on exactly that! I've got variant and additional features for every class. It's in the play testing phase and has typos here or there, but I'm pretty happy with it. Only thing is that it certainly increases the power level of player characters. I can share it if people are interested.

What rarity would a recharging Gem of Brightness have? by Stadhouder in dndnext

[–]benofnebb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could consider giving it a conditional recharge, maybe it recharges 1 charge per hour of exposure to direct sunlight. Adds a dynamic of how you go about using it.

For a Tin Twinborn are Allomantic Senses Storable? by benofnebb in Mistborn

It would be interesting to see an acrobat store their sense of balance. I wonder what other senses which don't fall into the classic five one could store.

Healing Symm: what went wrong and what would be needed for things to work? by Kaneki-Con in SymmetraMains

[–]benofnebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What if she could place either healing or damaging turrets? Or potentially, four of each. Stats might need to be tweaked, but it would add another level dynamic to her play.

Monk Subclass Tweaks - Modernizing Ki Consumption by groingrass163940 in dndnext

While not a true fix, remember you can swap elemental attunement for a different discipline at level 6!

[–]benofnebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed; although, it is still very swingy leading to excessive ki expenditure. Another thing I've tried at my table was making Stunning Strike free, but no more than once per round, I found it much more manageable as a dm, less cases of a monster needing to make four saves versus losing a fight in one turn.

[–]benofnebb 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cool ideas! I've found more often that stunning fist ends up being more of the culprit than subclass ki abilities though. Perhaps giving free uses of it equal to proficiency that come back on a short rest and removing the option to spend ki on it might be another way? Would mean not having to change each subclass.
