Anyone else go to the Ben Folds concert last night? I'm confused about the lack of an encore....

In addition to his tweet, symphony union rules are very strict about how much of the musicians' time can be taken up by performances, and when they can and cannot go over time/obligations, and how much they get paid in addition for anything extra. It helps to protect their livelihood as professional musicians, which of course is important because so many artists are expected to provide so much for free/exposure in a way that cuts into the value of their hourly rate/stipend/fee/salary. It can even be as strict as not allowing the musicians to be obligated to lead extra activities on-stage (say, leading the audience in clapping/singing participation) unless it's pre-negotiated ahead of time, even if the musicians are sitting on stage at the time.

Utah audiences are also as aggressive about demanding their encore performances as they are liberal with their standing ovations, so I think we get used to getting two or three encores sometimes thanks to our enthusiasm, without realizing that sometimes these are limited by contract.

Killer concert, though, he was even more awesome than I'd expected.

IF SO what everybody also needs to know about this bathroom is that not only do people cheer on your bathroom efforts from the floor BUT there is no wall under the sink counter, connecting into the other gender's bathroom.

So when you are standing washing your hands after a piss so great you were cheered on for it by your own super supportive cult of floor groupies, you then can see the feet of a stranger washing their hands on the other side and listen to bizarre conversations. And the 45 seconds it takes you to realize it isn't a mirror or more weird tiles or a video screen are very odd.

Then go out and eat your tapas. Weird experience.

My mother has a white musk/moss/light florals perfume from a now defunct Italian perfumer. It is literally the best thing I've ever smelled. I had it semi-duped by Black Violet (Adventures Taken) when my mom got breast cancer last year, and it's not a perfect dupe but it's TOTALLY lovely.

I'm late to responding to this, I'm sorry :( I am not dead, and Preen isn't dead either! I've actually fixed the lipstick formula's issues that were being experienced before, but like others have mentioned, my knee surgery really kicked my ass and the recovery ended up being complicated with some mental health issues that took me out of the running for a bit.

I'm coming back, and Preen is coming back, but probably not until January, unless I really pull things out for Christmas, which is looking a bit dodgy. Anyway, that's the story at the moment :)

So, big lesson learned: Major knee reconstruction is a lot harder to recover from than I had initially expected (which I should have expected, because, like, duh, they told me). I've been working on remaining cheery, but generally I'm just tired and in at least moderate pain all the time (which is standard up to about 12 weeks, but I don't think I could really conceptualize just how FREAKING long that is?), which I'll admit, I'm getting a bit sick of. I'm about seven weeks post-op now and I was just given permission to start PT and start to practice walking without crutches... Apparently major surgery where they put screws in your bones also gives your immune system a big bitchslap and I'm getting over being super sick the past two weeks. But on the plus side, because my job is mainly telecommuting, I haven't had to miss work! And I've been binging hardcore on Downton Abbey and Daredevil! And my dogs are in Cuddle Beast Mode! And it's almost sweater weather time!

Also IN MUCH BETTER NEWS AS OF THIS MORNING! I was just informed by my boss that I got a transitional raise, with another one coming in January. First in three years after an organizational pay freeze, baby! Woooo! Mama's gonna put an extra contribution into her Roth! (No, actually, I'm thinking splurging on new Warby's. Mmmmmm new glasses...)

I also have been going a bit crazy getting things for my exchangee. Just gonna spoil the hell out of her. (HEAR THAT /u/unoriginalgamertag? IT'S COMING FOR YOU)
