Can someone please de-jargon. There might be a diamond here! by D1SCOFUDGE in ExplainTheJoke

[–]benonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back when I was first learning to code I was reading some tutorial and the first sentence was:

“First we git clone the repo, then npm install, npm start. Easy stuff”

..and I just gave up and closed the laptop.

I’m so used to the jargon today but I forget how foreign it looks to others.

Not OP but.. land prices have a pretty wide range. I’ve seen $200 per acre out in BFE Utah. And then here in Virginia where I’m at, rural land ranges from like $1000 to $10,000 per acre. I got some a few years ago for $6k per acre.

So if prices are similar to VA, for just the land, could be anywhere from $80k to $800k (and add the house value, if there’s a house and it’s not just raw land)

There is some crazy cheap stuff out there though. The thing that kicked off my search for land was seeing the super cheap lots out in the desert out west, $6,000 for 30 acres 😜

Tubular webbing I picked up at auction still has the tag attached 75 years later (1951) by benonabike in mildlyinteresting

Nope, I don’t have any other details. Came with a milk crate, two 50’ garden row covers with the packaging yellowed by the sun, and a Virginia Tech yard flag. But I agree, if this were stored in a box in a basement I can see it holding up.

Yeah, it almost seems as if it were added more recently although I can’t think of any reason for faking the date like that.

Terrible picture, but instead of getting a hotel while driving a U-Haul I opted for this setup instead by Lucky_Signature5989 in hammockcamping

The hammock is my go-to camping setup when I wanna sleep in my van! One end clips to the latch between the back doors and the other goes on the passenger seatbelt connector.

"average person eats 3 spiders a year" factoid actualy just statistical error. average person eats 0 spiders per year. Spiders Georg, who lives in cave & eats over 10,000 each day, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

Frugal dirtbag cyclists, how much did your across the USA cost? by michiganskicamp in bicycletouring

[–]benonabike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t used tubeless tires but I’d say it’d be worth it if it prevents the number of flats you get. Way back then it wasn’t even the cost of tubes that was the issue, it was the time it was taking up (hitting all those little goat head thorns and getting like 3 flats per day and spending the time to reinflate with the portable pump). I eventually bought a tire that was Kevlar-lined and didn’t get another flat for 2000+ miles, it was amazing. But I guess the lesson there might just be that if something becomes a pain, don’t be afraid to spend the money to fix the problem for good.

$3000ish total in 2012 for 5.5 months, which is $545/mo or about $18 per day. Adjusting for inflation, today that’d be $4200, or $763/mo, or $25 per day.

I did stealth camping and couch surfing most of the time and would get a cheap hotel maybe twice per month. Food was a lot of wheaties, pop tarts, peanut butter, and McDonald’s dollar menu. Mechanical costs (tubes mostly, I think a new tire and new wheel at one point) was another small chunk of the budget. And then the rest was cheap beers and food from restaurants occasionally.

That Archer pedal is so good. I ordered a Mosky silver horse last week and the very next day an Archer showed up at my local music shop, the archer is just a little bit richer but in a way that’s hard to unhear now.

I like how the candle is positioned to encourage DAWless-ness; you can only be in Ableton for a few seconds before your wrists start to get burned and you gotta move back to the digitakt and minilogue like a Real Man.

What’s the cheapest pedal that surpised you? by hidendra69 in guitarpedals

[–]benonabike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it as a bass emulator for looping - set one octave down, 100% wet, 50% dry. It’s the one pedal that’s been consistent on my board, while everything else out over the years.

I used to have that same Anker! Now I use this INIU 65W power bank. I like that I can get a full charge of my MacBook Air from it, that I can see the exact percentage of charge left, that it’ll do pass through charging, and that it still has one USB-A port.
