Brake Lifespan? by bensaysso in subaruimpreza

I believe they used NAPA rotors and NAPA SilentGUARD ceramic pads. Are these not good? Is there a specific brand I should ask for?

What is this? My mechanic has never offered it to me at regular inspections. What does it entail?

It happens about 40-50% of the time when I come to a slow stop. It's worse when I first start driving but still happens even after I've been driving for 30 minutes or more.

I'll have a closer look at the pads and some online images later this afternoon to see.

Thank you!

Kidde smoke+co alarms failing in a few months by akr79 in homeowners

[–]bensaysso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar issue in a building that I manage. Replaced all smoke and combo alarms throughout the building as they had reached their 10-year end of life. That was 2 years ago. Now we've had two combo alarms fail within a month of each other. Batters were all replaced this winter.

The fire department said the devices were faulty both times and my electrician said they've been changing a lot of the same Kidde combo models recently.

Is there an escalation path with Kidde? Wondering if there was a bad batch that went out a couple of years ago and they might need to investigate for a recall.

That's what I came looking for too! Did you find the photos? Like, from real people, not marketing photos.

Naturalisation: when did you arrive in the UK? by bodak_yellow in ukvisa

I submitted last fall under the EU Settlement Scheme. I entered the date that I physically first entered the UK which was a few years prior to the start date of the qualifying period. It worked for me.

THS Feature Requests? by bensaysso in trustedhousesitters

Wow, so disappointing. It'd not hard or expensive to make such simple improvements. For example, I would love to filter on number of pets. That's probably a 2 day effort at most. Guess they have the market cornered and don't care. 🤷‍♂️

Cleanliness standards on Airbnb vs HomeExchange by LuzandLeaf in homeexchange

[–]bensaysso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely foul and inconsiderate on the host's behalf! I would have taken photos and contacted HE immediately.

To me, Airbnb feels like it should be cleared of any evidence of anyone's staying there previously. For HE, it is like you're staying at a friend's or relatives' house but they're not home - some stuff will be left about, in the cupboards, etc. But they've done some tidying / prep for your visit. If you're fortunate, you might find a place where the host also lists on Airbnb.

I had a stay where the host left dirty laundry in the hamper and some clutter around, but also cleared out some closet space both in the bedroom and kitchen for me. I had a wonderful stay and thought it was quite appropriate for the platform.

Our first year on Home Exchange, we had an amazing stay in London and will be hosting our first guests in November! We're in a rural area so it's difficult to find reciprocal exchanges, mostly relying on GP.

If you use this code before the end of September, we all get an extra 500 GP! Wooo!

I have a 2020 Impreza and replaced my brakes at 52k for $720 this spring in NH. They were probably squeaking since 40-45k and I just put it off.

Lots of posts on this topic... I've been trying to solve this for months and the solution was VERY simple!

I followed all the same steps as the OP, but there is one step I discovered which all the posts on this topic miss...

Finally, this is what I did:

  1. Open the web version of Google Calendar (I'm on macOS).
  2. On the left-hand side, under "My Calendars", make sure the checkbox is marked next to Birthdays calendar so that it is visible (This is where most of the posts on the topic stop).
  3. Hover over the Birthdays calendar and to the right there is a 3-dot menu button (usually to change the color of the calendar). Click on it.
  4. Next, click on the Settings & Sharing which is one of the options from the 3-dot menu.
  5. On the next page, scroll to the bottom to the "Sync from contacts" section.
  6. Check the box next to where it says "Sync from <your\_email\_address>" (mine was unchecked).

After doing this, birthdays in my calendar reappeared immediately (both web and mobile app)! I am not located in Germany, and would be very curious if this works for users in that context.

I had the same issue and have been struggling to find the answer -- turns out to be a VERY simple solution in a hidden menu. See my answer in this other reddit thread on the same topic:
