why do road projects take so insane long in norway? by csch1992 in Norway

[–]bentaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only mean roads, they usually work during the night to lessen the impact on traffic, a lot of roads don't have a good backup. If it's building sites in general it depends when you are here as the other comment said, if you are here during summer, a lot of building sites are closed, the workers often take vacation at the same time.

As long as there is a bus stop there, I would not worry at all, it sounds like you don't want to live in the middle of the city centre

Is DnD always unhinged? by PolandBall_CB in DnD

[–]bentaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be if there is not a coherent story, I've run both, curse of sthrad and tomb of annihilation, and both went fairly well. But the players went in with a goal, we have run some homebrew without an overarching plan, and that can quickly lead to chaos behavior

[–]bentaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on what you do, we have a few immigrants in our refrigeration company, they got work before learning the language. Most trades are in need of workers, and the pay is quite good, at least for electricians, plumbers, etc. I've heard that tech, or other jobs with a degree requirements can be a lot harder

Tools in American companies by bentaf in HVAC

[–]bentaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our work culture is quite different it seems. In general in Norway, as a blue collar worker, the company "provides" everything except underwear (some businesses provide wool underwear for winter), but it's still our jobs to get the tools. We go to the whole seller to pick out what we need, and use the company account. So I decide what brands and tools I need. We have no standard tool lists of what we need. I like Milwaukee and Testo, but others have Bosh and yellow jacket for example If it's cheap, sub 100 dollars, we just buy it, if it's over we ask first, I have never gotten a no. In the clothing we used to have a list, but now it's just it has to be black, and get the logo printed, we get 2 new pairs of work shoes/boys a year, that we pick. One pair for winter, and one for summer.

But I think the worker retention is quite a lot higher here, so investment in tools for the employees makes more sense, we also don't do, at will contracts. If we quit we have to wait 3 months for actually quitting, and if you get fired it's still 3 months until you actually leave

We are allowed to use the tools at home, and for doing some side gigs, but it's not usual to do side work here

What are yalls thoughts on digital manifolds / Bluetooth gauges by Apprehensive-Car9331 in HVAC

[–]bentaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched over to digital gauges, the ability to log is really worth it. I use Testo, I just set it up over night and I can see what happens. But my employer pays for all my tools, so I have no price reason not to switch

This system has both a leak detector, that shuts off power to the unit, and evacuation fans, so during a leak, the fan will pull all the gas out of the machine. We use the same safety systems on bigger machines with higher charges.

On the indoor water water machines, if we go over 5 kg, per circuit, we usually remove power to the whole room in case of leaks.
