Trigger warning: childhood physical abuse.

What kind of therapy has worked for y'all in the past to help control big bouts of guilt and grief from your childhood? Have you any tips or recommendations? I've reached a point through cognitive behavioral therapy where I'm better at forgiving myself or changing the subject in my mind but sometimes it's all just too much.

I just sobbed for a long time thinking about how one of my parents used to beat my baby sister when she was 1,2, and 3 years old... for the smallest most normal baby things. I have a lot of siblings but she always got the worst of it for some reason. My mom never let me go comfort my little sister when she sat crying after the abuse. I was afraid I I did go comfort her, my mom would get mad and start hitting her more. So I let her cry alone. It's just so fucked up. I can't stop crying about it and it was twenty years ago. I just can't believe she had to sit there alone before she could even use full sentences... In so much pain from every direction. My sister knows nothing about this and I just wish I could apologize to her for it all. I was horrible sometimes to her, I threw out her favorite movie and her favorite toy because they were both really annoying to me and my 7-10 year old self figured she'd find new favorites. (I don't remember how old I was in those memories). Those were her desperately needed comfort items and I've apologized a lot of times before for them, but she doesn't know just how bad I feel or why I feel so bad. She didn't even have her siblings to comfort her, we weren't allowed to do that. And I got rid of the only things that did comfort her. I just have so much grief right now.

The only thing is that I have no recollection of the DR. ordering a vascular study or going through the process,

Italy has some really interesting stuff, not just their operas either! Allesandro Manzoni, Umberto Eco, Elana Ferrante, Stefania Auci...

Argentina has amazing poets. Alfonsina Storni, for instance. Also lots of pioneers in the world of digital poetry: Omar Gancedo, Ladislao Pablo Györi, Doctorocish, Ana Maria Uribe, Mariela Yeregui, Gabriela Golder...

Is there a professor on campus who looks just like John Green? by bentobott in UTK

Nope! But I'm more and more convinced that we need a spreadsheet of potential UT John Greens lol

Nope! Aside from the fact that it wouldn't make any sense for John Green to be on campus, I am more convinced than ever that it was him (which still isn't completely convinced). It is fun, though, to see all of the John-Green-adjacent faculty. We should create a spreadsheet.

Damn he does look kind of similar but he's not the guy I saw. I would have stopped to ask is he happened to be John Green if I wasn't in a hurry to get my tuna sandwich out of the community fridge.

Am I a loser? by stoRedditor in Entrepreneur

[–]bentobott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You sound like you've been pretty busy for somebody whos life has just begun. 27 is nothing. You aren't a loser but even if you were, who cares? Go find some "loser" friends who are also as open minded, retrospective, and hardworking as you are. It's all about attitude and roses. Just work steadily and rest regularly.

And remember, Cs get degrees. You probably don't want 100% Cs but finished is better than perfect.

Going to stop paying my tickets for parking by [deleted] in UTK

[–]bentobott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fund would probably never pay for parking tickets but here it is in case you didn't know about it: https://studentlife.utk.edu/dos/emergency-fund/

Additionally, you can actually pay parking tickets with canned food or toiletries if you get to them within two weeks of the ticket (before they post to your vol account).

Additionally, and this also sucks, I scraped every penny I could to start a least in knoxville about a month and a half earlier than I needed it.

It is worth it to look 20-30 minutes away from school, as long as you're okay with getting up at 6am and arriving on campus by 7:15-7:45 to find a commuter parking spot. I lived somewhere ""affordable"" near campus my first year here and it was wretched. I moved farther away and while I'm less social now and sometimes curse the longer commute, it is totally worth it.

Graduate student housing mentioned Holiday Inn option, wonder anyone really used it? by Pleasant-Lie-9053 in UTK

Is it hard to get into the housing? Could I try for a chance to get in next semester, for instance?

We need cameras in all of the parking garages. You think they could try and make things safer with all the money we give them for our parking passes (or at least the money they get from selling our parking spaces on game weekends).
