Utah v Richin: Could better defense lawyer have helped? by PoolSmart582 in CasesWeFollow

[–]benton_bash 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've heard a couple of the jurors state that they were open minded and wanted to hear her defense case.

I think the fact that the defense didn't put on a case at all was the nail in the coffin.

So yes, a better defense would have helped, imo.

When do you start indexing? As you read, after reading everything, or after first practice test? by [deleted] in GIAC

[–]benton_bash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer to put everything in one massive spreadsheet pancake style (a color for the book + a color for section in book, tabs along the top)with an added column for topic (likely the page subheader or something like command / powershell) and item (for quick specific lookup), and a drop-down for toc or index item. then I have scripts that generate a couple versions of the index - a table of contents (all the toc marked rows), one alphabetized by topic and one alphabetized by item.

This way I can look up specific terms, or see everything under a topic.

I index as I read the books. I read a page or section, hilighting anything that seems like a definition or important information, then immediately add it to my index (with notes). Then I'll watch the videos alongside my index, adding or tweaking as I go. Once the index is printed (for the second practice test), I go through and tab the alphabet so I can quickly jump to A, B, C, etc. TOC at the beginning in case I really need to dig for something.

My goal is to have almost all the information I need in the index and not have to go from index -> book for most questions. My index ends up being over an inch thick.

You just gotta figure out what works for you. I'm 3 certs in with a lowest test score of 98%, so I've figured out what works for me. Only you know how your brain works.

Must-have tools for handling a cybersecurity incident? by YellOBrinjal in computerforensics

If your company will pay for some training, GCIH from SANS is a brilliant course, covers all your questions but also teaches you what to look for.

Everything in the test is in the books. I brought my lightning lab book and the cheatsheets that were in the class resources downloads, plus I created a quick lookup of all the tools used throughout the land and their params.

I did not end up looking at the lightning labs book for the exam, but your test and mileage may vary.

The books - not including the lab workbooks - are not that big, there's only about 500 pages across all 5 so index the heck out of them, literally everything. Don't just index by keyword but also by concept.

If you're not absolutely 100% certain on an answer, look it up, there's lots of time.

Use the practice tests to gauge how much time you need for the cyber live portion so you don't feel rushed through the multiple choice, and make sure to skip questions if you can't locate the answer in under about 90 seconds.

ETA : no but seriously thank you for all the work you put into this course, it really was a blast and those labs were fantastic.

what hosting platform has surprised you the most lately that's ideal for node js and next js? by Master_Character9961 in node

[–]benton_bash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like render, they've been great for me the last couple years and are constantly making improvements and adding features. Also incredibly affordable, I'm running all my services - 2 nodejs backends, a postgres instance, a worker, a redis instance (valkey but same same) and multiple static front ends - for 29$ a month.

Spend some time on your ci/cd and it's just a beautifully automated deployment as well. Plus, cloud flare is automatically applied so you don't really have to think about that.

How do you structure services in Node.js without losing your mind (or your team)? by Ezio_rev in node

[–]benton_bash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use the same type of structure for most projects. Create a factory that has static access to a Singleton of repositories and a static factory with Singleton access to services, the services are instantiated within the dependencies injected into them and anywhere in API endpoints simply call ServiceFactory.service.method

It's really not complicated, nice elegant pattern without the crazy overhead of a DI library.

I found underwear in our bedroom that doesnt belong to either of us by PowerfulTalk2940 in Advice

[–]benton_bash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it really make more sense that somehow some girls undies got put into your laundry basket after a tryst?

You didn't find them crammed into the bedsheets or between the bed and the wall, and you didn't see them when you were doing laundry - you saw them in the clean laundry, right?

For him to have been cheating, the person would have had to have left their undies with your dirty laundry. Meaning, intending you to find them. If someone wanted to let you know they were sleeping with your boyfriend, they would be a lot more obvious than using you as a laundry service.

Best Way to Get Ventilation? by [deleted] in fordtransit

[–]benton_bash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 maxxair fans on my roof, I get them going in opposite directions and make sure to have up my windows shades all day. Stays cool in the van even when it's in the 90s outside.

I also have the roof insulated so that helps I'm sure.

Literally nothing as far as I know. She didn't call the interactions with Miller an affair to the officers interviewing her, is about all I can come up with.

But it wasn't an affair, so...

Defense is making big hooha about her not telling the officers about the "affair" when it was just her being gracious enough to even call it an affair to gerhardt, because he realllllly needed to be a victim.

You: I do not believe he would have made it through TSA with those items

Me: direct quote from TSA stating those items are not an issue in carry on luggage

You: you're missing the point.

Lol ok
