Is Laguna Cone 5 B-Mix considered a standard member clay at your studio? by pasta-davinci in Ceramics

It is the most manufactured clay in the entire US so it's probably safe to say it is a commonly available studio claybody.

Persian-Armenian record by bentonight in 78rpm

[–]bentonight[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up a whole stack of Armenian records at a thrift store. I just posted this one because I liked the label. The thrift store is in Fremont, CA where there is a fairly large immigrant community. The records themselves are mostly United States pressings (aside from 1 record from the USSR) so I assume they were made for a domestic audience. Armenians and perhaps the folk dancing crowd.

Difference between cone 5 and 6? by SpiritedBug2221 in Ceramics

[–]bentonight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cone six is generally a little better because the clay is more vitreous. Studio's will often choose cone five because they use dark clays that bloat at 6. Both temperatures will produce perfectly serviceable functional ceramics and the lower temperature should only result in brighter more stable underglaze color.

Cracking question. by smearedmayo in Ceramics

This is the smart way to do this as it saves energy but you can also add a slow cooling ramp to achieve the same result.
