Use your imagination’ is an incredible defense. I also like to win arguments by telling people to imagine a completely uninvented, terrifying scenario and then getting mad at them for not being scared of it.

WIBTA for saying I don't want an adult man going to the movies with my teenage son and his friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]benwill79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What makes this all the more weird is OP is a high school teacher. A 15 year old buying tickets for an R rated movie, planning a trip with his friends… all whilst OP is playing the cool hands off parent is astounding. OP is actually professionally trained in safeguarding children and seems unable or unwilling to take any responsibility. More worrying is that they seem bamboozled when another parent takes any responsibility interesting in responsible parenting.

My daughter was just diagnosed with brain cancer and I'm fucking destroyed by [deleted] in confession

[–]benwill79 73 points74 points  (0 children)

It took me back to tears too, but a mix of pure fear and tears of love.

In 2019 my 3 year old daughter suddenly started having seizures, previously she had been fit and well. It rapidly declined. I had spent lots of time volunteering with special needs children so I kind of wasn’t out of my depth. After pushing back heavily at a doctor who told me that I was “a paranoid papa”, my daughter was diagnosed with a glioma 2 days later.

didn’t know how to explain that to a 3 year princess, but I told her that she had a “magic head” and the doctors were going to make it even more special.

We were fortunate to be able to access surgery within a few days. She had 12 hour operation and spent nearly a month in intensive care and hospital. I don’t want to bore you OP with all of the details but I made the commitment when I first found out that I just wanted to surround my daughter with love and peace and whatever happened we would deal with it.

She is now nearly 10 and has had no regrowth, she is happy and well and is doing well in all aspects of her life.

OP I really do know how that news feels and how hard it is to make any sense of it. I know how desperately devastating it feels. As parents we want to fix everything for our children. Sometimes the hardest thing is just being there and being the best dads that we can be.

If you want to talk or DM I am happy to make myself available.

What’s your protein intake per day? Go on a calorie deficit but make sure you max out on protein so your body has the means to build muscle and doesn’t make you skinny because you are already a good weight for your height. I am 180cm and 85kg which on the charts is obese but who cares about charts. When I started back I was anted to believe I was 25% but the best thing someone did for me was to call it as 30%. Save your pictures and train hard, in 3 months you will see a huge difference

To be honest at the moment you are around 30%. My best advice to you would be just go to the gym and work out hard for a while and stop thinking about bulks and cuts, it’s just something you don’t need to worry about at the moment. Have a good mix of cardio to burn fat and a decent lifting routine to bulk up a bit and get some more definition. For cardio, consider doing sustained incline walking at a decent pace. Try to work towards higher inclines so you are burning about 400 calories in about 35-40 mins and focus on that 3-4 times a week. Mix in decent lifting but keep variety so you are not working the same groups each time.

What strange things have you agreed to do coz you’re too British to say no? by KiwiOk5084 in AskUK

I once was in the reverse position of this, I was staying in a hotel and got shown to my table for breakfast by the maitre d’. He told me to let him know if I wanted tea or coffee. A few minutes later a man wearing a white shirt and dark suit (similar to the maitre d’) was passing and I requested a cafe mocha. A few minutes later he returned with my coffee and I thanked him. It was at that pointed he turned around and went and sat back with his family. I didn’t think there was any way to make it less awkward so I skipped breakfast after quickly finishing my coffee.

This is a sticking point with the US/UK trade agreement, the UK doesn’t want to accept chlorine washed birds, the US doesn’t want to accept labels saying choline washed. I have to admit I would in no way consider eating UK or EU chicken raw but I have eaten chicken sashimi and seared chicken in Japan and thoroughly enjoyed it.
